  AMORTISSEUR HYDRAULIQUE.

  Description.

  Conclusions.

  HYDRAULIC SHOCK ABSORBER.

  Description.

This shock absorber is of the telescopic type. It consists mainly of two tubes sliding one inside the other by means of guide rings.

One of these rings is attached to the top of the outer tube and contains a sealing device. The other ring is fixed to the bottom of the inner tube and has an annular extension forming the bottom of the tube.

This bottom serves as a seat for a valve sliding on a third tube fixed to the bottom of the apparatus and surmounted by a head of diameter slightly smaller than the internal diameter of tube 2.

  Operation.

When pushed in, the lower guide ring forms a piston and creates a pressure in the bottom of the device which lifts the valve and forces oil into the pump chamber.

On extension, the valve closes and the oil compressed in, the pump chamber is forced into the annular space between the head of tube 3 and the bore of tube 2. It is therefore this space which determines the shock absorber effect.

The oil expelled from the pump goes down through tube 3, passes through orifices 0 - and returns to the lower chamber where it will be taken up by the pump.

  Remarks.

It should be noted that the lifting of the valve is limited by two or more lugs housed in the tube 2 and the guide ring.

It should also be noted that, in its height, the lower guide ring is pierced with orifices. The space between tubes 1 and 2 is therefore par-

tie of the interior volume of the appliance.

These orifices, as well as the orifices 0, are chosen small enough to keep sufficient pressure in the lower chamber when driving in and thus have good filling of the pump.

  Conclusions.

Single-acting shock absorber (shock absorber effect on extension only) with the following advantages: - No oil pressure on the sealing device.

   - The oil level can vary quite significantly without influencing correct operation, which simplifies filling and maintenance.

   - It is simple (only one valve).
