<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

<Desc / Clms Page number 1>
The present patent relates to a speed variator between two motor and receiver shafts or vice versa, comprising a pulley made up of two conical plates between which moves in the rotary direction and in the radial direction a drive or receiver V-belt as a function of the torques. motor and resistant, characterized in that the hubs of the two oonic plates are provided with a bore in which the motor or receiver shaft can rotate which can move parallel, but without rotation, one with respect to the 'other,
thanks to the intervention of an appropriate device for this purpose and are driven together in the rotary direction by the presence on the end of the motor or receiver shaft of drive members intended to come into contact at a location on the face of 'a cutout or notch of appropriate shape depending on the ratio to be made between the torque 4 to be transmitted and the lateral force to be obtained for the adhesion of the belt, made in the thickness of the wall of the hub of each of the two plates , while the longitudinal movements of the two plates towards each other are controlled by the presence of light compression springs',
flange surrounding each hub and taking cont @@ t by their ends on the considered hub and on
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
an annular plate secured to the device for rotating the hubs of the plates.
Thus, according to the description above, the two conical plates must necessarily move away simultaneously because the drive members fixed on the shaft must be applied to the sides or internal surfaces of the cutouts or notches of the hubs. conical plates and that they cannot rotate with respect to each other. There is therefore no misalignment of the belt.
The initial force which presses the two plates against the belt when there is no torque transmission is very low and prevents the belt from crushing on its sides, At any position of the conical plates (therefore for all speeds ) the lateral forces of the plates on the blanks of the belt are proportional to the value of the torque to be transmitted, which creates a grip such that slipping is avoided and the belt is not tired on the blanks, only when there is torque transmission. Because a force proportional to the torque to be transmitted is automatically established, the plates tend to close.
They first achieve better grip, tend to increase the speed which compensates for the slipping of the belt on the receiving pulley due to the increase in the power to be transmitted. The belt is therefore tensioned automatically and avoids slack which can whip.
It goes without saying that the essentially motor shaft as well as the essentially receiving shaft can each be provided with a speed variator comprising a pulley - conditioned as described above.
In order to bring out the above description more clearly, the appended schematic drawings are provided for explanatory and non-limiting purposes of one embodiment of the subject of the invention and represent:
Fig. 1, an elevational view of the variable speed drive with partial section through the flanges of the conical plates forming the pulley,
FIG. 2, an elevational view of a longitudinal part of the shaft and of the two longitudinal shims arranged on the periphery
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
of the shaft symmetrically in opposition to the liaji- tudinal axis of the motor or receiver shaft.
Referring to Fig.1, the pulley consists of two conical plates 1 and 2 provided with their hub 5 respectively 6 in the bore of which can turn the shaft 3 motor or receiver.
In the example, the shaft 3 is assumed to be the end of the shaft of a motor or of a transmission shaft, but it can be constituted by a simple sleeve which is wedged or fixed by means of use on the motor shaft or the receiver itself. The speed variator then constitutes an overall element equivalent to an ordinary pulley, which can be mounted or removed from the shaft like an ordinary pulley. The hubs 5 and 6 are each provided according to their bore with two diametrically opposed grooves 4 and arranged in the extension of one another, so as to be able to engage in the wedges 19 arranged for this purpose and n ' having no contact with the motor shaft or re-switch 3.
In the plane of symmetry established along X - y, see Fig. 2, the soft wedges 19 are provided with a notch 21 in which is engaged the outer oroonferential periphery of an elastic ring 20 of circular shape oonstituted by a bent steel wire, the inner circumferential periphery of which is housed in the outer groove 21 made on the outer periphery of the motor or receiver shaft 3 in the X - Y plane of symmetry envisaged.
Thus, this ring 20 prevents the longitudinal displacements of the wedges 19 with respect to the x - y plane of symmetry. On the ends of the wedges 19 are fixed by means of screws 23 the annular discs 17 and 18 independent of the shaft. 3.
Very damaged coil compression springs, such as 11 and 13, are engaged on either side of the X - Y plane of symmetry between the conical plates 1 and 2 and the annular discs 17 and 18 carried by the extractors. wedges 19. these springs 11 and 12 are supported by their ends directed towards the plane of symmetry X - y on the shoulders 13 of the hub 5 of the conical plate 1 and 14 of the hub
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
6 of the conical plate a and by their opposite ends in the shoulders 15 respectively 16 of the annular discs 17 respectively 18.
On the shaft 3 are fixed in a radial direction, the drive members constituted in the example by pins 9 respectively 10 on which can rotate rollers 9a respectively loa, which when the shaft 3 turns come into contact with the shaft 3. the radial or plane surfaces of the cutouts 7 respectively 8,
in places indicated by the arrows at contact points varying according to the value of the engine torque compared to the resistive torque which automatically brings the oonic plates 1 and 2 closer together or apart from each other by sliding on the wedges 19 and thus the belt 24 will occupy between the conical plates 1 and a corresponding position where the lateral forces of the plates on the sides of the belt 24 are proportional to the value of the torque to be transmitted or received, which brings about a grip of the belt 24 preventing slipping. In this way, the work required of the '34 belt is not felt until there is torque transmission.
The parts 7a respectively 8a of the cutouts 7 respectively 8 are used by the drive members 9 respectively 10 for a direction of rotation, while the parts 7b and 8b are used for a movement in the opposite direction of the shaft 3.
The drive members 9 respectively 10 may be in any number corresponding to the number of cutouts 7 respectively 8 and be made in any kind of suitable shape, even in the form of a fixed cam which may be adjustable in the rotary direction,
The operation is easily understood by the description above with this remark, that automatically the position of the belt between the conical plates is brought oonsequently in an imposed manner according to the torque in play to be transmitted or received which will ensure operation. flawless without abnormal wear, in particular to the V-belt.

It goes without saying that several variable speed drives as envisioned above can be arranged parallel to one another on the same shaft 3 when great forces are to be transmitted.
In summary, it should be considered as coming within the scope of the present patent, a variable speed drive, characterized by the following.
