<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

CONSTITUTION AND ARRANGEMENT OF CARRIER WINGS OVEN NAUTICAL VEHICLES.
The present invention relates to the production and arrangement of water-carrying wings on boats, which are intended to lift, during operation, all or part of the body of the boat on which they are arranged.
In order to satisfy all the conditions imposed on nautical vehicles of this kind during operation, it is necessary that the carrying wings can be adjusted as to their angle of incidence, at least during the stop and, in the case of boats. at large variations in load and speed of movement, it is desirable, moreover, to be able to carry out this adjustment during operation.
For navigation in shallow water, it is absolutely necessary to be able to retract the wings while driving, because of the great plunging depth of the system necessary for reduced speeds. For inspection and maintenance, the wings must be easily interchangeable and lift as much as possible to the water surface. Finally, manufacturing considerations should be taken into account in mounting the wings.
All these conditions have not been fulfilled by the wing carrier systems known until now, because, in general, the latter were raised directly to the structure of the body of the boat or indeed to certain parts of the body of the boat. formed a constituent element of the system of load-bearing wings from a static point of view.
The present invention is characterized in that each load-bearing wing, as well as its support elements and a support resistant to bending and torsion, constitute a statically integral frame which controls the forces.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The position of this frame with respect to the body of the boat can be modified and this body does not constitute by any part a constituent element of the system of supporting wings. The frame can itself be produced in such a way that a fixed plane producing a thrust and serving as a connecting member between the support and the load-bearing wings is directly connected to the support so as to resist bending and that 'it continuously passes from the profile of the support to the profile of the carrying wing.
The wing supports and the fixed planes can have a common connection point on the support and, in this case, these parts can then be connected by flanges. The structure can also be suspended along the axis of the support or along one of the neighboring axes, which can move vertically in fixed guide elements of the boat and be orientable forwards and backwards, while slides provided at the separation of this axis, undergo the forces around said pivoting axis and ensure the approximate parallel position of the set of wings, during movement.
Due to the possibility of vertical displacement of the structure of statically integral carrying wings which does not transmit internal forces on the guide elements, under its load, it is possible in the simplest way to introduce, between the carrying wings and the body of the boat, damping elements which act by opposing the thrust force by exerting a flexion on the carrying wings, against the wave agitation.
The wing sets can be retracted or extended during operation, fully loaded, by a simple means, for example using oil pressure cylinders, and can raise the body of the boat above the boat. surface of the water or put it back afloat, without, during this operation, the thrust effect or the diving depth of the wing being modified or that great efforts occur, as is the case in the arrangements already proposed, which are provided with articulations on the supporting wings capable of being folded.
Conditions of navigation in shallow water where the diving depth while walking must never be exceeded, even slightly, are thus achieved.
The invention is described in detail in the following with the aid of the accompanying drawings which illustrate, by way of examples, some of its embodiments.
Fig. 1 illustrates a set of front carrying wings, seen from the front, and its arrangement in the body of the boat, in section along the line of FIG. 2. A guide element is shown on one side of the figure and an element movable in height is shown on the other side.

<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
At freezes. 19 -la and 2, 1 is the load-bearing surface, which together with the support elements 2, the fixed planes 3 and the support 4 resistant to bending and torsion, produced here in the form of a tube, constitutes a structure statically united. The fixed planes 3, which form the connection between the support 4 and the load-bearing wing 1, are directly connected to the support so as to resist bending and pass continuously from the profile of the support to the profile of the load-bearing wing to place 3â. In the example shown, the supports 2 and the planes 3 advantageously have a common connection point on the support 4. These three elements are provided with flanges 5, which serve to join them together.
The position of the set of carrying wings can be changed relative to the body 15 of the boat. In this form of reaction. ization, the set of carrying wings is suspended on the axis 6 adjacent to the support axis (fig. 2) and this axis 6 can slide vertically and pivot in the fixed guide elements 7 of the boat, made up of here in the form of rails.
In figo 1, the rail 7 is not shown on the right side because it is hidden on the left side by the actuators not shown in this figure.
