<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
La présente invention est décrite p lus en détail ci-après, avec référence aux dessins annexés illustrant quelques exemples de réalisation du dispositif et dans lesquels: les figures 1 et la sont respectivement des vues perspectives d'une disposition conforme à la présente invention et d'un élément en U; les figures 2 et 3 sont des vues en coupe de l'élément en U con- forme à deux autres réalisations; la figure 4 est une vue perspective d'un élément en U ainsi que de la chemise de classement associée et de l'élément de retenue en forme de tige ; les figures 5 et 5 sont des vues perspectives, partiellement en coupe, de l'élément de retenue magnétique conforme à deux formes de réa- lisation; la figure 6 est une vue perspective détachée d'un élément en U, muni d'un élément de renforcement;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

DOCUMENT FILING SYSTEM.
The present invention relates to devices with compartments intended for the classification of documents such as letters, archives, etc., as opposed to compartments intended for the classification of cards, provided for the classification of information sheets, etc. . which are all similar and designed to support each other in a packet of cards placed in the compartment.
The object of the present invention is devices of this type which overcome the drawbacks which are commonly encountered in most of the known filing devices, in which the documents to be filed are arranged vertically, and, therefore,
tend to move relative to the bottom of the compartmenta even if they are placed in file folders o Filing of documents is generally accomplished by placing individual documents in their folders without removing them from the compartment In systems where the loose covers or folders are used, these must be supported to occupy a vertical position, and filing new documents without removing the folders from the compartment is practically impossible; or the envelopes must be allocated sufficient space to allow them to be opened for inserting or removing documents.
In the latter case, the stack of files has to be tilted back and forth during the operation, causing the folders to be disturbed, moved to the bottom of the compartment and even folded or crushed o Filed documents also tend to come out shirts and must be put back in place.
In accordance with the present invention, the above drawbacks are overcome by the fact that the compartment is provided with a certain number of elements having a general U-shape, designed to be fixed to the bottom of the compartment and formed to be able to adapt to the reception of documents to be classified with or without covers between the jambs of the U-shaped elements.
The compartment space is then subdivided into a number of es-
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
parallel to each other, separated from each other by means of the jambs of the U-shaped elements, so that the documents to be classified, placed between said jambs, are supported by them and thus kept parallel to the to each other and are not affected by operations carried out in other parts of the compartment.
Said U-shaped elements may be formed by bending a continuous strip or sheet or by connecting two strips of tape or sheets by means of a transverse connecting element.
In order to facilitate the operation of the filing compartment, said U-shaped elements can be formed such that their legs diverge elastically when in a neutral position, so that a sleeve or the like, placed between said jambs, will tend to open when the documents, which are on both sides of said U-shaped member, are forced or pushed aside.
The individual U-shaped elements can be adapted to be removably and / or movably attached to the bottom of the compartment or can be moved as desired along the length of the compartment, and new elements. can be inserted between those already arranged there, without requiring any removal of documents classified from one element to another. Obviously, it is also possible to arrange the elements in such a way that they are connected immovably to the compartment, a possibility which is of particular interest in secondary ordering devices, for example in the form of a small box.
When it is desired to arrange the U-shaped elements so that they are detachable or removable, they can, in a manner known per se, be provided with an ear projecting downwards or with a similar element for - seen from an eyelet or a suitable slot provided to engage with a rod or bar extending the length of the compartment, but preferably said rod or bar takes the form of a magnet, the U-shaped element then being entirely or partially made of ferro-magnetic material or provided with a part of ferro-magnetic material so that each individual element is held in the compartment by a magnetic force. The magnet may, depending on local conditions, be a permanent magnet or an electromagnet, or even a combination of two such magnets.
If a permanent connection between the individual U-shaped elements and the bottom of the compartment is desired, this connection can be effected, for example, by means of a sheet-shaped element provided with a number of parallel slots. to others, arranged in pairs, the spacing of which is equal to the spacing between the legs of the U-shaped elements, and intended to be connected with the bottom of the compartment. In such an arrangement, the two legs of each of the U-shaped elements protrude upwards through the slits of said sheet, while the part which connects the jambs of each of said elements is situated below said sheet.
