Fig. 1 est une vue en élévation de face d'un tel dispositif;
Fig. 2 en est une vue en bout;
Fig. 3, une vue en plan, et
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

METHOD AND DEVICE FOR INTERIOR VARNISHING OF CONTAINERS.
It is sometimes necessary to coat the inside of containers of all shapes and types with varnish and in particular the cylindrical bodies of tin cans, black tin, aluminum, cardboard or any other material intended for the canning industry. .
Until now .. this operation was done by sprinkling, dipping or spraying with a gun and using compressed air.
The first two methods mentioned above have various drawbacks. They make it necessary to cover the entire container with varnish, in particular its exterior parts where protection is less necessary, which leads to an excessive consumption of varnish. On the other hand, the amount of solvent to be used is very high, and, finally, their application is complicated and leads to inequalities in the distribution of the varnish as a result of the need to carry out drainage.
Spray painting, which is the most widespread process, also involves a very high consumption of varnish, part of it being entrained in the form of a mist and not being deposited on the box. On the other hand, some of the most volatile solvents are vaporized during the projection by compressed air and they no longer fulfill the role assigned to them in the composition of the varnish. Finally, this process requires special protection for the workers themselves. which can be intoxicated by inhaling the solvent vapors and soiled by the projections, that of the immediate surroundings of the varnishing installation. Indeed, none of the capture devices known and used hitherto provide sufficient protection.
The object of the present invention is a method which makes it possible to avoid all the above-mentioned drawbacks. This process consists of pro-

throw by centrifugation, inside each varnish box body, using a rotary distributor equipped with an automatic metering device, a calculated quantity of varnish, strictly necessary to coat the interior walls of said body. The rotary distributor can advantageously move parallel to its axis of rotation in order to be able to cover the entire interior of the body of the box without having to move the latter.
Thanks to this process, significant varnish savings are made due to the fact that only the strictly necessary quantity is used and that all the varnish is deposited perfectly evenly in the box, without projections on the outside. At the same time, we therefore avoid having to protect the surroundings of the machine.
In order to speed up the operation, it is preferable to bring the varnish to the distributor under pressure, for example by gravity.
The rotary distributor is preferably formed by a sort of hollow mushroom whose interior cavity communicates with the exterior by a peripheral slot and by a continuous opening formed around its rotation shaft, opening through which the varnish is brought inside. distributor, for example by means of a tube extending along the shaft which drives the distributor.
According to the invention, the entire control of the distributor and of the varnish supply device can be arranged on a movable carriage parallel to the direction of the distributor shaft, the automatic dosing of the varnish being carried out at the using a tap or needle needle capable of being opened for a determined time, this carriage being mounted opposite a device making it possible to present the bodies of boxes to be varnished each in turn, in front of the rotary varnish distributor.
The movement of said carriage is advantageously controlled, by means of a set of cams, by a drive shaft also driving the device for presenting the boxes.
The automatic control of the metering valve or needle needle can be done using a lever cooperating, when moving the carriage, with a fixed ramp integral with the frame of the machine.
The device for feeding and presenting the boxes is, for example, constituted by a wheel bearing at its periphery notches corresponding to the shape of the boxes to be varnished and a periodic control - which can be actuated by the same shaft that the cam driving the movement of the mobile carriage rotates, between each varnishing operation, a fraction of a turn sufficient to substitute, for a notch, that which immediately follows it.
The box bodies can be brought from the device and removed from it using inclined slides or roller tables, for example.
In order to put the varnish under a slight pressure when it arrives at the dispenser, a supply tray can be suspended above the entire device or the varnish can be placed in a capacity placed below and subjected to air pressure.
The accompanying drawings show an embodiment of a device according to the invention. In these drawings:
Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of such a device;
Fig. 2 is an end view;
Fig. 3, a plan view, and
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Fig. 4 shows, on a larger scale, a detail of this device.
As shown, the device comprises a base 1 supporting a horizontal table 2 on which are fixed by means of brackets 3, two parallel bars 4. A carriage 5, capable of sliding on the bars 4, carries, parallel to said bars and by means of a sleeve 6 serving as a bearing, a shaft 7. The latter is connected, at one of its ends provided with a pulley 8, by a belt 9, to an electric motor 10 also mounted on the trolley 5.
