<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
L'assemblage peut être réalisé de différentes manières, ainsi qu'il est montré aux figures 3,4 et 5. La tête 18 peut être fixée tout d'abord en place et le rotor 27 peut ensuite être assemblé à l'arbre 10a du moteur. Après cela, la partie tronconique 15 peut être fixée à la tête 18, comme il est montré à la figure 3, au moyen d'une pièce annulaire rainurée 29 (la rainure recevant le renflement 17 et la tête 18 présentant également une partie rainurée 18a, destinée elle aussi à recevoir le renflement 17);
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

IMPROVEMENTS RELATING TO HELICOIDAL GEAR PUMPS.
This invention relates to helical gear pumps and stators therefor.
The pumps to which the invention relates are pumps of the type described in the specification of Belgian Patent No. 394,965, with a stator having internal helical grooves or threads and with a rotor having external helical grooves or threads, the stator having a thread of more than the rotor. One of the characteristics of a pump of this type is that when the rotor rotates on its own axis, the stator makes an orbital movement around the rotor following a cylindrical path.
According to the present invention, a stator for a helical gear pump comprises an internally helically grooved cylindrical member, surrounded, over substantially its entire length, by a casing connecting it at one of its ends and moving away from it at the end. other end, said stator being made of a material; elastic.
The invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which: FIG. 1 is a plan view of an embodiment of a pump, with motor, according to the invention.
Figure 2 is a cross-sectional view taken along line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 shows part of the motor housing and part of the pump, disassembled, and it also shows how these parts are assembled.
Figures 4 and 5 are fragmentary cross-sectional views, showing variations of the method of assembly, and
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Figure 6 is a cross sectional view of another embodiment.
In a nutshell, in the practice of this invention, the pump stator, with the inlet or outlet extension, if necessary, and the major part of the pump casing are molded in one piece, in starting from an elastic material such as rubber or the like. The open end of the casing portion of the pump which surrounds the stator is closed by a flat cup-shaped head, provided with an inlet opening for the shaft and sealing means for the shaft. . This flat head also has an opening forming an inlet or outlet for the pump.
The elastic part of the pump casing is attached to the rest by an annular seal, and the pump, as a whole, is attached to an annular extension of the casing or motor casing, so that it is only attached. 'in an annular part. Due to the elasticity of the casing surrounding the stator, the stator itself is free to follow the movement imparted to it and a housing, in the usual sense of the term, is rendered unnecessary. This element can, however, be provided as shown in Figure 6, if it is desired to conceal the movement of the stator.
The invention is illustrated by the following description of a number of embodiments, which are given by way of example only.
Referring in particular to Figures 1 to 3 of the drawing, it can be seen that the motor is generally designated by 10 and that the pump is designated by 11. The motor 10 is preferably provided with an annular extension indicated at 12, to which the pump is fixed annularly.
The stator of the pump is indicated by 13 and, as will emerge from the examination of FIG. 2, it has an extension 14, forming an orifice, an extension which is substantially coaxial with the stator 13. The stator is also provided with a frustoconical envelope part 15, which surrounds it and which advantageously extends over almost its entire length at least.
The frustoconical casing 15 has an annular flange 16 and this flange preferably carries an annular bulge 17.
The open end of the frustoconical part 15 is closed by a head 18, in the form of a flat cup, which may be made of light sheet metal or the like and which has an opening allowing the entry of the shaft 10a of the motor. A support element 19 is preferably welded to the head part 18 around the opening reserved for the shaft and the shaft advantageously has a groove 20 in which a spring ring can engage. 21.
Between the bearing element 19 and said ring 21, there is provided a sealing device, which may be of a more or less common model, comprising a free bearing element 22 and an elastic element 23, held in place. 'state tensioned by a spring 24. The rim of the elastic element 23 bears against the ring 21 and the spring pushes the free bearing element 22 against the bearing element 19, thus effectively sealing against the shaft inlet opening provided in the head 18.
An element 25, providing an opening, can be brazed, welded or fixed in any other suitable manner in an orifice 26 of the head 18.
