DISPOSITIF REMPLACANT LES ESSUIE-GLACES DES VEHICULES ROUTIERS.
La présente invention est relative à un dispositif remplaçant les essuie-glaces généralement utilisés sur les véhicules routiers.Il est avéré que ces essuie-glaces, de quelque type qu'ils soient, et indépendamment des ennuis mécaniques ou autres auxquels donne lieu leur emploie ne peuvent don- ner satisfaction en toutes circonstances;

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

DEVICE REPLACING THE WINDSCREEN WIPERS OF ROAD VEHICLES.
The present invention relates to a device replacing the windshield wipers generally used on road vehicles. It has been found that these windshield wipers, of whatever type, and regardless of the mechanical or other problems to which their use gives rise do not can give satisfaction in all circumstances;
in fact, their operation is particularly faulty and most often ineffective in snowy weather or heavy frost The snow accumulating on the windshield prevents their normal operation, it is not uncommon to see a wiper blocked either by snow or by ice which forms on the windshield Even if the wiper is of a sufficiently strong type or works perfectly even in the presence of snow or ice, it does not can only clear a small portion of the windshield, the rest of it being made opaque by accumulated snow or ice. The field of vision of the driver of the vehicle is thus greatly reduced to the detriment of his safety and that of other road users.
The device which is the subject of the present invention eliminates all the aforementioned drawbacks, does not include any movable element subject to breakdowns or likely to be immobilized by the weather and also has the great advantage of preventing the accumulation of water. snow, ice or rain on the entire surface of the windshield and therefore provides the driver with maximum visibility
Said device comprises means making it possible to establish in front of the outer face of the windshield, that is to say that which is exposed to bad weather, a screen of hot air large enough to oppose the accumulation of snow and the formation of a layer of ice on said face of the windshield.
The hot air jets constituting said screen can be strong enough to counteract the effects of the relative wind created by the movement of the vehicle and prevent rain, drizzle or snow from coming into contact with the windshield.
This device is completed by means provided at the bottom of the barrier.

breeze and intended to suck in air laden with humidity or transporting water in the vesicular state which may form eddies at this location and which may tend to settle on the lower part of the windshield.
In principle, the device, according to the present invention, consists of a hot air distribution manifold disposed, on the outside, along the upper part of the windshield and along all or part of its lateral edges. ; a suction ramp being disposed along the lower edge of the windshield.
The hot air distribution manifold can be supplied with hot air by any known means already used for blowing hot air on the inside face of the windshield in order to prevent condensation on said face. or to ensure its defrosting. As for the suction ramp provided, at the bottom of the windshield (outer face), the necessary vacuum can be obtained by connecting this via a humidity separating filter to the suction of the fan or the turbine supplying the hot air circuit.
One embodiment, given by way of non-limiting example, is shown in the appended drawing, in which:
FIG. 1 is a schematic representation of the device according to the invention.
Figure 2 is an elevational view of the outer face of a windshield glass equipped with the device according to Figure 1.
The windshield 1 is fixed in the usual manner in a frame fixed in the body of the vehicle between the roof 14 and the bonnet 15 ° The outer face of the windshield is marked 2 while its inner face bears the mark 3.
Along the upper edge of the windshield 1 and the side of its outer face 2 is installed a hot air distribution manifold consisting of a pipe 4 of appropriate section provided with openings 4 'arranged and oriented so that the jets of hot air which it is called upon to distribute in front of the outer face 2 of the windshield, are directed, in part, parallel to the latter and in part at a divergent angle towards the front of the vehicle ( see the arrows representing the air jets in figures 1 and 2). This pipe 4 can also be extended along all or part of the side edges of the windshield, as shown in FIG. 2, so that the screen formed by the air jets extends in front of all of the windshield. the outer surface of the windshield.
At the bottom of the windshield and also along its outer edge is installed a ramp 5, pierced with openings 5 ', intended to suck, as defined above, the air laden with humidity or water at the bottom. vesicular condition that can accumulate there. The openings 4 'drilled in the ramp 4, as well as the openings 5' drilled in the ramp 5, can be round, oblong or take any other appropriate shape; they could, for example, consist of slots cut in the wall of the tube forming said ramps.
The ramp 4 ensuring the distribution of hot air and the formation of a protective screen in front of the front face of the windshield is supplied, in the embodiment shown, by the hot air circuit ensuring the heating of the interior of the vehicle and / or blowing hot air along the inner face of the windshield in order to prevent condensation thereon. It should be noted that in such an embodiment, the two faces of the windshield are maintained at approximately the same temperature, which eliminates any risk of condensation.
The ramp 5 sucking the air at the bottom and outside of the windshield, is, in this same example, connected to the suction of the fan 9.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
FigSo 1 and 2 of the illustrated drawing shows the operation and action of the device according to the invention.
An installation for the production of hot air of a conventional type generally consists of a fan 9 drawing in the air to be heated through a temperature exchanger 10 supplied either by the cooling water circuit of the unit. engine or by the exhaust gases of the latter.
The cold air enters through 13 into the temperature exchanger 10-from where it is sucked in by the fan 9 and delivered by the latter into the pipe 8 supplying, for example, a defrost device 6 installed along the lower edge of the inner face, a pipe 7 derived from the pipe 8 supplies the ramp 4 with hot air.
A pipe 11 in which is interposed a water separating filter 12 begins in the cold air inlet 13 (before the temperature exchanger 10) and is connected to the ramp 5 placed at the bottom and at the outside of the windscreen = 1. This piping II as well as. the ramp 5 is put into depression by the suction of the fan 9. The water separating filter 12 can be of any known and usual type, with mechanical separation (chi = canes), absorption, chemical or other.
The projection of the hot air through the openings 4 'of the ramp 4 can be done with a force such as to compensate for the thrust of the relative wind created by the movement of the vehicle and so as to achieve in front of the entire surface of the windshield = a A screen or air mattress to prevent rain and snow from reaching the windshield, with the swirling air near the bottom of the windshield being sucked in, as described above by ramp 5.
It is expressly specified that the object of the invention is not exclusively limited to the embodiment described and shown and that modifications may be made both to the arrangement, to the form and to the nature of its elements. constitutive, provided that these modifications are not contradicted by the following claims.
