<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
joint 3.

The present addition to main patent No. 520,834 of June 19, 1953 relates to a vertical cylinder die-casting machine, which presents, compared to the machine covered by Figure 1 of the main patent, new provisions and particular advantages) in particular the complete and rapid realization of the cleaning of the injection cylinder, the flow channels and the cavities
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
of the mold, as well as the ejection, all particularly difficult operations in the case of ferrous metals.
The machine designed in accordance with the present addition comprises a vertical injection cylinder, supplied directly with molten metal, passing through the upper part of the mold in two parts separated by a horizontal seal, and is characterized essentially in that said injection cylinder vertical open at both ends is formed by two elementary cylinders, namely an upper cylinder integral with the upper half of the mold, and a lower cylinder integral with the lower half of the mold; on the other hand, according to the invention, the two elementary cylinders are coaxial, of the same internal diameter, and communicate with the different mold cavities by radiating supply channels formed in the common seal between the cylinders and the mold.
On the other hand,. the cylinder in two parts constituted as has just been said, open at its two ends, receives two opposed pistons which can move along its axis, and which can exceed the joint plane of the half-molds, and the planes of their respective outer faces. These two pistons can be mounted or removed from their respective rods by an instant locking system.
To make it easier for those skilled in the art to understand the general economy of the invention, a preferred embodiment will be described, by way of nonlimiting example, with reference to the appended drawing in which:
FIG. 1 shows in section the closed mold, before injection, the liquid metal being introduced into the cylinder.
FIG. 2 shows the closed mold in section, the injection being completed.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
FIG. 3 shows in section the open mold at the stage of extraction of the solidified casting.
As can be seen in the drawing, the mold consists of two parts: an upper half-mold 1 and a lower half-mold 2, bearing contiguously one on the other, following a horizontal joint 3, - plane or not.
In the half-molds l. And 2 are formed imprints such as 24, distributed around the vertical axis of the mold and shown in section along an axial vertical plane.
In the half-mold 1 is embedded an injection cylinder 25, descending to the seal 3, and extended above the upper face of the half-mold 1; in the half-mold 2, is embedded another cylinder 26 starting from the parting line and limited or not to the underside of the half-mold 2. The two cylinders 25 and 26 are coaxial and of the same diameter.
A shutter piston 27 mounted on a rod 27 'can move in the cylinder 26 and up to the cylinder 25, and a piston 28 mounted on a rod 29 can move in the cylinder 25 and up to the cylinder 26. The pistons and the rods are assembled respectively by instant locking coupling devices.
The imprints 24 are connected to the injection cylinder 25 by pouring channels 31 radiating around the cylinder 25, these channels being cut into the'joint.3, so that the release of the solidified metal in them. ' imprints 24 and forming the parts 33, is secured integrally with that of the metal solidified in the channels 31, forming the weights 34, and a common base 35, the whole. forming a cluster.
In the position of FIG. 1 stage of pouring the molten metal, the piston 27 protrudes upwards from the plane of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
seal 3. The piston 28, connected to its rod 29, is released from the cylinder 25 and completely disengages the upper orifice, the piston 27 closes the orifices of the pouring channels 31; molten metal 32 is poured into cylinder 25.
In the position of FIG. 2, die-casting stage, the shutter piston 27 has been brought down, below the seal 3, the piston 28 is driven down into the cylinder 25 and forces the molten metal into the cavities 24 of the mold, to form parts 33.
In the position of FIG. 3, extraction stage, the cluster of castings is solidified, the two half-molds 1 and 2 are separated and spread. The piston 27 is raised upwards at the limit of its stroke, which causes the ejection of the parts 33 forming a cluster, with the weights 34 and the base 35 out of the lower half-mold 2. The piston 28 continued its movement. downward beyond the lower seal 3 of the upper half-mold 1 and caused the detachment and ejection of the base and the parts out of the upper half-mold 1.
Figure 3 shows the mold at this stage of operations.
The assembly continuing to open, the two pistons move apart and completely release the cluster of parts 33 until then pinched by means of the base 35 between the two pistons.
The return of the piston 28 to the position shown in Figure 1 is facilitated by the separation of the piston 28 and the rod 29, by the opening of their locking device.
