BROYEUR A TAMBOUR.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

DRUM CRUSHER.
The present invention relates to a drum mill which may or may not be equipped with a wind separator. The feeding of the drum mill with material to be ground can be done with any known device using mechanical or pneumatic means.
The invention consists firstly in that an air nozzle is arranged for the separate admission of sorting air in the vicinity of the material supply device of the grinding drum and, preferably, below. of this device. This sorting air current has the effect that the material to be ground introduced into the grinding drum is distributed by classifying itself over the length of this drum in a manner corresponding to its granulometric position, so that each grain size of the material to be ground is combined with a grinding path in the drum adapted to this grain size.
Thus, coarse grains should be subjected to the grinding action directly, as much as possible, after their introduction into the drum, so that the full length of the drum is available for that fraction of the material to be ground. On the other hand, the material to be ground which is fed to the grinding drum, already in a fairly fine state, must be carried far enough into the interior of the grinding drum by the sorting air stream.
The purpose of this procedure is for the drum mill to be no longer loaded with the material to be ground except to the extent necessary according to the particle size composition of each case of the material to be ground.
It is already known to feed the grinding drum with material to be ground directly by a stream of air. In this case, the air flow must be calculated to overcome the friction between the charged ground material and the transport feed line to the drum mill. This is the reason why such a provision does not allow, like the present
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
-invention, to regulate the air flow exclusively according to the requirements of the exposed sorting action of the material to be ground inside the grinding drum
In order to achieve the most efficient sorting possible, it is advantageous that the width of the sorting air nozzle corresponds at least to the width of the material feed stream discharged by the supply device.
The sorting air nozzle can advantageously have a rectangular cross section and it is useful to provide a device for varying the height distance between the material supply device and the sorting air nozzle. It is also possible to produce a change in the height of the outlet section of the nozzle, for example, by the permutation of corresponding nozzles of different shapes. It is also possible to modify the inclination of the material feed passage and finally it is possible to use a device to vary the quantity of sorting air passing through the nozzle.
The aim of all these devices is to be able to adapt with the greatest precision the sorting air which is supplied to the drum separately from the material supply, in each case according to the nature, the particle size composition and the moisture content. of the material to be ground to obtain a good sorting effect. The well-known oscillating corridor constitutes a particularly suitable material supply device, because it makes it possible to regulate the flow rate with great precision and independently of the regulation of the sorting air flow.
It is advantageous to group the material supply device, the material supply passage and the sorting air nozzle in a closed housing, which is connected to the mill as airtight as possible. . In this case, the sealing of the inlet opening of the loaded material can be ensured by the material itself.
If a wind separator is incorporated in such a drum mill, it is further advantageous according to the invention that the opening for the separation air stream surrounds, in the form of a ring, that cu air flow of material supply. In this way, the separating air stream exerts its effect so that the desired effect of classifying the sorting air stream is not adversely affected. A directing apparatus may be combined with the annular air channel for the separation air stream. The conformation of the sections of the annular air channel is advantageously made so that an appropriate expansion of the stream of separation air occurs upon entry of the separation air into the grinding drum.
The purpose of the separation air stream is to immediately remove from the mill the material which has been reduced to the desired fineness and, in addition, the separation air stream has the role of removing from the mill the fraction of the material. material which would already have the desired fineness when introduced into the mill, without this fraction of material being practically subjected to the grinding action by the grinding tools, the filling with grinding body or other elements.
The invention also provides means for clearing the outlet opening of the air stream separating the annular air channel from the material to be ground itself. For this purpose, means of transport participating in the rotation of the crusher drum are recommended. These transport means can be configured as guide vanes for the separation air and the orientation of these vanes is preferably done in such a way that a twisting movement in the direction opposite to the rotation of the drum is imparted to the air. separation.
Other details of the invention emerge from the embodiments shown in the accompanying drawings.

of the material feed passage and of the sorting air nozzle.
Figures 4 and 5 are a longitudinal section and a front view of a directing apparatus for the separation air stream.
Figures 6 and 7 are also a longitudinal section and a front view of the arrangement according to Figures 4 and 5, according to an alternative embodiment.
Figure 8 is a development of part of the steering apparatus with the adjacent part of the spiral casing.
FIG. 9 is a longitudinal section through the end of the feed side of a crusher drum according to another exemplary embodiment.
Figure 10 is a development of a section taken along line A-B of Figure 9.
