MECANISME D'EMBRAYAGE

CLUTCH MECHANISM
The present invention relates to a clutch mechanism making it possible to produce a fast clutch, at slow or fast speed, without stopping the control motor.
According to the invention, such a clutch mechanism comprises: a driving means and a concentric driven means, one of these being preferably in the form of a pinion sleeve, the other in the form of a axis internal to said sleeve; a nut wedged on the drive or driven means in the form of an axis and having one or more teeth or any projections; at least one ball movable substantially radially and intended to allow the engagement of the nut wedged on the means in the form of an axis and of the driving or driven means in the form of a sleeve-pinion, by means of any aforementioned teeth or projections; and a clutch control means.
The drive or driven sleeve mechanism can normally be mounted around the spindle-shaped means with the interposition of one or more bearings, such as ball bearings.
In one embodiment, the aforementioned movable clutch ball, but preferably three clutch balls, are housed in cavities formed in the aforesaid sleeve-shaped driver or driven motor '', so that they can move radially inwardly for clutch contact with any teeth or protrusions of the aforesaid nut, or move radially outward to eliminate such a clutch.
In yet another embodiment, the clutch control means consists of a ring which can slide longitudinally and externally on the driving or driven means in the form of a sleeve, said ring having internally a circular groove or any housings, in which have the ball (s) in the disengaged position, i.e. when the circular groove or the suspended housings
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
said of the ring are brought into contact with the ball cavities of the sleeve, the clutch position of the mechanism corresponding to the setting out of correspondence of these cavities of the sleeve, and the groove or housings of the ring.
According to yet another embodiment, the clutch control means, such as the ring above, comprises a lever making it possible to slide said ring on the sleeve.
Other details and features of the invention will emerge from the description given below by way of nonlimiting example and with reference to the accompanying drawings.
FIG. 1 shows, partially in section, a mechanism according to the invention, in the clutch position.
FIG. 2 is a partial view of the mechanism, in the disengaged position.
Figure 3 is a section along the plane III-III of Figure 1.
The clutch mechanism, as shown, comprises a shaft 1 which will be assumed hereinafter to be the driving means, and a pinion sleeve 2 which will be considered to be the driven means.
The shaft 1 comprises any gear 3, while the sleeve-pinion 2 drives a gear 4. The shaft 1 rotates internally to the sleeve 2 with the interposition of two ball bearings 5, without driving said sleeve, in the position clutch. On the shaft 1, is wedged a nut 6 representing three teeth 7 provided at 120 degrees from each other.
In the sleeve 2, there are three cavities 9 in which are housed three balls 8 which can therefore slide radially therein, the three cavities 9 being arranged at 120 degrees.
It will be immediately understood that the shaft 1 can drive the sleeve 2 in its rotational movement, as soon as the teeth 7 of the nut 6 remain in contact with the balls 8 housed in the cavities 9 of the sleeve 2. Such a position of the balls will constitute therefore the clutch position, while, in the disengaged position, the balls 8 must be separated from the teeth 7.
A ring 10 has been provided for rapid and easy engagement or disengagement. This ring 10 has a circular groove 11 with inclined sides 12. In the position of Figure 1 (clutch position), the ring 10 has been slid to the left, so that the inclined portion 12 of the groove 11 has forced the balls 8 to converge radially and come into contact with the teeth 7 of the nut, which automatically drives the sleeve-pinion 2. When the ring 10 has been returned to the position of Figure 2, the balls 8 are are spaced radially from the teeth 7, have entered the groove 11 of the ring 10 and are held there by a small piston 13 with spring 14.
A lever 15, provided with drivers 16 housed in an outer circular groove 17 of the ring 10, allows this ring to slide in either direction, a stop 18 being provided on the sleeve 2. The circular groove 17 in the ring 10 allows free rotation of the latter.
It should be understood that the invention is not limited to the above embodiment and that many modifications could be made to it without departing from the scope of the present patent application.
