<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

The present invention relates to an improved construction of electric capacitors.
EMI1.1
One saique certajna, devices, such as small electric motors, some transformers or autotransformers, are functionally associated with a fixed capacitor. Hitherto, an independent capacitor has been used, which is attached, in any suitable manner, to the cooperating apparatus. It was therefore necessary to provide a fixing device and the corresponding wiring for the electrical connections.
The present invention makes it possible to do away with the latter two elements, by providing an improved construction of the capacitor, which enables the latter to form an integral part of the apparatus with which it is associated.
EMI1.2
cie>, functionally.
This produces simplicity of manufacture which lowers the cost price, and a reduction in size and cabling. In addition, the aesthetics of the engine are improved.
The invention will moreover be clearly understood by referring to the following description and to the drawing which accompanies it by way of non-limiting example and in which ": FIG. 1 represents the electrical diagram of a motor with permanent condenser.
- Figure 2 shows a sectional view of such a motor equipped with a capacitor, according to the invention.
- Figure 3 shows a variant of Figure 2.
- Figure 4 shows the cover of the capacitor equipping the motor of Figure 2, before bending.
- Figures 5a and 5b show the elements of the sealed capacitor equipping the motor of Figure 3 before bending.
FIG. 6 represents a perspective view, partially cut away, of the assembly shown in FIG. 3.
FIG. 7 represents the application of the invention to transformers or auto-transformers.
The invention will be described in detail with regard to a particular application to small electric motors, but it is understood that it can be applied to any other electrical device associated with a fixed capacitor.
In small electric motors and, in particular, in those of fractional power used in particular in household appliances (1/6 hp. For example), a fixed capacitor is used, operating at a single voltage, and permanently inserted . FIG. 1 shows the electrical diagram of such a motor, of the single-phase induction type, with a capacitor C connected in series with one of the two windings P1 and P2, so as to create the desired phase shift. For a 1/6 hp motor, this capacitor may have, for example, a capacity of 10 microfarads.
According to the invention, instead of using a separate capacitor from the paper, the cost of which is high, the insulating and conductive tapes which constitute the capacitor are wound around the frame of the motor, preferably. , before winding in the stator slots.
Figure 2 shows such a construction.
The rotor is shown diagrammatically at 1, at 2 the stator,
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
in 3 the stator winding, in 4 the motor casing, in 5 the insulating and conductive layers alternated and wound around the casing 4 and constituting the capacitor C. Its electrical insulation from the casing will be achieved by means of several turns, 6, insulation paper for example.
The capacitor is covered by a cover 7 (fig. 2 and 4) carrying terminals (not shown) for the passage of the output conductors. This cover is advantageously produced in the form of a sheet steel profile, which is bent around 'the carcass 4, to which it is fixed by any suitable means: welding, riveting, gluing, etc. two holes 8, for the terminals, not shown
This construction is particularly suitable for dry type capacitors
If it is preferred to use an oil bath condenser (fig. 3), the condenser C will be placed in a box 9.
This box can be made up of two parts: one, 10 (fig.
5a), formed by a section of a material easy to bend and weld to the frame 4. It has two holes 8 for the terminals and an opening 11 for the oil filling.
The other, 12 (fig. 5b), which serves as a cover for the socket 10; it is also in a material easy to bend and to weld to part 10 by its raised edges, as seen in figure 30
The assembly is done as follows
Part 10 (FIG. 5a) is wound around the carcass 4, the sealed terminals (not shown) are welded onto this wound part 10; The capacitor is then wound up in the bottom of this part 10 — and the reinforcements thereof are connected to said terminals. Next, part 12 is bent (fig. 5b) so as to weld the raised edges to the outer edges of part 10 (figo 3). The oil is then filled in the housing 9 thus obtained, through the opening 11. The latter could also be made in the part 12, forming a cover.
FIG. 6 shows schematically, part in section, the motor thus obtained, after bending of the two parts 10 and 12 constituting the housing 9, where the coiled capacitor and the filling oil are located.
The methods of construction and assembly indicated above are of course given purely as an indication, and are susceptible to variations and modifications which would come within the scope of the present invention.
It is thus, for example, that there is schematically represented, in FIG. 7, a transformer whose magnetic core 13 is surrounded by a capacitor C arranged as described above, in connection with the carcass 4.