We see in fig. 6, that the suspension axis 6 preferably comprises ball joints 8 housed in slides 9, so that the axis can be moved in the slides and turned. Instead of the slides, we can also provide running rollers. A second slide 10, which also moves in a rail 7 and which ensures the parallelism of the assembly during movement is provided at the end of the lever 11 vertically spaced from the suspension axis 6. A part of this rail can be mounted to pivot on axis 12 (fig. 2) according to this example, to modify the angle of incidence of the bearing surfaces.
The front assembly support 4 is suspended between the watertight bulkheads 13 of the hull 15, above the bending-resistant part of the bottom 14 and below the part of the deck 15a which receives the trac forces. - tion and pressure (represented by hashes in fig. 1). It can move in slots 16 provided in the side walls of the body of the boat.
The watertight bulkheads are sealed at the bottom, so that the space between the watertight bulkheads can be flooded.
As shown in the drawing, the load-bearing wing assembly is, in the normal position, inclined with respect to the vertical and the axis of suspension passes behind the support axis, so that the resultant of thrust A of the bearing surface passes as close as possible to the axis 6a, so that no moment occurs around this axis and the slide 10 is relieved to the maximum. There is advantageously provided on the axis of the slide 10 or on the connection of the lever 11 to the support tube 4, a theoretical breaking point, which gives way when the bearing surfaces touch the bottom, so that the assembly can be raised and that Damage to the vessel is avoided.
Freezes them. 39 4 and 5 show the rear bearing surface 1 with the support elements 2, the rudder 17 and the support 4 which is here again constituted by a tube, in the form of a statically solid structure and which is suspended , in order to be able to move and pivot in axis 6 behind the stern 18 of the boat body 15. This structure can move in the guide 7, as in FIG. 1. The lower slide is formed by the shaft 19 of the propeller which serves as a guide.
For this purpose, the shaft comprises, on or in the body of the boat, a pivot point with cardan joint. Behind the propeller, there is a bearing 20 articulated on the rudder 17 at 10 and which receives the forces resulting from the resistance of the carrying surface. In this case, the set of carrying wings is vertical, that is to say that the suspension axis is located in front of the carrying axis, or disposed in negative inclination, with respect to the vertical, so that the resultant of the thrust A, as can be seen in the drawing, has the effect of a rearward torque,
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
causing a rearward tractive force in the propeller shaft, thereby advantageously reducing the breaking force in the shaft produced by the propeller thrust force.
The stern 18 is inclined in the direction of the arc described by the connection point 10 of the pivoting shaft from bottom to top, in order to avoid rather large variations in the angle of incidence, during the climb.
In fig. 5, the guide element is constituted by a guide 21, which is supported so as to be able to pivot, on the one hand, on the body of the boat and, on the other hand, on the suspension axis 6. The second guide is formed, as in fig. 4, by the shaft 19 of the propeller which is again connected by the bearing 20 and the articulation 10 to the carrying wing 1 and which can pivot, on the other hand, around the articulation 22, on the body of the boat. This point of connection of the guide to the body of the boat can be made horizontally movable, in order to modify the angle of incidence of the carrier wing itself. In the example shown, the propeller shaft is covered with a sleeve and it is divided, in front of the propeller, into two parts connected by means of a universal joint or bevel gears.
The guide 21 is always vertical whatever its downward or upward position and it little ±, therefore, directly receive the thrust forces. A lock 23 can be provided to modify the angle of incidence during horizontal movement. The guide 21 can also be made significantly shorter and describe, during the displacement of the carrier wing, only a reduced angular oscillation movement. Instead of the propeller shaft, a second shorter guide can be introduced for guiding the unit, with a mobile connection to the boat.
The vertical displacement of the carrying wing is preferably ensured by hydraulic cylinders 24 (figs. 1 and 3) which are preferably fixed to the support 4 and in particular, in the example of fig. 2, to the second axis 6a, while the connecting rod 25 attacks the body of the boat, for example a cylindrical hollow body 26 fixed on the deck, into which the cylinder 24 can enter.
By this arrangement, when stopping the boat, the mud entrained by the water is prevented from attaching itself to the connecting rod.
