The invention relates to improvements relating to ejection seats for airplanes.
It applies to an ejection seat intended to be launched, occupied by the pilot or the passenger, of an airplane or other flight device; The provides a mechanism by which the seat is launched from the aircraft by means of an ejection group actuated by a force applied thereto, for example by a pressure produced by one or more explosive cartridges.
One of the forms of ejection seats to which the invention is particularly applicable comprises a main frame on which the seat is mounted, an ejection gun operating to eject the seat and its frame along fixed guide means in the airplane, one or more anchoring systems, a harness., a mechanism for releasing the harness and means which can be actuated, such as the seat is ejected from the airplane, to automatically ensure, in the correct order and in due course, the operations necessary to enable a pilot to descend by means of a main parachute. A shutter or screen is also provided, which is pulled in front of the pilot's face before the launching of the aircraft, from the seat and its occupant and which remains in this position during said launch.
Means connect the shutter or screen to the firing or firing mechanism of the ejection gun, so that the pulling of this shutter or screen in position actuates or triggers the firing mechanism of the ejection barrel. .
Ejection seats of the aforementioned type are the subject of previous Belgian patents nos. 483,896, 493,298, 502,049 and 513,945.
According to the present invention, there are provided means intended to hold or block an ejection seat in an airplane and to release this seat from the airplane when an ejection gun is actuated, said means comprising a blocking plunger loaded by spring, in the structure of the seat, the plunger which is normally in engagement with a movable part of the barrel and a fixed part of the latter as well, which blocks the seat and guarantees it from any displacement the plunger and the aforementioned parts having a relationship such that, when the barrel is actuated and the movable part begins to move relative to the fixed part, the plunger is pushed by the movable part and disengaged therefrom and this movable part engages with a part of the seat structure,
the movable part and the seat structure then begin to move together, whereupon the fixed part continues to push the plunger, which disengages from it, so that the seat structure is then entirely free to come out of it. habit of the plane.
The invention provides an effective arrangement for locking the seat structure in normal times, while leaving the mechanism capable of releasing it quickly at the appropriate time so that it can be ejected from the aircraft.
The accompanying drawings illustrate an exemplary implementation of the invention.
In these drawings, figure 1 shows a side elevation, partly in section, of the upper parts of the ejection barrel and the seat structure, with the locking device incorporated therein and figures 2, 3 and 4 are views diagrams showing the succession of movements of the locking device and of the cooperating parts, in the form of sleeves., thanks to which the seat structure is released when the ejection barrel is actuated.
In the construction example shown in the drawings, there is provided an ejection barrel in which the cylinder or barrel itself 1 is provided with guide rails 2, said cylinder being fixed to a part.
