Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

   <Desc / Clms Page number 1>

   The present invention relates to stackable boxes for fruits and vegetables obtained by folding cardboard or other similar material. These boxes must have a high resistance to crushing, in order to preserve their contents during the transport of the stacked boxes, and they must also fit together to form stable stacks.

   To this end, the boxes according to the invention comprise, to resist crushing, vertical battens at the corners and to ensure stability, flaps on two opposite sides, the flaps of a box fitting between two battens. and resting against the edges of two opposite sides of the underlying box to prevent lateral and longitudinal movement of the stacked boxes.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

   Preferably, the battens and flaps are attached to two opposite sides which are attached to the bottom of the boxes, to which the bottom are on the other hand adjoining the other two opposite sides, and the flaps take up the free edges of the bottom, while the battens verticals take up the sides adjoining the bottom. These sides are further folded into a horizontal flange facing towards the inside of the boxes and serving as a support for the upper box. The result is very stiff, lightweight boxes which can without damage withstand a load well in excess of that to which the lower boxes of a stack of boxes are normally exposed.

   The appended drawing shows by way of example one embodiment of the invention.

   Figure 1 is a perspective view of a box, and Figure 2 shows the detail of a corner before mounting a side attached to the part comprising the bottom of the box.

   The box, made for example of folded cardboard, optionally waxed to prevent the effect of humidity, comprises the bottom 1 with the sides 2 and 2 'adjoining, as well as the' opposite sides 3 and 3 'which are related to the part comprising the bottom 1 and are fixed thereto by stapling.

   The added sides 3 and 3 'are provided with four tabs which, judiciously folded, form one of the flap 4 taking up the free edge 5 of the bottom 1 folded downwards, two more vertical battens 6 taking up the sides 2 and 2 ', and the fourth the horizontal wing 7, arranged in a corner and connected by the ends of tabs 8 to sides 2 and 2'. The height of sides 2 and 2 'is reduced compared to that of sides 3 and 3' by a longitudinal fold 9 suitably stapled,

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 with the double aim of reinforcing these ribs and of providing these ventilation openings between superimposed boxes.

   In a stack of boxes, the battens 6 of each box support the weight of the boxes yes they are superimposed on it while the flaps 4 which fit between the boxes of a box are placed at the same time against the edges of the boxes. ribs 3 and 3 'of this last, so that an upper box, placed on the wings 7 of the lower box can not. himself. move laterally or longitudinally relative to each other.

   Of course, the invention is not limited to the embodiment which has been described and shown by way of example, and one would not depart from its scope by making modifications thereto.
