Comme exemples de l'invention, des rouleaux morts ou fous associés à un rouleau de support, conformes à l'invention, et propres à supporter la courroie transporteuse d'un transporteur à courroie, sont décrits ciaprès plus en détail en référence aux dessins annexés, dont : Fig.l est une élévation de face, partie en coupe, du rouleau selon une réalisation;
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
celle-ci.

The invention relates to support rollers for conveyors, and relates in particular, but not exclusively, to support rollers commonly referred to as idle or dead rollers intended to support the flexible surfaces carrying the load, of a conveyor such as a conveyor. belt conveyor.
An object of the invention is to provide an improved media roll which is more efficient and; more economical to use than existing rollers.
According to the present invention, a support roll for the flexible load-carrying surface of a conveyor consists of at least two flexible tubular parts, coupled together to form a single roll, the coupling or each coupling. being arranged to accommodate the bending of the single roll and thereby reduce the bending of either part.
The coupling or each coupling can be a universal coupling, and when two flexible parts are used and are coupled together by a universal joint, a short auxiliary roller can be provided in parallel with said flexible parts and arranged in close proximity. of the universal coupling, so as to support the middle of the belt and, thus free the flexible parts at the place of their coupling by the universal joint, from all or part of the stresses generated by the moving belt.
In a particular embodiment of the invention, suitable for a belt conveyor, two flexible parts are used and are interconnected by means of a universal joint. Alternatively, the ends of shafts projecting from said parts can be connected together by a roller, in which the shafts are mounted on bearings, and in this case the roller will support the belt in its middle. A support roll according to the invention can be secured between fixed or pivoting consoles.
As examples of the invention, dead or idle rollers associated with a support roller, in accordance with the invention, and suitable for supporting the conveyor belt of a belt conveyor, are described below in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings. , of which: Fig.l is a front elevation, partly in section, of the roller according to one embodiment;
Fig.2 is a plan view of the base of the embodiment of fig.l; and, Fif.3 is a side elevation, partly in section, of the central part of a second embodiment.
The support roll consists of two equal lengths, 1,2, of flexible tube such as for example a rubber tube. Each length of tube comprises a bearing or cushion enclosed in a housing or housing (not shown) mounted at one end, while the other end is closed by a solid plug 3 inserted into the tube and fixed therein, for example by ligature. or tightening. Elements 4,5 project from the plugs which, together with an element or coupling link, form a universal joint.
The roller is supported between two consoles 7,8, arranged one on each side of the conveyor belt, and attached to the roller by connecting members 9 mounted in bearings or bearings contained in the housings or boxes referred to above. . The consoles can be fixed or pivotally mounted, a particular mode of pivoting being shown in Figure 1. The consoles are pivotally mounted between arms 10 bolted to a base plate 11 at each end of the console.

this one. The lower ends of the consoles pass, as shown in figure 1, through openings 12 of the base plate, and are interconnected by a linkage shown in detail in figure 2.
At the lower ends of the consoles are coupled connecting rods 13 interconnected by a transverse arm 14 pivotally articulated on the underside of the base plate II. The purpose of the linkage is to equalize the movements of the consoles so as to center the load on the conveyor belt supported by the roller.
In use a conveyor belt (shown by the dotted line 15), instead of being supported by a single length of tube extending over the entire width of the conveyor belt, is supported by the two tubes 1,2, united to their internal ends, in the middle of the conveyor belt by a universal coupling, and consequently the stress or tension, which is normally generated in the middle of the roller when the latter is made of a single length of tube, is avoided.
The flexible tubes may warp or flex to match the profile or contour of the belt when loaded, but the elastic curvature or curvature of the flexible parts is very small because they are in contact with portions of the belt whose curvature is not important under operating conditions. As a result, the bending of a support roll according to the invention is reduced compared to known support rollers.
Fig. 1 of the drawings also shows a short auxiliary roller 16, mounted to rotate between supports 17 and 18 attached to the base plate 11. The auxiliary roller 16 is disposed in the immediate vicinity of the universal joint mounted between the flexible parts 1, 2. ,, and its height above the plate It is such that it supports the middle of the conveyor belt 15. Thus the auxiliary roller releases both the flexible parts 1, 2, and the universal joint from part of the constraints imposed on them. by the belt 15 during the operation of the conveyor.
The embodiment shown in FIG. 3 comprises tubular flexible parts 19 and 20 similar to the flexible parts 1,2, of the embodiment of FIGS. 1 and 2. The internal ends of the parts 19 and 20 terminate in plugs 21 and 22 which are analogous to -caps 3 of the embodiment of Figures 1 and 2. -The plugs 21 and 22 are coupled using universal joints 23 and 24 to the ends of a shaft 25 of a tubular steel roll 26. The shaft 25 is rotatably mounted in ball bearings 27 housed in supports 28 and 29 fixed to the base of the assembled roller. Roller 26 supports the central or middle portion of a conveyor belt 30 and acts in a manner analogous to that of auxiliary roll 16.
It should be noted that modes of supporting the roll other than those described could be employed.