On the other end of the shaft 7, formed by a cylinder-conical part 11, is secured, by a screw 12, a distributor 13.
This takes the form of a mushroom hollowed out at its inner part at 14, this recess 14 communicating with the outside on the one hand along the part 11 and on the other hand, at the periphery of the distributor 13, by a continuous slot 15. The internal face of the walls of the recess 14 is further provided with projecting ribs 16 located in radial planes.
A tube 17, disposed obliquely with respect to the shaft 7, opens out along the part 11, via a nozzle 18 (FIG. 4) inside the recess 14 of the distributor 13. This tube is placed in communication. , at its opposite end, by means of a needle punch 19 integral with the carriage 5 and a flexible pipe 20, with a varnish tank 21 suspended above the device. On the nozzle 17 are cut two parallel facets 22 allowing it to be screwed into the tube 17 using a key.
The opening of the needle needle 19 can be controlled by means of a rod 23 sliding axially and biased in the direction of closing of said needle by a spring contained in a housing 24. The end 25 of this rod is threaded. and fitted with a flanged nut 26.
In the groove of the nut 26 engages a fork 27 formed at the end of an angled lever 28. This lever is articulated at 29 on a part 30 integral with the carriage 5 and carries, at its end opposite the fork 27, a roller 31 capable of cooperating with a ramp 32 fixed on the table 2 of the device.
The carriage 7 also carries, at its rear part, a horizontal roller 33 cooperating with a cam plate 34 integral with a shaft 35 vertically passing through the table 2. This shaft 35 is driven in rotation by a motor shaft 36, at the bottom. by means of a conical return 37.
On the other hand, on the base 1 and the table 2, on the side of the distributor 13 is fixed a support 38 on which is fixed in cantilever a short shaft 39. On the latter is mounted a double wheel 40 provided with its periphery with substantially circular notches 41. One of the flanges of this wheel is provided, on its internal face, with tenons 42 capable of cooperating with a roller 43 mounted at the end of an arm 44 integral with the shaft engine 36.
On either side of the wheel 38 and perpendicular to its axis are arranged two inclined rectilinear slides 45 and 46.
The device works as follows:
A varnish box body 47, brought by the slide 45 and placed in a notch 41 of the wheel 40, being in the axis of the distributor 13, the cam 34, driven by the shafts 35 and 36, pushes the carriage 5 back. to the right (fig. 1 and 3), by acting on the roller 33. The distributor 13, driven rapidly in rotation by the motor 10 then approaches the box body to be painted. When the distributor enters the latter, the roller 31 engages on the ramp 32 and the lever 28 moves, thus opening the needle needle 19 by acting on the rod 23.
The varnish then flows from the tank 21 and arrives in the distributor 13 through the nozzle 18. The slight pressure under which it is found causes it to be
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
projected onto the bottom of the distributor, the centrifugal force resulting from the rotation of the latter causing it to spring out from the slots 15, through which it covers the internal walls of the body of the varnish box.
The projecting ribs 16 ensure good distribution of the varnish around the periphery of the dispenser.
During this time, the carriage 5 has performed a back and forth movement corresponding to a double passage of the distributor 13 throughout the length of the gearbox body 47, the return movement taking place for example under the action of a spring. , not shown in the drawings. The stroke of the carriage 5 can be modified according to the depth of the box bodies by changing the dimensions of the cam 34. Likewise, several interchangeable distributors 13, of different diameters, can be used, adapting to the various box diameters. .
When the carriage 5 comes back, and the distributor is removed from the painted body, the roller 31 leaves the ramp 32 and the needle needle 19 closes, interrupting the arrival of varnish to the distributor 13. It is possible to thus, by screwing the screw 26 more or less on the rod 23-25 and by modifying the length of the ramp 32, respectively adjust the flow rate of the needle needle 19 and its opening time, so as to provide exactly the quantity of varnish necessary to receive the inside of the box body.
The carriage 5 arriving close to its extreme rear position, the roller 43, carried by the lever 44 driven by the shaft 36, comes into contact with one of the tenons 42 and pushes it back, thus causing the wheel 40 of the fraction to turn. turn necessary to bring a new box in the axis of the distributor 13. The operation then begins again as described above.
The varnished box bodies 48 fall, under the action of gravity alone, from the notches 41 on the discharge slide 46.
