<EMI ID=1.1>

<EMI ID=12.1>

VEHICLE ON TRACKS WITH IDLER WHEELS, ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH SPEEDS.
The invention starts from vehicles on rails for high speeds, in which the centerlines of the axes of the idle wheels or at least of the idle wheels of the driving wheel sets form an angle in the horizontal plane with the center line of the carrying axle. corresponding and in which the idle wheels are mounted on the axle as reflected with respect to the longitudinal median plane of the vehicle. In these known embodiments, fixed carrying axles are provided and there is no need for any control mechanism.
The invention, on the other hand. suggests ordering idle wheels mounted on a horizontally flexible carrier axle or idler wheels mounted on articulated half-axles, as a whole or at least those of the driving wheelsets of a bogie, wagon or train,
such that the center lines of the idle wheels form an angle in the horizontal plane with the axis line connecting the centers of the idle wheels to each other and the idle wheels' on one side of the wagon are in this case arranged as reflected in relation to the vertical longitudinal median plane of the vehicle The control of the idle wheels in the most favorable position for forward and reverse travel can

front end of the bogie wagon or train are in this case provided in the same direction or in opposite directions and of equal force; or else the driving idlers are brought into the angular position greater than zero degrees and the driven idlers, into the zero degree position or into the position between these two limits. It also comes within the spirit of the invention to bring the idle wheels of a bogie or of a vehicle to the required angular position by individual steering or by angular deviation.
of the bogie relative to the wagon body or by the transverse displacement of the wagon body relative to the idle wheels. The essential diffe-rence of the arrangement according to the invention compared to known wheel controls lies in the fact that the idle wheels of each flexible carrier axle or of each articulated half-axle to the carrier axle are brought by the control in a position where they appear as the reflected image of one another with respect to the longitudinal median plane of the vehicle and thus always tend to ensure the rolling with respect to the median line of the track.
The carrier axle directly receiving the idle wheels can, in this case, be made up of two half-axles articulated in the middle of the wheel set. According to another proposal, the idle wheels of a set of wheels can, according to the invention, be mounted to pivot in the planes of the rolling circles or near these planes, on vertical or approximately vertical journals, at the ends of the rolling circles. the non-rotating carrier axle and the extensions of the half-axles may be linked together by articulation.
If the connection of the symmetrically shaped half-axles is made by a cross member, which surrounds a bolt on a little less than its half and which, on its side, is surrounded by cylindrical caps, the bolt or even the cylindrical caps can be connected. to a torque support serving at the same time as a control member. According to another embodiment of the invention, the torque supports or the extensions of the half-axles of each pair of idle wheels forming a set of wheels are connected by a shaft with the identical parts of a second set of wheels. wheels, longitudinal movement
of the shaft and hence a change in the angle of the idlers being produced by the rotation of a nut. The length of the shaft, including that of the rotational torque supports or other connecting elements, may correspond to the idle wheel spacing or even be smaller than the idle wheel spacing. The extensions of the half-axles may be provided, at their point of intersection, with a lever, on which act a pre-compressed spring or a hydraulic shock absorber or else these two devices in common. The invention also provides for connecting by articulation, by a connecting rod, the common point of rotation of the flexible axle halves or the extensions of the half-axles, to a cross member of the vehicle, the connecting rod being of less than half length.
the distance of the idle wheels in the middle of said moving cross member or cross member of the vehicle. Likewise, the cross member of each axle journal can be hingedly connected to the load-bearing leaf springs clamped in the bogie or the body of the wagon, to transverse rods provided therein or to load-bearing leaf springs and connecting rods. . Finally, the two outer guide axles can be connected by elements
diagonally rigid frames, suspended vertically and transversely to the direction of travel, which ensure the parallelism of each pair of wheel sets.
The object of the invention is shown in the drawing, which comprises nine figures.
Figure 1 shows a plan of two carrying axles fixedly mounted on a rigid frame, with steering control of the wheels in the same direction. Figure 2 shows a corresponding embodiment but with a steering control of the wheels in the opposite direction. FIG. 3 shows, in cross section, a set of wheels with controlled wheels and a rigid carrying axle. FIG. 4 shows a bogie vehicle in plan, with control of the direction of the wheels by the horizontal angular deviation of the bogie in the frame. FIG. 5 shows a plan of two carrying axles mounted fixed in a rigid frame, with control of the direction of the wheels by attacking the rails by the flanges. Figure 6 shows, in cross section, a wheel set with wheel steering control and oscillating axle middle part.
Figure 7 shows a partial longitudinal section of a wheel set. Figure 8 shows a section along line AB of Figure 7, and Figure 9 shows a cross section, of the wheel set along line CD and the articulation of the torque support to the tie rod determining the deflection of the train. wheels.
As can be seen in figure 1. the train of wheels, capable of being steered, of the vehicle on rails consists of the non-rotating carrying axle 1 and the half-axles 2, articulated to the first and being able to pivot horizontally, on which the idle wheels 3 are mounted by means of bucket bearings or sliding bearings. The half-axles 2 are extended to the longitudinal center of the wagon and are connected in