The rotor 27 can be fixed to the shaft 10a of the motor by a threaded part 28, provided at the end of the motor shaft, engaging in an internal thread of the rotor 27.
The assembly can be done in different ways, as shown in Figures 3, 4 and 5. The head 18 can be fixed first in place and the rotor 27 can then be assembled to the shaft 10a of the. engine. After that, the frustoconical part 15 can be fixed to the head 18, as shown in figure 3, by means of a grooved annular part 29 (the groove receiving the bulge 17 and the head 18 also having a grooved part 18a , also intended to receive the bulge 17);
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
the annular part 29 has an annular extension in which suitable holes are provided for the passage of the fixing bolts 30.
Figure 4 shows a variant in which the flange of the head 18 is extended annularly as indicated by the phantom lines, at 18b; the flange is first fixed in place by means of screws or the like, at 31, After that, the extension part 18b is folded back into the position drawn in solid lines at 18c, thus tightening the flange 16 and the bulge 17 against head 18.
FIG. 5 shows yet another variant, in which an annular clamping member 32 is also fixed by means of screws 33, the extension 18d of the head flange then being folded back into the position indicated at 18c.
During operation, when the motor is rotating, thus causing the rotor 27 of the pump to rotate, the stator 13 is caused to move in a cylindrical path around the axis of the shaft 10a. The elasticity of the frustoconical part 15 of the stator allows this movement, the pom. eg being fixed to the engine only in the region of the annular seal situated between the frustoconical part 15 and the head 18. The extension 14 serving as an orifice can be fixed in any desired manner to a pipe or the like. The same applies to part 25. During operation, the entire parts
15 and 14, observed from the outside, will show a vibrating effect at relatively high speeds.
The pump, however, is completely isolated from the outside and has been found to operate very efficiently.
As the crankcase, in the usual sense of the word, has been avoided, the pump is much lighter and much less expensive than it has hitherto been the case.
As the extension 14 will oscillate in a cylindrical path with the stator 13, the connection of the piping to this device 14 will be continuously in motion. It may be desirable, for certain purposes, for it to remain fixed, and for this purpose the variant shown in Figure 6 has been provided, in which the device 14 has been removed from the end of the stator and in which the stator , with its funnel-shaped casing 15, as shown in Figure 2, has been enclosed in a dome-shaped casing to which a fixed opening device is attached.
Referring to Figure 6, it can be seen that the stator 13 and its funnel-shaped casing 15 appear as before and that the funnel-shaped part 15 is provided with an annular flange 16, with a bulge 17, as described above. The open end of the funnel-shaped casing 15 is also closed by a relatively flat cup-shaped member, indicated at 40, having an annular flange 41, terminating, at the periphery, in a groove 42, intended for to receive the bulge 17.
Element 40 is provided with an opening passage 43, which can be fixed by soldering, as shown at 44. Element 40 has a central flanged opening, for the passage of the drive shaft from motor, the annular flange 45 serving as a support and fixing member for the sealing device generally indicated by 46. As the sealing device does not form part of the present invention, it will not be used. described in detail. Head 40 is suitably attached to a bracket 47, which carries bushings 48 for the drive shaft 49. The drive shaft 49 may have a threaded end 50 for engagement with the threaded hole 51 of the rotor 27.
Thus, in the essential points, the device shown in Figure 6 is the same as that shown in Figure 2. Note however that the opening device 14 has been removed from the end of the stator 13 and that an element 52, forming a housing, has been provided. The element 52 is provided with a peripheral flange 53, which ends in a peripheral annular groove 54, corresponding to the groove 42 of the head. During assembly, the two grooves 54 and 42 surround the annular bulge 17 and its elements are held together by means of the ring or clamp 55, as shown. The tightening ring 55 can be provided with vertical ears 56, tightening being carried out by means of bolts and nuts generally indicated by 57.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The housing 52 can be made of relatively light sheet metal and can carry the opening device 58 fixed thereto, by soldering or in any other way.
It is clear that the only significant change made to the device shown in FIG. 2 lies in the provision of an additional housing 52 with an opening device attached thereto.
