ASSEMBLAGE PAR SOUDAGE BOUT A BOUT. DESTINE NOTAMMENT AUX TUBES A
PAROI -EPAISSE.

BUT-TO-BUT WELDING ASSEMBLY. INTENDED IN PARTICULAR FOR TUBES A
-THICK WALL.
The object of the invention is an assembly by butt welding and in particular an improved embodiment of the welding joint, suitable in particular for thick-walled tubes, which allows, without the use of a protective ring against drops, obtain a flawless execution of the weld seam avoiding defects at the root of the weld.
It has already been proposed to provide the ends of tubes to be welded together end to end with chamfers of different depths, so that between the internal edges of the chamfers an annular surface is formed perpendicular to the axis of the tube. . Between this annular surface and the welding electrode directed against it forms, during welding, a stable arc of light which produces the fusion of the end of the tube less chamfered while the fusion of the end of the tube. sharpened by the strong chamfering occurs slowly and indirectly from which it results that a very good union is obtained by fusion of the two ends of the tube and the weld while, on the inner face, there is produced an excellent recine. slow, free of drops and burrs, slightly rounded in shape.
But for large wall thicknesses, these measurements are not sufficient. The German standard Din 2559 provides for the formation of the tulip-shaped weld seam for large wall thicknesses, which has become necessary in practice due to the reduced use of supporting materials and the least reduction in angles.
Starting from this construction of the weld joint, and according to the invention, one of the parts of the annular edge forming the bottom of the joints is chamfered up to the inner edge of the tube, while the other is left in l state or is only slightly chamfered. By this means, the same favorable conditions are created for the formation of the root of the welding joint

than with the different chamfering of the ends of the tube, already proposed. The advantages of this measure are thus combined with those of the tulip-shaped formation of the welding joint when welding thick-walled pipes.
In the drawing, there is shown, in axial longitudinal section, and by way of nonlimiting example, the welding joint of two parts to be welded together end to end.
The welding edges of the tube ends 1 and 2 are machined in such a way that a weld seam 3 is formed between them, essentially in the shape of a tulip and the depth of which takes up most of the space. wall thickness. Of the annular protrusions 4 and 5 remaining at the end faces of the ends, one of the protrusions 4 is chamfered to the inner edge of the tube. For assembly by welding, the ends of the tube are arranged in such a way that, between the annular projections, there remains a gap of about a few millimeters, for example.
To form the root of the weld seam, the two protrusions 4 and 5 are welded together as described above for differently chamfered tube ends.
