IMPROVEMENT WITH SEWING NEEDLES.
The present invention relates to known hand sewing needles and it relates in a definite way to a useful improvement made thereto, whereby the task of threading the thread through the needle for sewing is greatly facilitated.
As is generally known, needles of the above type which now exist consist of a small cylindrical bar having a pointed end and an obtuse end, provided with a transverse hole located in the vicinity of the end. obtuse and called the eye of the needle.
This eye must necessarily be narrow and, in the types currently in use, the more the said eye is widened, because of its variable location at the obtuse end, the more the side walls which limit it weaken; for this reason, there is a definite relation between the diameter of the bar which constitutes the needle and the eye of the latter. This circumstance is the cause of the fact that the eye of thin needles is so small that threading is made very difficult.
The proposed invention tends to overcome the drawbacks indicated and allows the manufacture of needles the threading of which can be carried out with perfect ease and in a manner so simple that it can be carried out without even looking. the eye; it also has the peculiarity that if the threading device is placed about a third of the length of the needle, it is even easier to perform the threading, because it is more reasonable and simpler to thread a thread through a needle without having to contemplate its obtuse end.
The improvements introduced will be explained in detail in the following description which is based on the accompanying drawings.
Fig. 1 represents the upper part of a perfected needle

tioned, which makes it possible to judge the characteristics of the eye, and also represents the projection of the pointed part of the needle.
Fig. 2 shows the rear part of FIG. 1 and the slot through which the thread is introduced into the eye of the needle.
Fig. 3 shows the position of the thread after it has been introduced into the eye through the slit.
Fig. 4 is a view which shows the different phases of the introduction of the thread, which is pulled as it passes through the slit towards the eye of the needle.
In all the figures, the same references indicating similar and / or corresponding parts.
With regard to fig. 1, it should be observed that the improved needle according to the invention consists of a cylindrical bar 1 of variable and adequate length, which has a pointed end and an obtuse end, the latter indicated by the reference 2; at a distance approximately equal to one third of its length, the needle has an eye formed by the transverse hole 3, limited by the sides 4, 4 '; side 4 is opened by a cut 5 which forms the slit which gives access to the inside of the eye of the needle.
Looking at the drawing, it can be seen that the area in which the eye is formed is weakened and that it is the side 4 'which must obviously bear all the force when the lower part of the needle is bent; however, when the cut 5 is made so that the face formed by the cut in the lateral part 6 is very close to the front face formed in the part 7, this proximity allows these faces to come into contact when the needle is subjected to bending, which contributes to the resistance, attenuates the bending, and in this way, prevents the 4 'side from breaking.
The needle thus shaped allows easy threading because, to do so, it is necessary to act as shown in fig. 4, by placing the thread 8 so that the two ends of this thread hang down from side to side. other side of the needle; hold the two hanging ends with one hand and the needle with the other; the two hanging ends are pulled together in the manner of a clamp until the thread fits into the cut 5; then stretch the thread in the direction of the cut, which forces it to pass through the slit and enter the eye itself; the needle is thus perfectly threaded.
The ease of the operation described and the strength of the needle in use determine the characteristic manner in which the cut is made; as can be seen, the cut is tilted towards the sharp end of the needle.
In view of the foregoing description, it is understood that the needle and the hole which forms the eye can have any suitable and suitable dimensions according to the use for which the needle is intended; it is also understood that the eye does not necessarily have to have the shape shown and that it can have any desired shape without departing from the scope of the present invention; The rights attached to the latter are clearly set out in the appended claims.
