EMI1.1
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

EMI1.1
In 3rd "" e 1 "rmÇals" N-0 1.055 # 071 of April 22, 1952, a low voltage, self-stabilized electronic fluorescent lighting lamp was described, essentially comprising an enclosure made of transparent material. 'Inside which has been produced a high vacuum and which contains a thermionic cathode and a. anode, and in which the kinetic energy acquired by the electrons under the effect of the potential difference applied between anode and cathode is transformed into luminous energy during the impact of these electrons on. a fluorescent coating placed on their path.
In order to partially neutralize the space charge in order to obtain a notable current without using prohibitive voltages, it was proposed, in the 1st addition
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
N 64.149 attached to the aforementioned patent on January 28, 1953, to add to the cathode an electronic lens made up of two or more grids brought to suitable potentials with respect to the cathode, these grids having substantially the same pitch and their elements being aligned so that they are in electronic shadow of each other.
In the 2nd addition? 65.301, attached January 16, 1954 to the same patent, various arrangements have been described which make it possible, with such a system of aligned grids, to obtain a practically uniform distribution of the electrons on the surface of the anode.
Moreover, in the French patent? 1,111,658 of September 21, 1954, it was planned to avoid the formation of a parasitic space charge after the acceleration of the electrons by replacing the electrostatic lens composed of aligned grids with an electromagnetic lens consisting of a a magnetic field whose lines of force at least partially coincide with the ideal paths desired for the electrons.
In the various embodiments which have just been recalled, the thermo-ionic cathode and the electronic lens which is attached to it constitute an electron gun which ensures correct projection of the electrons onto the conductive cable comprising, in the species, a cathodoluminescent coating,
However, it has been found, in accordance with the invention, that it is also possible to produce self-stabilized low-voltage electronic lighting lamps, having excellent light output, by using such an electron gun to project light. electrons on a target com-

bearing in a manner known per se,
a substance or a mixture of substances capable of emitting selective radiation by becoming incandescent upon impact of the electrons (substances of the type Aucr).
The main subject of the invention is therefore an electronic lighting lamp comprising an enclosure made of transparent material inside which a high vacuum has been created and which contains an anode and a thermionic cathode combined with an electronic lens. one of the types defined above, a target comprising one or more substances reacting by incandescence being arranged in the path of the electrons do so that the kinetic energy acquired by the electrons under the effect of the. potential difference applied between anode and cathode is transformed into luminous energy during the impact of electrons on this target.
The intention also includes the use, with the aim of partially neutralizing the space charge, both in the case of electronic lighting lamps.
EMI3.1
Such lamps comprising an incandescent target, such lamps comprising an incandescent target, electronic lenses of the known type called diaphragm lenses, either in place of the various types of electronic lenses previously described, or in combination with them.
In the realization of this characteristic of the invention, the shape of the diaphragms can be quclcon- quclcon-, for example track, or at least partially spherical, that, or even conform to the shape of certain potential equations necessary to obtain the result. desired, or
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
be at least partially a surface of revolution.
The orifice made in the diaphragms may. also be, as is known, of any shape, for example rectangular, circular; ring finger, etc ...
The shape of the cathode will preferably be adapted in each case to that of the diaphragms.
Various embodiments of electronic diaphragm lenses applied to the constitution of electronic fluorescent lighting lamps have been shown in the accompanying drawings by way of nonlimiting examples. In these drawings:
Fig. 1 to 5 are vertical axial sections of electronic fluorescent lighting lamps comprising such electronic diaphragm lenses
Fig.6 is a partial sectional view on a larger scale of an electronic fluorescent lighting lamp incorporating a preferred form of electronic diaphragm lens.
In the various examples shown, one lamp enclosure is constituted by a bulb 1 of transparent material (glass or similar) having a shape similar to that of a mushroom and whose base 1a may be provided with a socket (not shown) allowing it to be mounted in the manner of an incandescent lamp of the usual type.
The internal wall of the part of the bulb 1 adjacent to the base 1c is covered with a metallization 2 forming a conductive target or anode and on which is applied a fluorescent coating 3. The part of the bulb opposite the base is, in the various examples shown, devoid of any coating and thus forms a transparent window which leaves

pass freely the light radiation coming from the plaster
3 in the direction most favorable to the use of the lamp.
In the example of FIG. 1, the lamp comprises an indirectly heated cathode 4 consisting of a flat element or nickel or other suitable material, covered with emissive substances; this element, of circular shape for example, is arranged in the axis of the bulb , and secured on an insulating support 5, formed for example by a mica washer. The heating of this cathode is provided by a spiraled tungsten filament 6, covered with alumina or any other insulator, and placed under the flat cathode.
The diaphragm forming an electronic lens is here. titué by a flat element 7, circular in shape like the cathode, disposed at-plaques do the latter, parallel to it, and fixed on the insulating support 5; This diaphragm is pierced in its center with an opening 7 ±, 'circular for example, the diameter of which is of the same order of roar as the distance between the diaphragm and the cathode
4. Between the anode 2 and the diaphragm 7, is interposed a metal rcssort 8 intended to ensure an electrical contact between these two elements and, consequently, to put the diaphragm to the potential of the anode.
In the example of FIG. 2, where the same reference numerals denote the same elements as in FIG. 1, the cathode 4 is constituted by a flat ring arranged in the axis of the bulb 1, and the diaphragm 7 also has the shape of a flat ring coaxial with the cathode and provided with an annular opening 7a whose width radio- - le is of the same order of magnitude as the distance separating
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
the diaphragm of the cathode.
In Fig. 3, the cathode 4 and the diaphragm 7 have the form of spherical caps arranged in the axis of the bulb 1 and the concavity of which is directed towards the top of the latter. We see in 7a the practical orifice in the center of the diaphragm 7
FIG. 4 represents an embodiment derived from that of FIG. 3 and in which the cathode 4 .. and the diaphragm 7 have the shape of annular surfaces of revolution, the generatrices of which are formed by arcs of circles.
Fig. 5 shows a variant in which the cathode 4 is constituted by an element in the form of a circular bowl having a flat bottom and a largely flared truncated edge. The diaphragm is here composed of two elements, namely an annular element 7 'arranged around the cathode 4, electrically connected to the latter and therefore to the same potential as it, and an element 7 "in the form of a spherical cap, placed above the cathode and carried by the spring 8 to the same potential as the node 2. The diaphragm 7 "is pierced in its center with an opening 7" a .. This arrangement makes it possible to achieve equipotential surfaces favorable to the creation of a rectilinear electron beam as is known in the field of electronic optics.
Fig. 6 shows on a larger scale an embodiment derived from FIG. 5, in which the cathode 4 and the diaphragms 7 'and 7 ", brought respectively to the potentials of the cathode and of the anode, have in vertical section shapes similar to those shown
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
in Fig. 5, but are arranged annu7lairly.
Of course, and as indicated above, arrangements equivalent to those which have just been described could, without departing from the scope of the invention, be applied to the constitution of electronic lighting lamps comprising an incandescent target instead of a cathodo-lumincsccntc target.
On the other hand, in all cases, the electronic diaphragm lenses shown and described could, also without departing from the scope of the invention, be combined with the lenses of the different types described in the French patent? 1,055,071 and its additions and in French patent N 1,111,658 of September 21, 1954.
