IMPROVEMENTS IN: WAGONS, RAILWAYS.
In order to allow very long wagons to make turns correctly, the platforms of these wagons are based on swiveling bogies, generally comprising two parallel axles each fitted with two wheels.
On certain networks and in particular on narrow gauge networks such as those of business sites, mines, etc., the track presents curves of small radius, which leads to excessive steering of the bogies.
In addition, the rail connection is often faulty and as in each bogie the axles always remain parallel, it often happens that only three wheels are in contact with the rails.
The present invention proposes to remedy these drawbacks.
According to this invention, the platform of the wagon rests on half-bogies each comprising two wheels rolling on the same row of rails, each wheel being articulated along a horizontal axis to the frame of the half-bogie which frame is pivotally mounted under the platform of the wagon.
In order to combine the movements of the two half-bogies placed in line with one another on both sides of the wagon, the frames of these half-bogies are preferably connected to each other by a bar articulated to each of them.
In the accompanying drawings, half-bogies in accordance with the invention have been shown by way of example.
Figs. 1 to 3 show an embodiment of the half-bogie. Fig.l is an elevational view, fig. 2 a plan view and FIG. 3 a side view.
Figs. 4 to 6 show a half-bogie fitted with a braking device. Fig. 4 is a section along IV-IV of fig 5. FIG. 5 is a section along V-V of FIG. 4 and fig. 6 is a vertical section along VI-VI of FIG. 4.
Fig. 7 is a bottom view showing a wagon equipped with four half-bogies, two of which are fitted with brakes.

Fig 8 is a vertical section along VIII-VIII of Fig 7.
Fig 9 is a transverse vertical section along IX-IX of Fig 80
The half-bogie shown in figs. 1 to 3 comprises two wheels 1 resting on the same row of rails 10 and mounted on axes 2 with the interposition of roller bearings or the like (not shown). The axes 2 are themselves mounted in yokes 3 articulated along horizontal axes 4 on a frame 5. Each yoke is provided with two helical suspension springs 6 surrounding rods 7 articulated on the axis 2 of the cap, each spring being included between a base 8 of the corresponding rod 7 and a lug 9 of the chassis 5. This chassis carries at its upper part a plate 11 and a vertical hinge pin 12 engaged in a bearing 13 placed between two transverse sections 16 integral with the platform of the wagon.
At 14 is shown a cover surmounting the half-bogie and integral with the body of the wagon. A plate 15 fixed under this cover rests on the aforementioned plate 11
In a half-bogie thus formed, the yokes 3 can move around the axes 4, which allows the wheels 1 to remain in contact with the rails 10 regardless of the variations in the profile of the track. This rocking movement of the wheels is damped by the springs 6.
On the other hand, due to the articulation axis 12 the chassis
5 can pivot under the platform of the wagon and follow all the sinuosities of the track very exactly
The half-bogie which has just been described can be fitted with a braking device; one embodiment of such a device is visible in FIGS.
4 to 6.
Each of the yokes 3 carries a brake shoe 18 articulated at 20 to rods 19 suspended at 25 from the yoke. The shoes 18 of the two chases of the same half-bogie are connected by a coil spring 21 which urges the shoes 18 towards their released position.
Each shoe 18 is further articulated at 22 to an angled lever .23 pivoting at 24 on the corresponding yoke 3. The two levers 23 are connected by means of an axis 26 and a yoke 27 to a cable 28 passing through a central channel of the articulation axis 12 and controlled by an appropriate operating member. .
In figs. 7 and 8 we have shown the relative arrangement that can be adopted for four half-bogies supporting a wagon platform.
The frames of two half-bogies placed in line with one another are connected to one another by a transverse link 31 so as to combine the pivoting movements of the two half-bogies.
In figs. 7 to 9, 13 shows the bearing of the pivot pin 12, included between two transverse sections 16 while 33 designates the body of the wagon.
One of the pairs of half-bogies thus reserved is provided with brakes, the other being devoid of braking, but it is also possible to construct wagons without braking or, on the contrary, with braking of all or part of the half-bogies.
There is schematically shown in FIGS. 7 to 9 a possible embodiment for controlling the brakes of two half-bogies located side by side. The cables 28 coming out of two articulation pins 12 passing over idler pulleys 34 carried by the platform and these two cables are joined to the same cable 35 which passes over pulleys 36, 37 and ends in a device control (not shown).
It is understood that the invention is not strictly limited to the embodiments shown, these having been given only by way of example and it is possible, without departing from the scope of the invention, to make any modifications. - construction references to the devices shown.