The pairs of slots will advantageously be placed at such distances from each other that the space between two adjacent U-shaped elements is also provided for receiving documents to be classified. But it is also possible to form the transverse connection between the legs of each U-shaped element so that it can serve at the same time as a transverse link element between the jambs of one or more other U-shaped elements. U, which puts these additional elements in position relative to each other. A permanent connection between the individual U elements can also be achieved by riveting them to a common bar.
According to another characteristic of the present invention, the connection between each of the U-shaped elements and the bottom of the compartment can be effected by means of an element designed to receive the lower part of a U-shaped element and provided. moreover, to be attached in a detachable, movable or permanent manner to the bottom of the compartment. These connecting elements also serve as reinforcing elements for the U-shaped elements, so that the latter can be made of a thinner or weaker material.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
This reinforcement can, however, also be obtained by providing each U-shaped element with a part having an increased cross-sectional area in the region remote from the free ends of the jambs. Said possibilities of providing the U-shaped elements with cross-sectional parts reduced towards the free ends facilitate the separation of said legs during operation of the filing cabinet.
To keep documents to be filed or individual filing folders in the appropriate U-shaped elements so that there is no displacement, for example during work carried out in another part of the compartment, the U-shaped elements can be provided with special retaining devices, for example hooks or staples, at the edge of the free ends of the jambs, or with parts of surfaces with increased friction force, for example in the form of parts of roughened surfaces, coating of rubber etcooo, or the liners can be permanently attached to the U-shaped elements, for example by gluing or riveting.
The present invention is described in more detail below, with reference to the appended drawings illustrating some exemplary embodiments of the device and in which: Figures 1 and 1a are respectively perspective views of an arrangement in accordance with the present invention and 'a U-shaped element; Figures 2 and 3 are sectional views of the U-shaped element in accordance with two other embodiments; Figure 4 is a perspective view of a U-shaped member together with the associated filing folder and rod-shaped retainer; Figures 5 and 5 are perspective views, partially in section, of the magnetic retainer according to two embodiments; Figure 6 is a cutaway perspective view of a U-shaped member provided with a reinforcing member;
Figures 7 and 7a are perspective views of a reinforcing element according to two embodiments; Figures 8 and 9 are sectional views of a device comprising U-shaped elements mounted in an irremovable manner;
Figure 1 illustrates a filing compartment 1 receiving a number of filing folders, such as the folder shown at 2, a single folder being shown in phantom, each supported by a U-shaped element 3, comprising parts of jambs 4 and 5 and a jamb connecting the transverse part 6, designed to be supported by the bottom of the compartment 7.
The U-shaped member 3 is formed by bending a thin strip or sheet of a relatively stiff and preferably elastic material, such as steel, aluminum alloy or plastic, and the width and width. thickness of the element forming the strip may vary according to the conditions imposed on the necessary physical properties o The length of the connecting part 6 is such as to allow easy reception by the element, of a liner 2 of normal type. that the element 3 exerts an increasing retaining force on the sleeve 2, the internal surface of the legs 4.
and 5 is provided with a part 8 of friction promoting properties, for example a part roughened on the surface of the leg itself or a rubber coating which is applied thereto, or ,, as shown in FIG. free end of each of the legs 4 and 5 can be provided with a curved part '9 to come into engagement with the upper edge 10 of the sleeve 2, said edge 10 then being suitably provided with a cut-out part 11 , so that the upper edge 12 of the legs 4, 5 does not protrude above the upper edge 10 of the liner 2.
In addition, the retaining device may be of the form illustrated in FIG. 4 in which the sleeve 2 is provided with slots 13 provided so that the legs 4, 5
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
of 1? element 3 in U penetrates therein The retaining device can also be of another type, technically equivalent to the types shown.
