Electronic lighting lamp In Swiss patent N 308680 a self-stabilized, low-voltage electronic fluorescent lighting lamp has been described, comprising essentially an enclosure made of transparent material inside which a high vacuum has been produced and which contains a thermionic cathode and an anode, and in which the kinetic energy acquired by the electrons under the effect of the potential difference applied between anode and cathode is transformed into luminous energy during the impact of these electrons on a fluorescent coating placed on their journey.
To partially neutralize the space charge in order to obtain a significant current without using prohibitive voltages, it has been proposed, in the aforementioned Swiss patent, to add to the cathode an electronic lens made up of two grids placed at suitable potentials with respect to the cathode, these grids having substantially the same pitch and their elements being aligned so as to lie in the electronic shadow of each other. In the additional Swiss patent N 331130, various arrangements have been described which allow; with such a system of aligned grids, to obtain a practically uniform distribution of the electrons on the surface of the anode.
Furthermore, provision has been made to avoid the formation of a parasitic space charge after the acceleration of the electrons by replacing the electro static lens composed of aligned grids with an electromagnetic lens consisting of a magnetic field whose lines of force coincide at least partially with the desired ideal trajectories for the electrons.
In the various embodiments which have just been recalled, the thermionic cathode and the electronic lens which is attached to it constitute an electron gun which ensures correct projection of the electrons on the conductive target comprising, in this case, a cathode-luminescent coating .
Now, it has been found that it is also possible to produce self-stabilized low voltage electronic lighting lamps, having an excellent light output, by using an electron gun consisting of a substantially flat annular thermionic cathode associated with an electronic lens. diaphragm type tronic which is specially arranged to ensure correct projection of electrons on the conductive target provided in the lamp.
The subject of the invention is therefore an electronic lighting lamp comprising an enclosure made of transparent material inside which a high vacuum has been produced and which contains a thermionic cathode. an anode and a target arranged in the path of the electrons and which comprises at least one substance capable of transforming the kinetic energy acquired by the electrons into light energy under the effect of the potential difference applied between anode and cathode, characterized in that, in order to partially neutralize the space charge,
there is added to the cathode established in annular form an electronic lens comprising an annular diaphragm disposed substantially parallel to the cathode and coaxially with the latter, the annular surface of this diaphragm being seen as an annular opening, the radial width of which is substantially equal to the distance separating the diaphragm from the cathode.
The electronic diaphragm lens of the particular constitution defined above can be implemented either as a replacement for the various known electronic lenses mentioned above, or in association with them, with a view to partially neutralizing the space charge. in electronic lighting lamps comprising both a cathode-luminescent target and an incandescent target.
There is shown in the accompanying drawing, by way of non-limiting examples, various embodiments of electronic lighting lamps comprising electronic diaphragm lenses. In this drawing Les fia. 1 and 2 are vertical axial sections of two embodiments of electronic fluorescent lighting lamps; fig. 3 is a partial sectional view, on a larger scale, of another embodiment of an electronic fluorescent lighting lamp comprising a preferred form of an electronic diaphragm lens.
In the various embodiments shown, the enclosure of the lamp is constituted by a bulb 1 of transparent material (glass or similar) having a shape similar to that of a mushroom and with which the base 1 a can be provided. a socket (not shown) allowing it to be mounted in the manner of an incandescent lamp of the usual type. The internal wall of the part of the bulb 1 adjacent to the base I a is covered with a metallization 2 forming a conductive target or anode and on which is applied a fluorescent coating 3.
In the various embodiments shown, the part of the bulb opposite the base 1a is devoid of any coating and thus forms a transparent window which allows the light radiation from the coating 3 to pass freely in the most direction. favorable to the use of the lamp.
In the embodiment of FIG. 1, the lamp comprises an indirectly heated cathode 4 consisting of a flat ring made of nickel or other suitable material, covered with emissive substances; this ring is arranged in the axis of the bulb and secured to an insulating support 5, formed for example by a mica washer. The heating of this cathode is provided by a tungsten filament 6 wound in a spiral, covered with alumina or any other insulator, and placed under the flat cathode. The diaphragm forming an electronic lens is here formed by a flat ring 7 coaxial with the cathode and provided with an annular opening 7a, the radial width of which is of the same order of magnitude as the distance separating the diaphragm from the cathode.
Between the anode 2 and the diaphragm 7 is interposed a metal spring 8 intended to ensure electrical contact between these two elements and, consequently, to bring the diaphragm to the potential of the anode.
In fig. 2, the cathode 4 and the diaphragm 7 have the shape of annular surfaces of revolution arranged in the axis of the bulb 1, the generatrices of which are formed by arcs of circles, and the concavity of which is directed towards the apex of the bulb. The annular opening formed in the diaphragm is designated by 7a.
The fi-. 3 shows a variant in which the cathode 4 is formed by an element in the form of an annular cup comprising a flat bottom and largely flared tapered edges. The diaphragm is here composed of two elements, as it sees: an annular element 7 'arranged around the cathode 4, electrically connected to the latter and therefore to the same potential as it, and an annular element 7 "in shape of a concave torus segment, placed above the cathode and carried by the spring 8 at the same potential as the anode 2. The diaphragm 7 "is pierced with an annular opening 7" a, the radial width of which is substantially equal to the distance separating the diaphragm from the cathode.
This arrangement makes it possible to produce equipotential surfaces favorable to the creation of a rectilinear beam of electrons as is known in the field of electronic optics.
As indicated above, provisions equivalent to those which have just been described could be applied to the constitution of electronic lighting lamps comprising an incandescent target instead of a cathode-light target. . On the other hand, in all cases, the electronic diaphragm lenses shown and described could be combined with the lenses of the different types described in Swiss Patent No. 308680 and in Additional Swiss Patent No. 331130.
