<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

.'The invention relates to the manufacture of plastic parts erenses provided with one or more cavitén opening on their outer surface and more particularly of tubular parts such as connection processes for plastic pipes.
Such parts have already been manufactured by injecting under pressure the material softened beforehand by raising the temperature in a firm mold provided with an internal core. However, this process has several drawbacks,
One leaves,
the temperature to which the plastics can be heated is quite limited, in fact too great a rise in temperature risks causing carbonization of the material which considerably alters its mechanical characteristics. In the case of a plastic material such as polyvinyl chloride
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
it is not possible to exceed 200 Ce Since the injection requires as plastic a material as possible, one is obliged to work in a range of temperatures very close to the carbonization temperature and such a production requires a very delicate temperature adjustment to achieve.
On the other hand, and despite the plasticity obtained by this temperature rise, the injection taking place through a small orifice, the pressure necessary for the manufacture of the parts is generally very high (several tons), this which requires a lot of breathing.
Various means have indeed been proposed for reducing the viscosity of the material such as the addition of a plasticizer, but this addition generally causes a modification and a reduction in the mechanical characteristics of the material.
Finally, during injection, the material enters the mold through a single orifice and generally separates into two layers which bypass the core to join together by welding after this bypassing. However, this weld zone always constitutes a zone of least resistance: it has been observed that plastics, in particular polyvinyl chlorides, weld poorly. This fact is observed experimentally when injection molded parts are subjected to an internal pressure test.
Usually the break occurs following a line that matches the weld area.
The subject of the invention is an improved method of manufacturing a crauae piece of plastic material containing at least one: cavity opening onto the outer surface of this piece, this method making it possible to edit all of them.

In the example shown in Figures 1 and 2, the intention is applied to the manufacture of a part P constituted by a sleeve such as that shown in Figure 3.
This sleeve comprises a cylindrical body 1 which is provided at each of its ends with an external flange 2 and which comprises a bore 3 in which
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
protrudes an internal flange 4.
The grinding wheel A is formed on two sides 5 and 5a assembled along a longitudinal diametral joint plane XX (FIG. 1) by any well known means not shown. This mold ccmpcrte a molding chamber 6 whose surface corresponds to the profile of the external surface of the part to be obtained.
Two cores B and C, guided by surfaces 7 and 6 provided at the two ends of the mold, can enter cavity 6 of the mold by axial translation., 0) The right-hand core B comprises a cylindrical portion 9 whose diameter corresponds to that of the cylindrical part of the bore 3 of the sleeve to be obtained and the length of which is such that it penetrates the mold up to the right of the transverse face (Fig. 3) on the right of the collar 4 of this sleeve .
1 / other core C also comprises a cylindrical bearing surface 10 extended by a bearing surface 11 of smaller diameter corresponding to the internal diameter of said flange 4. 'The lengths of the cylindrical bearing surfaces 10 and 11 of the core C correspond to the axial lengths of the other part of the bore 3 'of the sleeve and of its flange 4. Stops are provided on the mold at 12 and 13 and on the cores at 14 and 15 to limit the penetration of the two cores, so that at the end of travel d 'depression (Fig. 2) the two cores are in contact by their end cutters 16 and 17.
Das heating and cooling means, not shown, can be provided for the mold and the cores. the manufacture takes place in the following way
A compact mass M of plastic material of a volume corresponding exactly to that of the part P to be obtained, is first heated to be made plastic then
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
is introduced into the mold in its plastic state,
This mass can be constituted, for example, by a cylindrical end taken from a solid rod obtained by means of an extruding machine.
The mold A is then closed then the cores B and C Boni gradually inserted into the mold. When the cores come into contact with the plastic material M, they enter therein, thus forcing the fluorine material into the space remaining between the cores and the mold. When the cores have reached their end of travel, they are in contact by their end edges 16, 17 (Fig.2) and the material then fills exactly at P the volume left free between the mold and the cores. After cooling of the material, the cores are removed, the mold is opened and the part P unmolded.
As can be seen the manufacture of the part is obtained by penetration, in a compact mass M, of two cores which push back the material and force it to flow the Ions of these cores, section offered to the material to flow is in fact the section dull of the part and is considerably larger than the cross section of a usual injection orifice.
As a result, at equal plasticity, the force required to effect the deformation of the material in the process according to the invention is considerably smaller than in known injection machines. the applicant has observed that this effort is of the order of a few hundred kilos. the Applicant has also observed that it is not necessary, in order to apply the invention, to heat the material to a temperature as high as that necessary for the injection.
Thus, for a polyvinyl chloride having a limiting working temperature of