According to FIG. 1, a casing 2 has been arranged at the supply end 1 of the grinding drum, not shown, this casing being connected to the grinding drum as airtight as possible. Above this housing 2 is the feed hopper 3 for the material to be ground.
The bucket wheel is arranged below this hopper 3 and constitutes the feed device. The feed material is fed from the bucket wheel 4 through the passage 5 into the grinding drum. The sorting air nozzle 6 is located with the air pressure tube 7, below the lane
5. The supply device with the supply passage and the sorting air nozzle are therefore grouped in the housing 2 forming a block. The material to be ground 8 located in the hopper 3 provides a seal against atmospheric air at the entry of the material into the grinder.
Figures 2 and 3 show, on a larger scale, the feed passage 5 and the sorting air nozzle 6, 7. It can be seen from Figure 3 that the sorting air nozzle has a rectangular section and that 'it is a little wider than the width of the feed corridor 5.
A device according to Figure 1 can then be introduced into the central opening 9 of the head of the crusher according to Figures 4 and 5 or 6 and 7 respectively. In these figures, the inlet end of the crusher drum is designated by the reference numeral 10.
According to Figures 4 and 5, to this end 10 of the grinding drum is connected a directing device 11, for the separation air, which is connected to the end of the grinding drum by means of a labyrinth seal 12. The casing of the directing apparatus 11 is provided with vanes 13, a detail of which is shown in development in FIG. 8. It is seen that the section of the casing of the directing apparatus opens in the form of a cone towards the inside of the crusher drum.
A spiral envelope 14 is connected to the envelope of the directing apparatus II. The separation air is introduced, through the delivery pipe 15, into the spiral casing 14, where the separation air is released, which passes through the mill in the relaxed state following a helical path. as a result of the inclination of the vanes 13. According to Figures 4 and 5, the axial height of the spiral casing 14 increases in the direction of the flow of the separation air.
The embodiment according to Figures 6 and 7 is essentially consistent with the embodiment according to Figures 4 and 5, with the difference that the delivery pipe 16, for the separation air, opens into a casing 17, the width of which considered in the direction of the axis of the mill remains constant, while the radial extent gradually decreases to 0 in the direction of flow of the separation air stream.
In the embodiment according to FIG. 9, the drum crusher is formed by the casing of the drum 18, shown partially, which is mounted on rolling rings and controlled by a toothed ring in a known manner. Since these details are not the subject of the invention,
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
are not shown in the drawing. The drum shell 18 ends with a conical drum section 19, which is connected by the seal 20 to the fixed head 21 of the mill.
The crusher head 21, which is supported by the foot 22, consists of a spiral-shaped air supply casing 23 and the related air supply duct 24. The air supply casing d The air 23 provides a central opening 25, in which the material supply device with the sorting air nozzle according to figure 1 can be fitted, for example.
Guide vanes 26 are mounted in the conical section 19 of the drum. FIG. 10 shows a developed section of these vanes. The arrow in strong lines in FIG. 10 indicates the direction of rotation of the drum 18. The guide vanes 26 being integral with the drum section 19, they rotate in the same direction of rotation during the operation of the crusher.
The arrows in dashed lines in FIG. 10 indicate the path of the separation air coming from the air supply device and passing through the guide vanes 26.
When the crusher is stopped, the filling, consisting of the grinding bodies and the material to be ground, reaches a certain level in the drum 18 and more or less fills the lower part of the conical section 19 of the drum; it may then be that at least partially and at the lower edge the outlet opening for the separation air, and, in particular, the outlet opening of the conical air supply channel 27. When the crusher is started, the guide vanes 26 transport the filling within reach of these guide vanes in the direction of the drum.
The conical shape of the section 19 of the drum particularly contributes to effectively clearing the outlet opening of the separating air supply device from the filling of the mill, so that the separating air can enter the drum 18 without being. hampered by filling the crusher.
FIG. 10 also shows that the chosen orientation of the guide vanes 26 imparts a twist to the separation air introduced into the mill by the air supply device, this twisting of the separation air has the effect that this air is supplied to the drum 18 in a spiral-shaped path, so that this twist is opposed to the direction of rotation of the drum. As a result, particularly favorable conditions are created for the separation air to sweep the section of the drum 18 so that the sufficiently small fractions of the material to be ground are effectively discharged from the mill by this flow of separation air.
As long as the drum mill is operated with pneumatic separation, it can also work preferably in equi-current according to the principle of a grinding and drying plant using air or other gaseous fluids as drying agents. . Sorting air and separating air can also be used for this purpose.
