<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

This invention relates to improvements in the construction of cores for relays, contactors and the like, which have a movable armature under the effect of the electromagnetic action of the current flowing in windings arranged around the cores; and its purpose is to prevent said armature from vibrating each time it receives a command and also to avoid the noise which is the consequence thereof.
Silent devices are known for cores of the type indicated, consisting of a small ring of current-conducting material, which on one side finds its seat in a cavity of the core and on the opposite side is free, thus enveloping part of the surface of the core. which is located opposite the frame.
The use of these rings represented an advancement in
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
comparison of the current technique, but their effectiveness is rather limited in time because after a short period of operation they break and the device becomes noisy again; the broken ring further contributes to increase the noise.
This drawback is avoided by the construction according to the invention, according to which there is still a closed circuit in electrically conductive material, fulfilling the function of a "silent ring" or of a "phase shift ring", but said circuit is formed by a set of at least two rods (at least one of which is enclosed in a cavity of the core) interconnected electrically and mechanically retained by two small plates, also of conductive material placed outside the core and in contact with it, the 'one on one side, the other on the opposite side.
An efficient and robust construction is thus obtained, achievable with ease and of practically unlimited duration.
A preferred embodiment of the invention, given simply by way of example, is described below. In this description, reference is made to the appended drawing, in which: FIG. 1 represents a side view of a core made of magnetic material provided with the improvement according to the invention, FIG. 2 is a corresponding plan view and FIG. 3 is a section along A-A of fig.2.
In the drawing, there is shown the core of a contactor -Axing substantially the shape of an E, the extremities of which

1 and 2 have cavities 3 open to the outside, into which can be introduced the rods 4 of conductive material, which protrude beyond the thickness of the core to pass through two small plates 5 and 6 and are riveted to their ends forming a head 7.
In a variant, in each branch of the core, only one cavity is provided, capable of accommodating a rod 4, while the other is arranged outside the core, while being connected to the first in the way which has been described. upper.
According to another variant, the rods are three in number (or more), at least one of which is housed in a cavity 3.
The construction which has just been described, with rods which can be threaded separately into the corresponding cavity and connecting plates, is easily achievable and in addition it has the advantage that it does not require mechanical deformations of the sheet forming the core, which would adversely affect its magnetic properties.
The devices comprising the improvement according to the invention can operate for several years without breaking the circuit formed by the rods 4 and the plates.
