L'invention sera expliquée à l'appel des dessins annexés, dont la figure 1 représente le circuit des tubes compteurs; la figure 2 donne le principe du dispositif compteur;

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

The subject of the invention is an electronic counter device which, with a number of coupler tubes of n has a number of states of S, in which p tubes are simultaneously conducting, the other n-p being non-conducting. The number of states that the device can take in this way is n '. at the maximum, being the number of combinations of p or p '. (n-p) '. of n-p in n elementso In this regard, the device of the invention differs from known devices in that p and n-p are both greater than unity. In the well-known decadic counting devices where in each of the ten states one of ten tubes is conductive one tube per state is required. According to the invention, however, the number of states per tube is greater.
Thus for a decimal counter device five tubes are sufficient, of which either two or three are conductors at the same time.
For the two complementary cases the maximum number of states is 5 = 10.
2 '. 3 '.
The load required per tube for locking non-conducting tubes (or in a reciprocal circuit: conducting tubes) is therefore less.
The device according to the invention is further distinguished from the binary counter device (including the main element of such a device, the rocker circuit) in that a binary counter device having 2n tubes has a maximum number of states of. 2n; in a device with n simultaneously conductive tubes in a total of 2 n tubes, this number being 2n '.
'@' In addition, in the device according to the invention, it is easy to make this device * cycle through the states in an arbitrarily predetermined order of succession, or a number smaller than the maximum number of states while in the device counter based on the binary system this can only be achieved by special means, or even by additional tubes. By way of example we can compare the device with 4 tubes which therefore has 22 = 4 states with the device according to the invention where. out of a total of 4 tubes 2 tubes are conductive, which allows 0 = 6 states or an arbitrarily chosen number of states less than 2 '2'. to this number, without the need in the device of additional or special means for this purpose.
A binary based counter device as mentioned above for seven states is known from Dutch patent No. 7507370.
Other known counting devices use two connected tubes as a multivibrator. By way of example we can cite a 5-state counter device, which therefore comprises 10 tubes which can be divided into five pairs cyclically connected in such a way that of each pair, one tube operates for 4, the other during 1 of the period in which the device cycles through all five states. This is achieved by connecting between the plate of one tube of one pair and the grid of the other of differently sized capacitor-resistor combinations.
The transition of a multivibrator from 1/5 period to to brings by a coupling the transition in the opposite direction of the cyclically following multivibrator, etc. These counting devices work loosely in the frequency for which they have been designed; the control frequency must not vary too much o The device according to the invention, on the contrary, can be controlled in a very wide frequency band in each state it is locked in an absolutely stable manner o
The invention will be explained on the basis of the accompanying drawings, in which FIG. 1 represents the circuit of the meter tubes; FIG. 2 gives the principle of the counter device;

The terminal of the gate is designated by G, that of the anode reduced by Ao It should be noted that the potentiometers can also be omitted, the anode being connected directly to the terminal A then. It is then, however, necessary that all the gates be connected by separate resistors to the negative voltage source It is a disadvantage of this method that the rectifiers must have a higher blocking voltage then, thus allowing little to pass. reverse current, which makes the construction more expensive.
FIG. 2 gives in general the block diagram of a n-uple counter device according to the invention, in which p tubes are simultaneously conductive. Some of the counter tubes 1 through n are shown as squares, with the terminals having the same designations as in Figure 1. Tube 0 serves as the switching tube.
The anode of this tube is also connected by a potentiometer

reduction to terminal Ao, to which is connected the so-called switching conductor with the same designation.
For convenience, the conductors of the grids (G1 to Gn) are extended to the right of the figure, as well as the reduced anodes (A 1 to F ln), and the anodes viewed (VA 1 to VAn), which are connected

by reta; networks: dat # 'l I'RJRJ.-Cl to Ra-Ca in reduced modes.
All the cathodes Ko to Kn (therefore including that of the switching tube) are connected by resistor Rd and the decoupling capacitor Cb to the negative voltage source in order to obtain grid voltage

