ROBINET MELANGEUR MITIGEUR PERFECTIONNE.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

PERFECTED MIXER MIXER TAP.
The present invention relates to mixing or mixing valves, and more particularly to valves intended for progressive mixing. of two liquids, comprising in each of the liquid inlets an inlet valve moved to a desired position by means of an appropriate mechanism controlled for example by a lever rotating at a certain angle and possibly provided with a position indicator.
For the various embodiments envisaged until now, the point considered important consisted in the progressiveness of the mixture and various proposals have been made on this subject, relating on the one hand to the shape of the inlet valves, and on the other hand to the mechanism acting on these valves.
But if for the valves it was possible to obtain economically satisfactory solutions, it was not the same for the mechanisms which, because of the desired progressiveness, comprise a set of parts of complicated shape, and in which the addition of the mounting clearances makes precise adjustment difficult, and promotes wear with the subsequent adjustment.
On the other hand, in the various solutions proposed, we have been content to admit as a sufficient condition, that the sum of the partial openings remains approximately constant and approximately equal to the opening of any one of the inlets, those - here always being equal in practice. However, it has been disputed that, for the intermediate positions, the homogeneity of the mixture at its outlet from the valve was often insufficient, and that this homogeneity was very appreciably improved when, for these intermediate positions and in particular the middle position, the sum of partial openings was significantly greater than the maximum or total opening of an inlet valve.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
It has also been noticed on the other hand that, due to certain well-known hydraulic phenomena such as, for example, vibrations in the pipes, small water hammers, etc., the position of the control mechanism and therefore the proportions of the mixture changed spontaneously, which is particularly objectionable when it is desired to deliver with complete certainty only one of the two liquids. currently, it is impossible to remedy this defect, without, or hardened? control of the valve, which annoys some users, or even further complicates the control mechanism.
The object of the present invention is to eliminate these defects and drawbacks by making use of an improved embodiment relating to the following points:
1) Elimination of any complicated mechanism and any harmful play while maintaining precise progressivity.
2) Reduction of the mobile components to three elements of very simple shape, economically machinable, and which can be assembled or mounted without individual rework, or adjustment subsequent to assembly, namely: two inlet valves and a control member of these valves .
3) Outline of the inlet valves ensuring a great progressive opening and closing, linked in a desired and foolproof way with the position of the valves.
4) Outline of the member controlling the valves ensuring, for the intermediate positions, a sum of partial openings of the valves greater than the maximum or total opening of any one of the valves.
5) Outline of the organ controlling the valves ensuring for the extreme positions a self-locking guaranteeing the non-pollution of that of the liquids which one wishes to receive in the pure state.
The invention will be easily understood by referring to FIG. 1 of the accompanying drawing, in which the interested parts of an improved mixing valve according to the invention intended by way of example for the on-demand distribution of a desired mixture of hot and cold water are represented, or one of these liquids only.
The accompanying drawing includes several other figures referenced 2, 3 and 4 which will be discussed later.
In fig. l, we see a valve body 1, comprising a circular chamber 2, closable by a sealed cover (not shown), provided with threaded pipes 3, 4 and 5, the first two 3 and 4, intended for connection with the pipes of supply of liquids to be mixed, and each containing a valve block, and the third 5 intended for connection with the outlet pipe.
The pipes 3 and 4 as well as their respective valve block are identical, and only one of these partial assemblies will be described in detail.
The pipe 3 is cylindrical and has an external connecting thread 6, an internal thread 7, the function of which will be indicated later, a cylindrical chamber 8 provided at its bottom with a valve seat 9 and a cylindrical duct 10, opening out in circular chamber 2, coaxial with chamber 8.
In this chamber 8 and this conduit or borehole 10, can slide a valve unit comprising three parts each having a shape of revolution relative to the axis common to the chamber 8 and to the borehole 10. These three parts form a block by any assembly. conventional elements machined separately.
The pipe 3 is arranged so that the axis common to the chamber and to the borehole meets the axis 11 of the circular chamber 2.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
In the drawing, the axes common to the respective chambers and bores of each of the tubes are in the extension of one another, but this arrangement is not imperative and these two axes can form an angle if it is deemed appropriate.
The valve block of the pipe 3 comprises a buffer disc 12, a cylindrical rod 13 provided with grooves 14, the arrangement of which: and the role will be explained later, and a valve piston 15 bearing on its periphery parallel grooves 16 to its axis.
In the circular chamber 2 of the valve body, we see a cam 17 of specially designed profile half-moon integral with a control lever 18, (shown) in dotted lines), whose axis of rotation is the same as the axis 11 of the circular chamber 2, the rotational movement of this "cam-lever" assembly being guided by two sealed bearings (not shown) formed one in the body of the valve, the other in its cover. The cam 17 is placed opposite the buffer disc 12 and its rotation makes it possible either to force the valve block to admit the corresponding liquid, or to let the valve block return spontaneously until the piston-valve 15 stops on the seat 9 to stop the introduction of liquid. This closed position of a valve block is shown in pipe 4.
The spontaneous return of the valve block is normally ensured by the pressure of the liquid in the corresponding supply line, but if it is deemed necessary, this return can be aided by a spring 19 compressed between the piston-valve 15 and a threaded ring. (not shown) screwed into the thread 7.
When the valve block is sufficiently discharged by the cam 17, the liquid arriving in the pipe 3 passes through the grooves 16, then the grooves 14 and enters the chamber 2. It comes out, after mixing or not, through the pipe 5 .
The organization of the grooves 14 constitutes one of the important features of the present invention. This characteristic will be easily understood by referring to FIGS. 2, 3 and 4 of the attached drawing.
