<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

It is known to manufacture by forging a pipe hanger at 1800 having, in the axis of symmetry of the hanger, a fitting or tubing, which constitutes a pipe-centered hanger.
To obtain such tube-centered bends, an eccentric bulb is first manufactured on a straight tube by compressing this tube in a die and the tube thus bulb is bent so as to obtain a bulb in the axis of the bend. , which bulb can then be opened to form a tubing. We can also take a
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
tube hanger with a large radius of curvature and compress this hanger between dies, so as to obtain, in the axis of the hanger, a bulb which is open at any stage of the compression to constitute the tubing.
Finally, the two above processes, which are accompanied by judicious heating of certain regions of the. part to be treated, can be combined.
The present invention relates to the manufacture of a hanger with offset tubing, that is to say in which the tubing, instead of being in the axis of symmetry of the hanger at 180, is offset, so that its axis approaches that of one of the rectilinear branches of the hanger.
The Applicant has found that it is unexpectedly possible to fabricate such off-center tubing elbows, by compressing an centered tubing elbow between asymmetric dies, in combination with asymmetric preliminary heating of the initial elbow.
The description that goes. the following, with reference to the accompanying drawings given by way of example, will make it easier to understand how the invention can be implemented.
The fig.l shows in section a hanger at 180, with centered tubing, from which we will form the hanger with offset tubing.
Fig. 2 shows in section the hanger of fig.l, arranged between two asymmetric dies.
Fig.3 is a view similar to Fig.2, after bringing the dies together.
Fig.4 is an end view of Fig.3, from the side of the tubing.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Fig. 5 shows the end of the elbow with offset tubing, after shaping of the tubing.
Fig. 6 is a section through VI-VI of fig.3.
As has been said, according to the present invention, we start with a hanger a, at 180, with tubing centered b, that is to say disposed in the axis of symmetry XX of the hanger. (fig.l).
In accordance with the. In the present invention, the arched region, hatched in fig.l, is heated, for example with cherry red, and half of this heated region which is located on the side where one wishes to obtain the off-center tubing, that is to say the squared region on the right of fig.l, on the side of the straight shank ± 2 of the hanger.
This being the case, the hanger is placed in a machine for compressing, parallel to one another, the rectilinear branches of the hanger, and formed by two dies which can be brought together by a translational movement between two plates d1 d2 (fig. 4). The matrix ± which is applied to the ± branch of the hanger (fig. 2 and 3) comprises a semi-cylindrical groove 'whose contour f is adapted to the final shape that 11' we want 'to obtain for the hanger, on the side of the straight branch ±.
On the contrary, the other die g, also comprising a semi-cylindrical gorge, and adapta.nt on the rectilinear branch c2 of the hanger, is at bottom h rectilinear, as seen in fig.2.
Between the rectilinear branches c1 c2, there is a spacer strip i intended to constitute the final stop when the two branches c1 c2 are brought together, and which comprises two half-grooves, i1 i2 (fig.6).
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
to fit the straight branches of the hanger. This strip i ends with an asymmetric contour k, which corresponds to the final curvature of the. internal region of the hanger that we want to obtain. The ruler ¯ is preferably floating during the operation of reconciling the dies ¯ ± and ± so that it can assume the desired position of itself during the reconciliation of the dies, depending on whether one or the other branch c1 c2 will be the first to come into contact with said strip i.
At the start of the compression operation, as seen in fig. 2, the matrix e comes to bear on the outer arched region where the tubing b begins, and located on the. left of the figure, while the rectilinear matrix a is applied to the rectilinear branch ± 2.dU hanger. The two dies and are then brought together in the direction of arrows A - fig.2 # and a compression of the hanger is obtained as shown in fig.3. During the approaching movement, the tubing b rises slightly on the left side of the figure, while, on the right side, the rectilinear branch c2 of the hanger is pressed against the strip i. The result is that the bent region of the tube b located on the right is deformed, and the metal of the tube b rises, as can be seen, at 1.
The tubing primer 1 thus obtained during compression is, as seen in fig. 4, offset with respect to the axis XX of the primitive bend, which projects in X on fig. 4, and said tubing 1 is found close to the axis of the. straight branch c2.
It is then sufficient, thanks to the quantity of metal available on the tubing blank 1, to flare and shape the section of said tubing, to obtain
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
finally sews it with an offset m tubing, of circular section, which can be seen at the end in fig.5. The diameter of the final tubing m can be markedly greater than the diameter of the rectilinear branches of the hanger.
By way of example, for an internal diameter of branches of 60mm., It is possible to obtain an internal diameter of tubing of 90mm.
It goes without saying that modifications of detail can be made to the embodiment of this invention without going beyond its scope. Thus, the rectilinear die, instead of presenting a bottom h parallel to the rectilinear branches c1c2 of the hanger, could have a bottom inclined on the axis of these branches, and start during compression by pressing on the arched region of the hanger, which would have the effect of accentuating the downward flattening movement of branch 02 of the hanger against slide i.