Due to the fact that during the ascent movement an increase in the thrust force is the desired result, the installation is preferably carried out so that the angle of incidence of the surfaces increases at the start, which is obtained by tilting the upper and lower guide bars 7 and the guide 21, relative to each other. The rear set of load-bearing wings may also rise more quickly or the upward movement may begin before that of the front wing, which produces an imbalance which loads the stern of the vessel and therefore increases the lift. angle of incidence.
To avoid coming into contact with the bottom if the engine stops, the actuators of the lifting device can be put under the action of dynamic pressure and put into action automatically as soon as a speed or value predetermined pressure is no longer reached.
This actuation device may consist essentially of a cylinder or a bellows placed under dynamic water pressure, against the piston or the bottom of which a spring under initial tension is supported ;. when walking slows down, this spring controls the opening of a valve connected to the piston which lets pressurized oil flow to the hydraulic cylinders for lifting! members of the supporting wings, while when the running speed increases and when the predetermined speed is reached, the spring force is overcome by the dynamic pressure and the advancement of the piston reverses the valve to ensure the direction of flow producing the descent of the group of carrier wings.
If the speed is again reduced below the predetermined value, the spring becoming preponderant again causes the carrier wing to pass through the lifting motion.
If the load-bearing wing assemblies are resiliently mounted on the body of the boat to absorb shock waves from the waves, then metal rubber or pneumatic shock absorbers are mounted in place of the hydraulic cylinders 24.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
A flexible element ;, such as an air mattress, which absorbs the flexion of the lifting wing ;, without the need to modify the climb system can also be introduced into the oil circuit of the cylinders. hydraulic dres.
The extension and retraction of the carrying wings can also be effected without the interposition of servomotors, by the direct action of the forces of the water exerted on them. In this case, end stops are provided which can be locked in the lower and upper positions of the carrying wings. When these stops are unlocked, the carrying wings are raised by the thrust forces exerted on them when the angle of incidence is positive, while the carrying wings are brought down to an angle of incidence corresponding to that for which 19, thrust force almost disappears or acts negatively.
In this case, it is possible to provide, on the installation, brake cylinders or friction brakes which slow down the ascent of the carrying wings or better still, the rate of descent of the body of the boat on the surface of the vessel. 'water.
In fig. 4, the propeller shaft is provided with an intermediate support 28, on which is articulated a shaft bearing 27. When lifting the tail wing, the support 28 can be pivoted on the axis 29, in the direction of the arrow, for example by means of the hydraulic cylinder 31, which engages the lever 30. The bearing 27 then slides on the propeller shaft. In order to synchronize the movement of the intermediate support and the load-bearing wing, the two elements can be coupled hydraulically or mechanically, using the corresponding transmission ratios. The intermediate support 28 can also be raised in the same way with a vertically sliding arrangement.
To give the boat its freedom of maneuver during the entire operation of retracting the carrying wings, a wheelhouse 32, connected to the rudder by a torsion member 33 of variable length, is mounted on the body 15 of the boat, on the other hand. above the rudder axis, as shown in fig. 4. This torsion member can be provided with spreadable joints and fold up during lifting. It can also be constituted by a key shaft which moves in the mechanism.
The structure of the carrier wings described creates a new system of aquatic wings with regard to the assembly and the arrangement, by which all the required conditions, as regards the possibilities of adjustment, of maneuvering and lifting during operation and maintenance, are advantageously satisfied whatever the conditions in each case.
The factory construction of the supporting wings, as well as their support and connection elements, is excessively simplified.
The autonomous assembly can be built in series, independently of the body of the boat, without adaptation work in the installations. The installation and removal of the load-bearing wing assemblies is quick and easy, without the need to take the boat out of the water. Due to the possibility of pivoting the assemblies, it is possible to bring them to the surface by rotating them and cleaning them, which could only be done with the old systems on land or in dock.
In addition, the suspension on a pivot axis allows the adjustment of the wing to be adapted to the load or speed of each case and to correct the deformations which easily occur in the body of the boat over a very long period of time. of operation and which influence the angle of incidence of the supporting wings.
The swiveling while walking also allows efficient braking of speed in case of danger. The forward set of load-bearing wings can be brought abruptly to a reduced or negative angle of incidence, thereby forcing the body of the boat to dive when high resistance occurs.