Fig. 2 shows an arrangement already known and adopted in several fields for gradually passing a liquid or a fluid, from the space 20 into the space 21, these two spaces being separated by the partition 23.
For this purpose, the rod 24 sliding without play in the borehole 22 is provided with grooves 25 limited to the side of the liquid inlet by ogival ends 26. It is easily understood that, when the rod 24 advances in the direction of arrow 27, and that the tops of the pointed ends open into space 20, it is possible to obtain a very gradual passage from liquid to .fluid, from space 20 to space 21. But this progressiveness is only manifested for a path of the rod 24 equal to the height of the ogives, height between the two broken lines 28 and 29. This path is obviously very short and often insufficient.
To overcome this difficulty, the present invention provides for an appropriate staggering of the tops of the ogival ends (see FIG. 3), the ogival shape then no longer being essential because of this staggering, possibly accompanied by an increase in the number of grooves. , so that the progessivity extends over the long distance 30,31 instead of the too short distance 28, 29.
In addition, it becomes possible to choose a particular progressiveness that is absolutely foolproof during use of the valve, by locating the tops of the ends 26 along a determined curve. Thus in fig. 3, these vertices are located on a constant pitch propeller so that the flow rates of the liquid vary linearly with the displacement of the grooved rod, while in FIG. 4, this variation in flow rate is
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
a predetermined non-linear function of the displacement of the grooved rod.
It will easily be understood that the arrangement of FIG. 4 can be used either alone or in combination with an appropriate organization of the partial "cam-control lever" assembly to achieve another important characteristic of the invention, namely the obtaining for the intermediate positions of a sum of 'partial openings greater than the maximum or total opening of any of the liquid inlet openings.
As regards the valve control member or partial "cam-lever" assembly, with reference to FIG. 1, we see that its organization is based essentially on the degrees of discharge of the valve blocks to be obtained as a function of the angular position of this partial assembly.
In the drawing, the cam is located in one of its extreme positions corresponding to the single admission of the liquid arriving through the pipe 3. The dimensions and the profile of this cam must be determined by the conventional drawing, as a function of the desired angular travel for the lever 18 and the minimum displacement of the valve blocks ensuring the unblocking of the top 31 of the end of the groove (see fig. 3 and 4) in the cylindrical chamber of the corresponding pipe, that is to say - say the total opening of the valve block.
But it will be noted that the radius 11,32 of the cam (see fig. 1) is such that if the said cam is rotated from left to right, the valve block is first pushed back and then returns to the right (back spontaneous) and does not begin to function in closing until the moment when this radius 11.32 reaches position 11.33. So, during this maneuver, the total opening is constantly ensured in the pipe 3, but on the other hand, the rounded profile 34 of the cam has started to push the valve block of the pipe 4, and therefore, to open it gradually. .
It will also be noted that the profile of the cam is symmetrical with respect to a plane integral with the control lever, and on the other hand, that already when the point 35 of the cam comes into contact with the point 36 of the buffer disk of the block -valve of the tubing 4, this valve unit will have reached a fully open position, the valve unit of the tubing 3 always remaining in a fully open position.
To help the understanding of this combination of combined movements of the two valve blocks, the description of these movements is gathered in the table below in correspondence, for the example of embodiment shown in FIG. l, with a complete angular maneuver from left to right of the control handle.

For the description of the movements of the valve blocks in a right-to-left operation, it suffices to reverse, in the table above, the reference numbers of the tubing.
It can be seen from this table that, for all of the intermediate positions 3, 4 and 5, the two pipes are completely open, which ensures optimum conditions for the homogeneous mixture of the two liquids.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
It can also be seen that for the extreme positions of the control member, the degree of discharge of the valve unit in total opening is however less than the maximum degree corresponding to the middle position 4, and therefore, due to the pressure exerted by the liquid on the grooved piston-valve, there is self-locking of the control member in these extreme positions.
According to the attached drawing, the angular stroke of the control member, corresponding to all of the intermediate positions 3, 4 and 5 is relatively large, while the angular strokes of the same member, corresponding to the intervals 1, 2 and 6, 7 are relatively small. It should be understood that the accompanying drawing is only a demonstrative example intended to clearly highlight the operating principles of an improved valve according to the invention, and that in practice, the various arguments; total angular travel of the control member, profile of the cam, minimum discharge of the valve blocks ensuring their total opening, are chosen so that the interval 3, 4 and 5 is very small while the intervals 1 , 2 and 6, 7 have on the contrary a great extent.
In addition, as explained above, we can use as a fourth argument the shape of the staggering of the ends of the grooves (on the liquid side), formed on the cylindrical bodies of the valve blocks with a view to 'appropriately modify the progressivity function.
It is therefore finally seen that the improvements which are the subject of the present invention completely eliminate the defects and drawbacks listed at the beginning of the present description with regard to currently known mixing valves, and that, under remarkable conditions of mechanical simplicity and economical machining. .
The valve blocks can be constituted by a coaxial assembly of turned elements.
The valve assembly is very simple and does not require any individual retouching of the parts, nor any particular adjustment after assembly.
The mobile system does not have any harmful play by construction and any wear between the cam and the buffer discs of the valve blocks is automatically taken up by the pressure of the liquids to be mixed, and possibly, in the event that this pressure is too high. weak, by the action of the springs 19.
It should be understood that in accordance with the rules of the art, the mixing valve improved in accordance with the present invention may include all the usual construction details, such as: position index of the control handle with talking dial, drain, elbow fittings on the tubing allowing easy inspection and cleaning of the valve blocks, heat-resistant plastic lining on the bearing surfaces when the piston-valves are closed, etc.
