Le pinceau conforme à l'invention est décrit ci-après en détail en plusieurs modes d'exécution, illustrés sur le dessin annexé' dont,' la figure 1 montre, avec certaines parties en coupe, un pinceau complet établi selon un premier mode de réalisation de l'invention;
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

TELESCOPICALLY RETRACTABLE BRUSH IN A TUBULAR HAMP.
The invention relates to a brush, the bristles of which are fixed to the end of a rod mounted to slide in a tubular shaft, so that these bristles can be brought, by acting for example on a lug integral with the rod and projecting through a slot provided for this purpose axially in the wall of the shaft, at will, either in an active position in which they protrude from one of the ends of the assembly, or in a rest position in which they are completely retracted inside the tubular shaft.
It is advisable to provide a brush with this type of means capable of opposing a certain resistance to the axial sliding of the rod in the shaft, in particular when it occupies in the latter one or other of the positions specified above. above.
The brush according to the invention comprises particularly simple and effective means for this purpose.
It is especially characterized in that its rod carries on its part opposite the bristles, at least one elastic washer, preferably in a flexible material such as rubber, and of dimensions such that it is elastically deformed by the internal walls of the tubular shaft, so as to brake by friction against them the axial movements of said rod in said shaft.
The brush according to the invention is described below in detail in several embodiments, illustrated in the accompanying drawing 'of which,' FIG. 1 shows, with certain parts in section, a complete brush established according to a first embodiment. realization of the invention;
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
and Figures 2 and 3 show, also with some parts in section, brush rods established in two variants, the not shown parts of these brushes being assumed to be substantially the same as those shown in Figure 1.
The brush according to the invention comprises, in a manner known per se, bristles 1 fixed to one of the ends of a rod 2, slidably mounted in a tubular shaft 3 so that these bristles 1 can be brought; by acting on a lug 4 (driven like a nail diametrically into the rod 2, and the free end of which protrudes through a slot 5 formed axially in the tubular wall of the lamp 3) at will ; - either in an active position, in which these bristles protrude from one of the ends of the assembly, the brush then being, as shown in FIG. 1, ready to be used; - or in a rest position, not shown, in which the rod 2 and the bristles 1 of the brush are fully retracted, inside the tubular shaft 3.
The brush according to the invention is characterized by at least one washer of an elastic material mounted on the rear part (that is to say that which is opposite to the bristles 1) of the rod 2, so that it can brake the axial movements of the rod 2 in the shank 3 by rubbing with its outer edge against the internal wall of this tubular shank 3.
According to a first embodiment of the invention shown in two embodiments in Figures 1 and 2, the washer 6 or 6a is made of a flexible material and preferably of rubber, its diameter and thickness being chosen such that, during the movements of the rod 2 in the shank 3, it adopts the shape of a cap or an umbrella as shown in FIG. 1. To enable it to adopt this shape in one or the other direction by compared to the rod 2, the latter is narrowed in 2a or 2b at the places surrounding the washer 6 or 6a.
The fixing of the flexible washer on the rod 2 is preferably provided by one or the other of the two embodiments shown in Figures 1 and 2.
According to the first of these embodiments, the rod 2 comprises an annular groove 7. The washer 6 is forcibly fitted onto the rod 2 by its central opening and brought, by using its radial elasticity, to be housed in the groove 7 .
According to the second embodiment (Figure 2) the washer 6a is held by a nail 8 or a screw against the rear end of the rod 2.
It will be understood that when the rod 2 is slid axially in the tubular shaft 3, the washer 6 or 6a, rubbing with its periphery against the internal wall of this shaft, slows down the movements of the rod 2 relative to the latter.
It should be noted that one also benefits, in this first embodiment of the invention, from a certain blocking of the rod 2 at the end of its travel in the shaft 3, which blocking is due to the aforementioned umbrella-shaped deformation of the washer 6 or 6a which, supporting itself at its periphery against the internal wall of the tubular shaft 3, must be turned up so that the rod 2 can reverse its stroke in said shaft 3, so that ' it is necessary, before being able to make the rod 2 come out of its extreme positions, to overcome a relatively high elastic resistance.
Instead of the washers 6 or 6a of flexible material, it is possible, in accordance with another embodiment of the invention, to use one or more washers 9, as shown in FIG. 3, established in a
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
relatively rigid material (eg thermoplastic or thermosetting material) and split into 10 to increase their elasticity in the radial direction. These split washers or rings 9 are mounted with a certain radial play in deep annular grooves 7a for this purpose, formed in the rear part of the rod 2, so that these rings 9 resiliently bear on their periphery against the internal wall of the shaft 3, rubbing against it during the axial displacements of the rod 2.
The brush thus established in accordance with the invention has the advantage of not including any locking that the user must voluntarily play at the end of the stroke, friction braking and in particular the anti-recoil locking by rolling up the flexible material washer. operating automatically and for any position of the rod 2 in the shank 3.