EMI2.5
p rectifiers (Sn + 3 â Sn + p + 2) with reduced p anodes A different from counter tubes o Thus a locking element corresponds to the state of the counter device in which the p tubes thus connected are conducting.
In this state only the lower connection point of said conductor is negative. In all other cases there is at least one rectifier to which a positive voltage is applied, as a result of which said connection point remains positive. The conductor is connected on the other hand, therefore at the top of FIG. 2; by rectifiers to the grids of the n-p tubes which are complementary to the p tubes named in the first place. These rectifiers are designated by Sp + 1 to Sn. They are connected in such a way that the grids of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Meter tubes follow the most negative voltage of the applied voltages as well.
Therefore? only the locking element corresponding to a state of the counter device receives in this state on its conductor a negative voltage, which therefore also appears on the grids of the np tubes which do not lead in said state The grids of the p conducting tubes, only! , are therefore provided with a relatively high voltage, so that the device is stably locked. The rectifiers Sn + 1 and Sn + 2 can be neglected in this case; their function lies in switching.,
If the device is used as a memory, and therefore switching is waived, these rectifiers can be switched on.
In this case the central connection point of the locking element can advantageously be connected through an element with high ohmic resistance to the negative voltage source o In the reciprocal device (where roofs are connected inversely in that concerns their direction of conduction, so that np tubes conduct, the other p being non-conductive) this element with high ohmic resistance is connected to the positive voltage sourceo These resistors are intended to reduce the slowness of the device resulting from rectifier capacities o If we also consider switching, we insert a rectifier (Sn + 2) in the central conductor of each locking element o This rectifier is the counterpart of a second rectifier (Sn + 1)
connected to the upper connection point of the locking element and to the Xo terminal The most negative voltage of the voltages applied to these two rectifiers is felt at the upper connection point and thereby to the grids of the n-p tubes controlled by this point connection. To switch the device from one state to another, it suffices to apply a negative voltage for more or less time to terminal X of the locking element corresponding to this other state (and to this terminal only)
The locking element corresponding to the primitive state then loses its control in favor of the controlled locking element After removal of the control voltage also the device remains stably locked in the new state This control voltage is obtained by means of locking elements, also three of which are shown.
As many switching elements are required as there are locking elements, one locking element and one corresponding switching element for each state; is that just like the twisting element, the switching element is connected by p separate rectifiers (S 1 to Sp in figure 2) to the reduced and delayed anodes, VA, of the p meter tubes which lead into the state to question.
On the other hand the connection point (W) of all the switching elements is still connected by separate rectifiers (So in figure 2) to the switching conductor Aoo All the rectifiers are therefore connected here to the anode circuits with low ohmic resistance of the meter tubes and of the switching tube, so that they have a controlling influence on the switching elements. They are connected in such a way that the connection points W follow the most positive voltage of the voltages applied to said rectifiers.
The switching conductor Ao is normally kept positive, poexo by such an adjustment of the potentiometer Ra that the grid Go of the switching tube is kept just negative and that this tube does not conduct. None of the W points of the switching elements can therefore become negative in these circumstances.
However, if the switching conductor is made negative poexo by the application through the point P and the capacitor Ca (resitance Rc) of a positive pulse to the gate Go of the switching tube, only the switching element corresponding to the original state considered will become negative.
If we imagine the point W of this switching element, poexo W 1, connected to the point X of a locking element corresponding to a state other than the state considered, poexo Xr, the counter device passes from first state to ro Rectifiers S 1, 1 to S1, p still remain negative for the time being because of the delay networks R 1 - G 1 to Rn - Cn.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
To prevent the counter device from advancing through two states at the same time, the interval during which the switching tube 0 is conducting must not exceed the delay caused by said delay networks, 'This can be achieved e.g. by choosing the exact values for the resistor Rb and the capacitor Ca with respect to said delay networks.
The connection points W of the switching elements can still be connected with advantage to the negative voltage source (positive for the reciprocal assembly) by elements R 1 with high ohmic resistance. In a counter device provided with a switching device described, there are therefore two connection points in the locking elements separated by a rectifier (Sn + 2).
The lower connection point follows the most positive voltage; the upper connection point follows the most negative voltage.
These points therefore have a perditance with high ohmic resistance to the negative voltage source, respectively positive (respectively by R 2 and R 3).
In the reciprocal device the polarities are still inverted.
The connection between the W points of the switching elements and the X points of the locking elements is quite arbitrary; this is why these connections are not modified in figure 2. If only part of the total number of states is used, it suffices to provide the switching and locking elements corresponding to these desired states. res.
FIG. 3 gives the diagram of a device according to the invention comprising five tubes, two of which are simultaneously conductors. The number of possible states is therefore ten.
All ten locking and switching elements are shown. The connections between points W and X are shown in dotted lines; they can therefore be chosen quite arbitrarily. In this case, the counter device runs through all ten states in the following order of succession (x = conductor, o = non-conductor): Tube 12345
0 x x o o o
1 x o x o o
2 o x x o o
3 o x o x o
4 ooxxo
5 o o x o x
6 oooxx
7 xooxo
8 x o o o x
9 oxoox
After the description of the general case, the example of FIG. 3 will be clear without further explanation.
For the reciprocal case we follow a similar reasoning.
