Fig. 1 est une vue en élévation, partie en coupe, d'un siège du genre en question, pourvu de moyens conformes à l'invention pour ajuster la courbure initiale du coussin flexible formant hamac;

SEETING IMPROVEMENTS.
The invention relates to seats, such as chairs, armchairs or sofas, or the like, in which a flexible member forming a hammock, retained between upper and lower anchoring devices of a seat frame, is suitable for supporting the body. of the user from the shoulders to below the knees, and it relates in particular to improvements made to such seats of the type in which means associated with the upper anchoring device are provided to adjust or adjust the position. initial curvature of the flexible member forming a hammock.
Although the invention is of general application to seats of the kind in question, it is of particular utility in relation to seats in which the front part of the flexible member forming a hammock and supported on a thigh rest arranged on a transverse pivot is elastically mounted so as to allow the angle formed by the body of the user can be changed at will. It has been found that for different sizes and weights of people, the initial curvature of the hammock member is a very important factor in the comfort of the sitting position.
For example, if the initial curvature of the flexible hammock-forming organ is too great, the support at the site of the kidneys is considerably reduced, while if this curvature is too small, the angle formed by the body n is not designed to allow maximum comfort. The necessary adjustment of the initial curvature of the flexible hammock member is particularly critical, as even a very small variation will give a considerable difference in the comfort of the sitting position, and it is therefore essential that the means of The adjustment associated with the top anchor is capable of providing small and precise adjustments to the curvature of the flexible hammock member, whereby complete and most comfortable support of the hammock can be achieved. body of any user,
and thereafter maintaining it if necessary by such additional adjustment or adjustment as required to compensate for the extension which may occur in the various materials used in the construction of the hammock member.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The object of the invention is to provide an improved, simple and conveniently operable arrangement of seat adjustment means, by virtue of which the initial curvature of the flexible member forming the hammock can be easily fixed or adjusted, as required, to provide maximum comfort from a sitting position.
In accordance with the present invention, in a seat of the kind in question the adjustment means comprise a transverse bar, or the like, to which is connected the upper end of the flexible member forming a hammock, the said transverse bar, or similar, movable relative to the frame of the seat, and screw-like means cooperating with said crossbar, or the like, to adjust its position to reduce or increase slack in the seat. flexible organ forming a hammock. Preferably said cross bar, or the like, is mounted to move in an upward direction and in a downward direction relative to the seat frame.
More specifically, the invention comprises a seat of the type in question, comprising a flexible cushion forming a hammock, a pivoted or resiliently mounted thigh support supporting the lower end portion of the cushion, and an upper anchor in the form of a bar. transverse, or the like., supporting the upper end portion of the cushion, characterized in that the transverse bar, or the like, is movable in an upward direction and in a downward direction relative to the seat frame, and screw-like means, cooperating with said cross bar, or the like, are provided to adjust the position of said cross bar, or the like, relative to the seat frame.
In a preferred arrangement of the adjustment means, the screw means comprises an eye bolt, or the like, disposed to coact with the crossbar, or the like, in a location midway along its length, and which engages a threaded member so corresponding carried by a transverse rail of the seat frame.
In one embodiment, the upper end portion of the flexible hammock member is connected to and supported directly by the adjustable cross bar, or the like.
Alternatively, a tab or extension attached to the upper end of the flexible hammock member, passes over a roller or bar located at the rear upper portion of the seat frame, and is connected to the seat frame. the adjustable cross bar, or the like.
The cross bar, or the like, may be equipped or associated with guides so as to be able to slide relative to the seat frame.
The invention is described below, by way of example, with reference to the appended schematic drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is an elevational view, partly in section, of a seat of the type in question, provided with means according to the invention for adjusting the initial curvature of the flexible cushion forming a hammock;
Fig. 2 is a detailed perspective view of the adjustment means seen from the rear and,
Fig. 3 is a detailed sectional elevation illustrating a variant of the adjustment means shown in Figures 1 and, 2.
In the implementation of the invention according to a preferred embodiment as illustrated by Figures 1 and 2 of the attached schematic drawing ,. the invention is shown in its application to a seat in which a flexible member forming a hammock, in the form of a cushion, 1, at its front end 2 connected to and supported by a thigh support 3 pivoted or elastically mounted.
According to the invention, the cushion-hammock is provided, near its upper end, with a tab 4 fixed thereto by sewing or otherwise, in a predetermined position on the back of the cushion, and this tab 4 is secured to a transverse bar 5 vertically adjustable with respect to the seat frame 6. For this purpose, the crossbar 5 may be provided near its ends with play openings for two guide pins 7 fixed to and extending towards the side.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
top from a cross rail 8 of the seat frame 6.
In addition, the ends of the crossbar 5, or the like, are provided with means, such as plates 9 protruding from this bar, for slidably engaging vertical side members 10, or grooves made therein, for releasing. the guide pins 7 of the tensions when the chair or seat is occupied. In a position or location median of its length, the transverse rail 8 in question is provided with a screw device, such as an eye bolt 11, comprising an eye 12, suspended below the transverse rail 8 and having its part threaded in engagement with a flanged nut.
13, the flange portion of which rests on the top of the cross rail 8. The upwardly protruding end of the eye bolt 11 can be chiseled so as to prevent inadvertent removal of the bolt from the bolt. nut, and it may bear against a recessed stop plate 14 fixed to the underside of the crossbar 5, or the like.
If the back of the seat frame is upholstered or covered, as is usual, access to the eye bolt to adjust the length of the hammock cushion is easily obtained by lifting the entire cushion upwards. high so that the eye bolt is exposed above the armrests of the chair.
In the arrangement described above, the upper part of the seat cushion is directly supported by the crossbar 5, so that when the crossbar 5 is raised or lowered, the upper part of the flexible hammock cushion is. likewise raised or lowered to modify the initial curvature.
In a variant, as illustrated in fig. 3, instead of the cross bar 5, or the like, to which the upper end of the hammock cushion 1 is anchored, movable in an upward direction to tension the cushion, a tab 16 attached to the cushion 1 can pass over a roller 15 or over a bar, and be connected to an adjustable cross bar 5, or similar anchor, which, by means of a screw device 11, is brought down to tension the cushion. In this arrangement, the position of the adjustable transverse bar 5 can be ensured with the aid of guide pins 7 and plates 9 as in the previous embodiment.
The eye bolt 11 passes through a clearance opening in the crossbar 5, and is provided at its upper end with a nut 17 and a locking nut 18, a washer 19, placed under the nut 17, resting on the top of the cross bar 5. The threaded part of the eye bolt 11 engages a flanged nut 13, the flange of which bears against the lower side of the cross rail 8. In In this arrangement, the adjustment of the crossbar 5 changes the effective length of the flexible hammock cushion between the upper roller 15, or the bar which replaces it, and the thigh rest 3, with a resulting variation of the initial curvature of the cushion.
It should be understood that the invention is not limited to the particular embodiments previously described, since any other suitable screw adjustment means could be associated with the upper anchor in any suitable manner. to modify the initial curvature of the flexible hammock member as described.
Further, it should be understood that the invention enables the manufacture and supply of seats or chairs with the flexible hammock cushion placed in the optimum position, and when elongation occurs, the user can easily adjust the following cushion. needs. Still further, if the user desires a greater or lesser depth of the seat, this can be easily achieved by adjusting the hammock cushion as described.
