<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

The present invention relates to an automatic device for the expulsion of moist air and the suction of fresh air for conditioning the drying air circuit in a dryer, in particular for pasta or for any other. product that uses a similar drying process. It is known that in the dryers used, for example, for pasta, a current of air pushed by fans circulates around the pasta and causes their drying, thanks to the supply of humidity by means of hot air.
When the drying air stream is saturated with moisture, it is no longer used for drying. It is therefore necessary to reduce its humidity level, by eliminating a certain quantity of air saturated with humidity which is replaced by fresh air so as to have a lower humidity level. in the mixture, which will then be heated.
The intake of fresh air and the expulsion of air saturated with humidity are usually carried out by means of pipes and openings. But this system has great drawbacks, because it gives rise to an irregular renewal; at the same time it is impossible to regulate the degree of humidity so as to have a good functioning of the dryer.
A good adjustment can be obtained with the device of the invention which makes it possible to expel a part of the humid air, while the other part is mixed with fresh air so as to adjust the degree of humidity and give it the value necessary for the drying process.
The mixer of humid air and fresh air is circulated by the same device, object of the present invention, in particular points so as not to cause an imbalance in the operation of the dryer.
There is described below, by way of non-limiting indicative example, an embodiment of the device, object of the present invention, with. reference to the accompanying drawings, in which; Figure 1 shows the dryer in longitudinal section along the line I-I of Figure 2; Figure 2 shows the dryer in plan; Figures 3 and 4 show cross sections of the dryer respectively along lines II-II and III-III of Figure 2; FIG. 5 shows, in cross section, a detail of the pipes and inlet flaps for the fresh air-humid air mixture; FIG. 6 is an axonometric perspective view of the pipes of the device in correspondence of the air delivery and suction flaps.
The dryer, object of the invention, comprises a box i in which is located a chamber 2 where the substance to be dried is placed. On the ceiling of room e which is made up of a perfumed screen l sdat placed fans v which circulate the drying air, circulating it, in the spaces IL and through the perforated side screens f so as to bathe the substance inside. to dry.
The drying air stream is heated by suitable heaters to aid the removal of moisture from the pasta, or any other substance to be dried.
Within a certain period of time the current of air dries up, its humidity load. If the humidity of the air exceeds a certain degree, the air in question is no longer usable for drying; it is then necessary to reduce the said degree of humidity. The device which is the object of the present invention then comes into operation: it expels a certain quantity of humid air, which will be replaced by a corresponding quantity of fresh air so

to achieve the degree of humidity required by the drying process.
The chamber 1 (fig.1, 2,3, 4) has openings a placed laterally near the bottom. The moisture-laden drying air is drawn in by a fan ± placed in the upper part of the dryer, where it arrives passing through the openings to and through the vertical pipe i and the pipe h.
The humid air, under the action of the fan z is then forced back into the pipe c; it finally comes out through the openings b by a suction effect caused by the fans v.
The fans v rotating successively in both directions so as to change the running direction of the drying air flow, which is necessary to obtain uniform drying of the substance to be dried, placed in the chamber e; the openings b are two in number 111 and b2 for each fan v, placed one before and the other after said fan. These openings are closed by small shutters 12 which rotate around hinges as shown in Figure 5.
It is obvious that if the fans turn so as to push the air current from left to right, (fig. 5), the opening b1 opens, while the opening b2 closes due to the action. exerted by the air current on the shutters p. By changing the direction of operation of the fans v and of the air current, the opening b1 comes to close and the opening b2 comes to open. When the drying air is torp loaded with moisture, the device which is the subject of the invention comes into action via the vertical pipes x and y. The fresh air enters through the opening m placed on the pipe v while the humid air pushed by the fan !. is expelled through the opening n placed in the pipe x.
The delivery and suction flaps m and n can be controlled by hand or by means of thermostats and humidistats and / or by clock devices for mathematical adjustment and for the adjustment, in time, of the work program .
The opening of the shutter m is placed in the upper part of the pipe y and the incoming air mixes with the air pushed by the fan.! before it arrives Without the pipe c which carries it to the openings b and to the drying circuit.
The two pipes x and y are open internally and they are in communication with the suction pipe of the humid air leading to the openings a
The dryer, object of the invention, performs the continuous conditioning of the drying air stream by means of the illustrated device.