In the embodiments of the U-shaped member shown in Figures 2 and 3, the member 3 is formed by connecting the leg portions 4 and 5 by means of separate link members 14 and 15, respectively. In the case shown in Figure 2, the connection between the elements 4, 5 and 14 is effected by means of at least one bolt or transverse pin, while in Figure 3, the legs 4 and 5 are shown. welded to a continuous strip-like element 15.
In the latter two cases, the dimensions of the element 14 and the distance between the welds of the strip 15 determine the width of the U-shaped insulation and, as shown, several elements can also be combined in a U-shape. U in one unit
In the embodiment shown in FIG. 4, the U-shaped element 3 is provided, at the bottom, with a reinforcing piece 16, made of ferro-magnetic material and placed inside the jacket 2 on the part of the tube. link 6, which allows the U-shaped element 3 to cooperate with a magnet 17, in the form of a rod, placed perpendicular to the main direction of the jacket 2, that is to say in the usual direction of length of the filing compartment 1, so as to retain element 3 and the sleeve 2 it contains in a fixed position,
but removable relative to the bottom 7 of the compartment against which the rod 17 rests. To increase the holding force between the reinforcing part 16 and the magnet 17, the connecting part 6 and the bottom part of the sleeve 2 can be provided with a notch 18 so as to allow the part 16 and the rod 17 to be placed in direct contact with one another. The part 16 can be attached to the liner 2 in any suitable way, for example by gluing and, since the latter is made of a ferro-magnetic material, the U-shaped element can be retained magnetically no matter what. or the magnetic properties of the material used in said element.
Fig. 5 illustrates a suitable form of the magnetic rod 17 of Fig. 4. As shown, the magnet itself 19 takes the form of a transversely magnetized rod having north and south poles at the top and bottom respectively. . The rod 19 is provided with a pole piece 22, making contact with the bottom surface of the rod (the south pole) and expanding upwards on both sides of the rod 19 and provided with flanges at 21 on the surface. upper of the rod 19 (the north pole), which means that the assembly is presented with a south pole in each of the flanges 21, on both sides of the north pole of the rod 19.
As a result of the shape shown, the magnetic lines of force must basically pass between the upper parts of the assembly, ie through a piece 16 placed transversely to the length direction d? rod 19, as shown in figure 40
Figure 5a shows exactly the same assembly as Figure 5 except that the rod 19 is provided with an exciter coil 20 placed in the slots between the side faces of the rod 19 and the legs of the pole piece element 22. and extending around the length of rod 19 such that the rod exhibits the same magnetic properties as in Figure 5 when a DC voltage is applied to coil 220
As shown in Figure 6, the element 3 can be provided with a special reinforcing element 23,
in addition to the reinforcing piece 16 shown in Figure 4. For clarity the various elements, elements 3 and 23 and piece 16, are shown in detached positions and the liner 2 has been omitted. The additional reinforcing element 23, which thus has a general U-shape, is preferably made of a relatively rigid material, giving the assembly such elasticity that the element 3 itself can be made of a lighter material. The elements 3 and 23 are connected by means of ears 24 integral with the legs 4 and 5 and obtained for example by stamping, so as to be adapted to engage with the upper edge of the element 23.
Further, the bottom portion 25 of the element 23 is provided with flanged end portions 26 intended to include
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
secure the end surfaces of the reinforcing piece 16 so as to hold the latter in position in the assembly 3, 23. In this case also, openings similar to the openings 18 in FIG. 4 can be provided in element 3.
In FIG. 7 there is shown an embodiment in which the element 3 is provided with a claw-like element 27, fixed in any suitable way, for example by riveting, to the external surface of the part of the connection. its 6 and comprising curved arms having parts in the form of flanges 28 provided to engage the bottom surface of a rod or bar 17 arranged longitudinally, which means that the element 3 can slide along the length of said rod 17 but is not detachable.
In Figure 7, the reinforcing piece 16 and the actual liner 2 are indicated in phantom lines. Figure 7a illustrates a similar arrangement in which the element 29, provided with the claw-like element 27, is d-shaped. 'additional reinforcing element similar to element 23 shown in Figure 6 but, in this case, placed outside the U-shaped element 30
