Fig. 1 est une vue en coupe verticale d'un premier mode de réa- lisation du couvercle suivant la ligne I-I de la fig. 2;
Fig. 2 est une vue en plan par dessus, avec arrachement partiel;
Fig. 3 est une vue correspondant à la fig.1 d'un deuxième mode de réalisation;
Fig. 4 est une vue en plan par dessus, avec arrachement partiel de ce deuxième mode de réalisation;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

EXTENSIBLE LID FOR CONTAINERS.
The object of the present invention is to provide an expandable cover capable of being adapted to containers of varying diameter and in particular to cylindrical or truncated containers such as saucepans, pots, plates and the like, by applying evenly to each other. closely on the edges of said container.
The cover according to the invention is characterized by a sheet made of an elastic material in the form of a frustoconical sheet split along a generatrix with partial overlap of the two edges of the sheet, this sheet having on its outer edge a cylindrical skirt and by a cap provided with means for maintaining it applied to the opening of minimum diameter of said frustoconical ply
The cover thus produced may include means for resiliently stressing the web so as to bring it to its minimum diameter by sliding the two free edges of the web over one another by increasing their overlap. mutual.
In this embodiment, the upper sheet comprises a slot in the shape of an arc of a circle through which passes a head integral with the upper sheet being placed at the end of the slot to allow;., By a closing force exerted 'on these two nipples, increase the diameter of the cover. With this embodiment the lid rests elastically on the edges of the container.
The cover may also include means resiliently urging the ply so as to bring it to its maximum diameter and locking means making it possible to immobilize the ply at a chosen diameter. '
The means resiliently stressing the ply so as to bring it to its maximum diameter, may be constituted by a spring which tends to bring together two clamping pieces placed on either side of the

The locking means provided to keep the cover at a determined chosen diameter, can be constituted for example by a finger or lug carried by one of the edges of the frustoconical ply and arranged to engage in one of the hollow d 'a set of teeth on the part of this sheet opposite the edge which carries the finger.
The cap closing the upper opening of the frustoconical ply is preferably constituted by a cylindrical cup whose diameter is greater than this opening when the cover has its maximum diameter, this cup being applied to the ply by a connection between it and a rigid disc which rests on the internal face of this same tablecloth. The connection between these two parts can be constituted for example by a spring.
The accompanying drawings show two embodiments of an expandable cover according to the invention. In these drawings:
Fig. 1 is a vertical sectional view of a first embodiment of the cover along the line I-I of FIG. 2;
Fig. 2 is a plan view from above, partially cut away;
Fig. 3 is a view corresponding to FIG. 1 of a second embodiment;
Fig. 4 is a top plan view, partially cut away, of this second embodiment;
The cover is in the two exemplary embodiments constituted by a metal sheet 1 bent so as to constitute a frustoconical sheet which forms the bottom of the cover.
This web 1 is split along a generatrix so as to present two edges 2 and 3 which can overlap at a variable angle so as to give a more or less significant overlap of the two ends of the web. An increase in the diameter of the cover corresponds to a flattening of the frustoconical sheet 1, a reduction accentuates the height of the sheet. This is provided on its outer edge with a narrow cylindrical skirt 4 which fits on a container 5 (mixed line in FIGS. 1 and 3) to be covered. This skirt 4, thanks to the covering of its ends or vertical edges 2a and 3a, closes the container in a sufficiently sealed manner to isolate the contents. It can obviously, if the cover is of a sufficient diameter, fit on the edge of a plate or a dish.
The central hole 6 of the frustoconical sheet 1 is capped by an inverted rigid cup 7 placed on the outside and it is closed on the inside by a rigid disc 8.
In the embodiment shown in Figures 1 and 2, a tension spring, helical 9, is welded at its ends at 10 and 11 on the bottom of the cup 7 and on the disc 8.
These two parts are crossed by a bolt 12 provided with a hand nut 13 adjusted to give them the possibility of moving apart until the cover takes its minimum diameter. By removing the nut 13 and the bolt 12, it is possible to clean the parts 7 and 8 and the spring 9. The action of the latter is such that it tends to flatten the frustoconical sheet 1, that is to say - say to give the cover its maximum diameter. In the exemplary embodiment shown, in order to reduce the diameter of the cover, two buttons 14 fixed on the web 1 or possibly on the skirt 4 are brought together by tightening them between the thumb and forefinger.
The chosen diameter is maintained by a locking effected by engaging a finger or lug 13 fixed to one of the radial edges of the sheet 1, da, s one of the hollows of a toothing 16 cut on the edge. center hole 18.
In the second embodiment are produced on the internal edge of the web and in the vicinity of the edge 2, an eyelet 17 and in the vicinity
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
from the edge 3 an eyelet 18. The disc 8 is stamped in its center so as to form a cup on the top of which is riveted a disc 19. Between this disc 19 and the disc 8 is housed a spring 20 whose The ends are hooked into the eyecups 17 and 18 with spring tension. Under the edges of the plate 19 come to engage the hooks of an elastic cross 21 carrying in its center an axis 22 which passes through the cup 7 fixed on this axis by a soft button 23.
The conical web has, on the other hand, in the vicinity of the edge 2 a circular arc slot 24 through which passes a button 25 integral with the lower part of the web.
A second button 26 is fixed on the upper part of the web at the end of the slot 24. By bringing together, by tightening them between the thumb and forefinger, the two buttons 25 and 26, the diameter of the cover is increased by tensioning the spring 20. When the buttons are released, the spring 20 relaxes and increases the coverage of the two ends of the tablecloth, thus reducing the diameter of the cover which is fixed elastically on the edge of the container 5.
