<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

"Method for degasing solid fuels in a fluidized fuel bed".
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The present invention relates to improvements to the process for degassing solid fuels in a bed of fuels in a fluidized state, which bed is maintained at an elevated temperature promoting degasification, for example at 700-1000 C. This high temperature is obtained by introducing sensible heat into the bed of fuels either through the wall of the reactor or by means of a stream of solid or gaseous matter brought to a high temperature and which must be brought to the bed. continuously .
The high temperature can be achieved in the reactor itself by burning part of the fuel bed with a gasifying agent containing free oxygen.
By introducing fresh matter to be degassed into the fuel bed brought to a high temperature, it may be that, depending on the species of fuel used, the particles of solid fuel to be degassed soften more or less, so that the solid particles adhere to each other and that crusts can form on the wall of the reactor.
In order to avoid this unfortunate agglomeration, it is known practice to inject, by means of a carrier gas, the fuel particles to be degassed into the fluidized bed which mainly consists of hard coke particles already degassed. There is thus a rapid mixing of the particles still to be degassed and the particles already degassed, which prevents agglomeration of the particles. In addition, crusts on the reactor wall are removed.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
led by a good choice of the position of the mouth of the injection tube.
As carrier gas, part of the gas produced was most often used which was returned to the reactor for this purpose or else the fuel particles to be degassed were injected into the reactor by means of another gas, for example steam. .
Now, it has been found that it is possible to use, also as carrier gas, a gas containing free oxygen. By tests whose results.,. are shown in the following table and in which the processes were compared in which the material to be degassed was injected into the reactor either by means of a stream of N2 'or by means of a gas containing free oxygen , we note the surprising yield that the yield '-d'hydrogen CH4 and homologs and unsaturated hydrocarbons remained in both cases approximately equal, so that the fear that the gas, being released during heating of the material to be degassed, either burnt for the most part by oxygen, was not confirmed, although the injection gas contained a quantity of free oxygen,
such that it could burn all or a considerable part of the volatile products in the coal.

Therefore, it is possible to inject the fuel particles to be degassed by means of a gas containing free oxygen without the degassing gas being burned. In particular, this has advantages in degasification systems in which the heat necessary for the degasification is generated in the reactor itself with the aid of a gas containing free oxygen.
In this case, the fuel to be degassed can be injected by means of this gas, which eliminates the special injection gas. This increases the efficiency of the process, since the insufflation of the special injection gas increases the heat losses.
By employing part of the gas produced as an injection gas, it was necessary to first purify the raw gas produced before returning it, as an injection gas, by a circulation pump, by a fan or by the like. ; for this purpose, the gas purifying apparatus had to be especially large in relation to the quantity of gas produced by the degassing process. The disadvantage is also eliminated if the gas stream containing free oxygen is employed as a carrier gas for the material to be degassed.
The great advantages of the invention are manifested, in particular in degasification systems, in which the gas stream which maintains the fuel bed in the fluidized state, at the same time serves as an agent. gasification and carrier gas for the material to be degassed.
In such a system, one can well employ a reactor without grid, which has the advantage that the material to be degassed can be blown freely.

in the fuel bed.
Preferably, the operation is carried out with carbon particles with a diameter of approximately 1 mm and with injection speeds of 5-20 m / sec.
Two embodiments of the method according to the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings. FIG. 1 schematically shows a degassing reactor in which a bed of fuel particles 2 is maintained in the fluidized state by means of a gas mixture introduced in 3. The gas mixture consists, for example, of air. or an oxygen-vapor, oxygen-air or oxygen-carbonic acid mixture, which at the same time forms the carrier gas for the material to be degassed which must be brought to the reactor. The gas produced is evacuated by 4, while the Degassed coke is withdrawn from 5. Figure 2 also shows schematically a degasification reactor 1, in which a fuel bed 2 is maintained in the fluidized state.
A gas mixture containing oxygen and in which the material to be degassed is suspended is introduced into the fuel bed by a certain number of burners 3.
The gas produced leaves the reactor through tube 4, while the coke formed enters, continuously, in
7 via the draw-off tube 5 and by means of the conveyor screw 6.
Via tube 8, steam is introduced into the draw-off tube 5, so that the material at the bottom of the cone 9 and in the draw-off tube 5 is kept in a fluidized state, while the steam at the same time cools the cokes to be discharged.
Even if the degassing in the reactor is not carried out by means of the heat generated, in the
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
bed as a result of combustion as described in the above embodiments, but by means of heat generated elsewhere and introduced into the reactor in the form of sensible heat through the reactor wall or by means of a An inert material brought to a high temperature, it is useful to introduce the material to be degassed into the reactor by means of a carrier gas containing free oxygen. By modifying the quantity of oxygen, this method makes it possible, where appropriate, to vary, in a simple manner, the temperature of the bed in the fluidized state.
With the aid of the above-mentioned degasification-partial gasification combination, it is possible to prepare, at normal pressure, a rich gas, the calorific value of which exceeds 4000 kcal / m3.
