<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

A mitten is already known which covers only part of the thumb and part of the fingers, while the uncovered fingers can, if desired, be covered by a cap which is attached to the mitten near the connection between the palm. of the hand and fingers.
When the cap is engaged on the fingers, the end of an extended tongue of this cap is fixed around the mitten. The fingers can be released by folding or inverting the cuff, while the cuff tongue is then secured around the other side of the mitt, thus retaining the inverted cuff.
Compared to the mitten and mitten combination, this known manufacture has various drawbacks. The end of the thumb always remains unprotected, so that even when the cap is engaged on the fingers, the assembly does not yet form a real mitten. The extended tongue is a nuisance on the flat of the hand and can lead to accidental snags.
Mittens are also known having a slit through which the fingers and thumb can be passed, so as to release them when the front part of the mitten is turned over. In order to prevent the mitten from slipping, a few straps or loops are provided which pass, for example, around the index finger and the little finger, or the thumb and all the fingers, and thus retain the mitten. A large part of the hand and the thumb are exposed when the anterior part is turned over.
According to the invention, the folding part forms, together with a part of the mitten, a complete mitten, provided with a thumb piece which can also be folded down, such that the upper part of the mitten, which covers the wrist and the back or upper surface of the hand, continues with the front part of the mitten and the covering of the thumb, while the part of the mitten, which connects to the wrist and covers the palm of the hand, enters this mitten and is covered partly by the palm of the mitten.
There are various possibilities to allow the mitt part to be removed from the mitten. It is possible, for example, to stop the palm of the mitten at the level of the connection between the thumb and the hand and to arrange the free edge of this part of the mitten transversely by hand. Preferably, there is then provided, near the wrist, a flange under which one can engage the folded part of the mitten and possibly the thumb piece. When the mitten part is folded down, the thumb piece can also be engaged under the folded-down part of the mitten, which is then engaged under the loop.
It is also possible to provide, in the palm of the mitten, an opening through which the mitten can be pulled outwards, while the front part of the mitten and the thumb piece can then be folded down. In the latter case, it may be advisable to give a double execution to the wrist piece and the upper piece of the mitten and the mitten. One can then bring the mitten part with the thumb piece into the space between the upper part of the mitten hand and the mitten, and possibly the double wrist piece.
By application of the invention, an article is obtained which, when used as a mitten, hardly differs from a normal mitten. The back of the mitten looks normal, while there is simply a slit or opening in the palm of the mitten. If desired, the thumb can be covered by the thumb piece of the mitten, but the thumb piece itself can also be folded back, as noted above, so that the tips of the fingers, as well as the end of the thumb, remain free. The user is in no way bothered by the front part of the mitten, which has been folded down and engaged under the flange. In the fold-down position
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
kills and engaged under the bridle. In the folded down position, we have a full mitt.
To knit a mitten and mitten combination according to the invention, the wrist and the front part of the mitten and the mitten can be knitted in one piece and, for another part, the knitting can be done in such a way that both the mitten part and the mitten part.
Other features of the invention will emerge from the description which will be given below with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figures 1 and 2 show two embodiments of the mitten and mitten combination according to the invention, seen from the palm side,
Figure 3 shows the execution according to Fig. 1 when the front part of the mitten has been folded down,
FIG. 4 shows the execution according to FIG. 2, in a position corresponding to that of FIG. 3, and -
FIG. 5 shows the execution according to FIG. 2 torque the front part of the mitten has been folded backwards in the double edge, respectively the double part of the mitten and mitten combination.
In fig. 1, which shows a plan view of the mitten 1 with cuff 2, it has been shown in dotted lines, for clarity of the drawing, how the mitten 3 is arranged inside the mitten. This mitt has 4 separate pieces for the fingers and a separate 5 piece for the thumb. This 5-inch-n-piece of the mitten is covered by the flip-up thumb piece 6. While the back or upper part of the mitten extends continuously from the wrist up to the toe, this part of the mitten stops along line 7 in the palm, which line begins at the joint between the thumb and hand and then extends transversely to the mitten. Similarly, the mitten portion is shown in dotted lines in FIG. 2.
In this case, a part is removed from the palm of the mitten, this part being indicated by line 8. Cuff 2 and part 9, which extends to the fold-down thumb piece, are duplicated. This means that the handle forms a continuous part of the inner mitten and is folded back to form the palm of the mitten.
In fig. 3, the front part of the mitten, with the thumb piece, is folded down, so that this figure shows the other side of the mitten and mitten combination.
The finger pieces 4 and the thumb piece 5 of the mitten are then visible, while the line 7 delimiting the mitten is placed on the upper face of the mitten and mitten combination. The folded upper part is engaged under the flange 10 which extends transversely to the mitten, near the wrist. In the illustrated case, the thumb niece of the mitten is also folded down and released from the 5 inch piece of the mitten. This thumb piece of the mitten is shown in dotted lines at 12 and is folded under the folded down portion 11 of the mitten. However, it is not necessary that the thumb piece 6 also be removed from the thumb when the part 11 of the mitten is folded down. This can be very important when it is only necessary to use a few fingers.
Fig. 4 shows an intermediate position of the mitten and mitten combination according to FIG. 2. The front part 14 of the mitten is folded down in a manner similar to that shown in FIG. 3, but for clarity of the drawing it is shown in a slightly oblique position. The part of the boundary line, which is denoted by 13 in Fig. 2, is now visible in FIG. 4 and the folded-down part of the mitten extends from this line to the tip of the mitten part. The 6 inch piece is also folded back and is visible in the drawing. In the
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
practical, the folded part of the mitten is folded, together with the thumb piece, in the double executed wrist. This position is shown in Fig.
5. For this purpose, the thumb piece 6 is first folded inwards and the folded-down part of the mitten is also folded double, so as to obtain a delimitation line 15. In this case, only the material of the mitt. the mitten is in the palm of the hand '
Like the other manufactures, the combination of mitten and mitt according to the invention can be made from any material.
The palm of the hand can optionally be provided with a leather lining.