valiant with play.
The steering of one half-axle 2 results in the steering of the other half-axle 2 in the opposite direction. If the center articulation points 4 of the half-axles 2 of two sets of wheels are connected to each other and if their link bar 5 is moved in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle, in the case of a bar length equal to the distance between the wheel sets, the idle wheels of the second wheel set are, as
it is shown in Figure 1, brought to the same position as the idle wheels of the first set of wheels. This has the consequence that the first set of wheels, in the curve, with its idle wheel leading on the outer rail .. and the second set of wheels, with its idle wheel leading multiple times on the inner rail have starting ratios also good. The connecting bar 5 is partially shaped as a screw and is guided by a nut

horizontal. When rotating the threaded nut produced by means of
the crank 8 ,. the screw and. as a result, the bar 5 is moved in the longitudinal direction and fed. in the same direction, idle wheels of the two sets of wheels in the same position is produced i.e. when rolling to the left according to figure 1, all idle wheels are directed angularly towards the left and that when rolling to the right, all idle wheels are angled to the right.
In the embodiment of the invention shown at <EMI ID = 4.1> less than the distance between the wheel sets. In this case, the idle wheels of the starter wheel set are set obliquely, while the following idlers have the angular position 0 [deg.]. In practice this constitutes a multiple advantage. especially since a driven wheelset always presents more favorable starting ratios. By choosing the length of the bars 5 and 9. it is also possible to obtain any intermediate positions of the second set of wheels.
The control of the bar 9 is produced here by the motor 10, which is advisable, in particular in the case of trains, because of the simplification of the maneuver. It goes without saying that mechanical actuation ,. electric. pneumatic or hydraulic from the driver's station of the vehicle is also possible. so that the necessary angular position of the various

the fixed tubular axle 11 is guided by a shaft 13 which, on the outer side, is connected to the wheel body 15 by the plate 14 and which, on the inner side, is connected to the Cardan joint 16.
The transverse shaft 17 going from end to end connects the two Cardan joints 16. By the connection of the two idle wheels and by the taper of the bands.

Thus, the strut is protected from wear. Thanks to the toothed wheel 18, fixedly mounted on the shaft 17, the latter can for example also be used as a drive shaft. The freewheels of the wheel sets can also be brought into the correct position in bends by the deflection of the bogies relative to the wagon body, while when running in a straight line the angular position 0 [deg.] Is obtained as desired and no strand wear occurs.

extension arms 21 located in the middle of the wagon. To these are attached, by means of connecting rods 22 ,, the half-axles 2 articulated in the longitudinal middle of the bogie. If, according to one point of the invention, the carrying axles of the wheel sets' are rigidly connected to a rigid frame, suspended vertically by springs or not, and if the bogie frame rotates around point 24, of the frame 6, the points of articulation of the connecting rods 22 to the wheelsets and to the de.prolongation arms 21 of the chassis. 6 are exactly established. When turning the bogies into position

When you come out of the curve, the idle wheels move back into parallel with each other and they act when you are driving on a straight track. like the wheels of normal undercarriages. If the vehicle has a balance with lateral suspension, the movable cross member is arranged directly and rotatably on the rigid frame horizontally of the bogie and it is provided with extension arms 21. In this case. the steering_of the idle wheels operates in the same way as

Despite the lateral and vertical elastic suspension of the wagon body relative to the rigid frame, no distortion of the wheel deflection is thus produced.
In the embodiment shown in Figure 5 the deflection of the idle wheels is produced only by the attack of the rail.
by the sausage. Carrier axle 1, stub axles 2 and wheels 3
are executed as in the case of figure 1. The central point of articulation 4-of the half-axles 2 is, however, in connection with a hydraulic damper 25, the piston of which is always returned to the middle position by the springs provided on the part and other. During the oblique attack of the rail by the flange, the idler attack wheel turns around the articulations of the carrier axle and determines, by the half-axles 2, which are connected to each other in the middle longitudinal direction of the vehicle, the reverse rotation of the opposite wheel. The hydraulic shock absorber 25, acting on the half-axles 2, has the role of preventing any beating movement of the idle wheels and of bringing about the rotation of the wheel only after exceeding.
