<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

IMPROVEMENTS TO STAMPS FOR FRAMES.
The present invention relates to stripping devices for cards and particularly to vacuum cleaning devices. The vacuum stripping of cards has eliminated much of the labor and inconvenience of stripping the cards, but the devices require careful monitoring at well-defined intervals according to a schedule, and if the worker, for for whatever reason, is unable to perform the desired operations at the appointed time, the operation of the apparatus is interfered with and one cycle or period of cleaning may interfere with the next.
The object of the invention is to provide an automatic or semi-automatic control of the unclogging in order to reduce labor and avoid the risk of disturbing the operating cycles. The device operates fully automatically under normal conditions. \! but a hand control is also provided for in case of breakdown or emergency
According to the invention, a carding machine is provided with a vacuum stripping mechanism comprising a stripper which performs one stroke and the stroke of which is used to automatically stop the feed and open the suction system. , then to stop stripping and restore power, the stroke of the stripper being controlled in both directions by a solenoid,
itself acting under the influence of a timer in automatic control., or operating manually in semi-automatic control o
The invention is described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:

Figs. 1 to 6 show the device in position with respect to the cylinders 11 and to the comb 12, the cylinder cleaning nozzle being shown at 13 and the combing nozzle cleaning nozzle at 14, the two nozzles being joined in one passage common in 15 (see fig4).
The cleaning is carried out by suction through the nozzles 13 and 14 and through the passage 15 when the supply is stopped. When the latter occurs normally, the passage 15 is cut off the nozzles 13 and 14 which therefore no longer exert 'Clearing action, The passage 15 can be closed or opened towards the nozzles 13 and 14 by a plate valve 16 pivotally mounted so as to rotate about a center between two plates 17, triangular in FIG. 2, pierced one of the outlet orifice common to the nozzles 13 and 14 and the other of an opening towards the passage 150
In fig. 2, the plate valve 16 is closed on the left side, as in the case of the feed, and open on the right side for bleeding.
The mechanism described so far is placed on a carriage 19 which slides on a tube 20 extending over the entire width of the cylinder and of the comber, the tube 20 being fixed at its ends on the frame of the carding machine by the supports. 21. The tube is split at its lower part at 22, and in this slot is a protruding part 23 of the carriage 19, in engagement with the thread of a screw 24 with left and right pitch. In this way, the carriage 19 can move along the tube 20 in both directions without changing the direction of rotation of the screw 24, provided that the protrusion 23 is placed in the appropriate thread; the screw 24 is driven in a rotational movement when the machine is running, by a drive device 25 dependent on the machine and shown to the right of fig.1.
A bar 26, parallel to the tube 20 and to the screw 24 (see figs.
1 and 3) is supported at its ends in supports 27 depending on the supports 21, and can slide between these supports., On one side. \) The bar 26 is connected by a pivot to an articulation 28, connected by another articulation 29 (shown in broken lines in Fig. 3) to an eccentric device 30 carried by a shaft 31 at the end of which is a bevel pin 32, which can be engaged with the corresponding pinion 33 or be moved away from it by the movement of the eccentric 30, caused by that of the rod 26 via the joints 29 and 28.
The pinion 33 is mounted on a shaft 34 which drives the comb from the other end of the machine, and the shaft 31 extends to the fiber feed and controls the feed. Therefore, when the pinions 32 and 33 are engaged, the feed is driven by the shaft 34 of the comber, but stops when they are separated by displacement of the eccentric 30.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The bar 26 carries tabs 35 and 31 shown in solid lines and in dotted lines in Figs. 1 and 3, and is hollowed out by a recess 37 to the right of the cleat 36; when the bar is pushed to the right, this depression passes over the support 27, lowering the latch 36 into the position shown in dotted lines.
The carriage 19 moving to the right in the position shown in dotted lines in figs1 and 3 enters into engagement with the cleat 36 by an arm 38 placed at the front of the carriage, and pushes the bar until the depression 37 falls into the support and moves to one side thus allowing the carriage to continue its movement to the right and to subsequently return to the rear, the cleat 36 then located below the arm 38 and unable to enter into engagement with it.
When the carriage 19 reaches the right end of the screw, it goes back on the opposite step until it reaches the left end, end point the two threads of the aim as a recess- 39 is provided the carriage is automatically returned to the left when it arrives at the right end, but stops on the left and remains stopped until the protrusion 23 is replaced in the thread of the screw.
When the carriage reaches the end of the straight lines, the arm 38 enters into engagement with the cleat 35 on the bar 26 and draws the bar to the left, thus resuming its original position shown in solid lines in figs. 1 to 3o. position is shown with the carriage 19 in solid lines in figs. 1,2 and 3.
The reciprocating movement of the carriage also controls two other movements of the apparatus, one being that which the movement of the bar transmits through the articulations 28 and 29 to the eccentric 30 and to the conical pinion 32
When the carriage 19 reaches the right end and pushes back the bar the left end of the bar is driven to the right, causing in its movement the upper end of the joint 28, consequently pushing the joint 29, and rotating the eccentric 30 so as to separate the bevel pinion 32 from the bevel pinion 33, which stops the regulated supply, as has been said above,
by tree 31 from tree 34 of the comber
The second movement controlled by the reciprocating movement of the carriage 19 is that of the plate valve 16 mounted between the plates of the outlet passage of the nozzles 13 and 14.
This valve 16 is pierced with a hole 39a which opens the passage of the nozzle to the outlet orifice when the plate is in the position of the right side of the pin 2, * and closes it when it is outside the passage, in the position shown on the left side
The plate valve 16 is provided with a tail-shaped extension 40 and two vanes 41 and 42, the "tail" 40 being used in connection with adjustable cleats 43 and 44 on both sides of the machine to reverse the flow. position of the valve whose movement is limited by the contact of the vanes 41 and 42 with stops which can be for example the bolts fixing the plate 17
It can therefore be seen that the valve is closed when the carriage 19 moves to the right, thus cutting the nozzle of the suction device,
and that the feed occurs normally But when the carriage arrives from the right side the feed is interrupted by the movement of the bar, as explained above and the valve is opened so as to allow suction, while the carriage returns to the left and performs the clearance at the end of the stroke, the valve is closed by the contact of the "tail" 40 with the cleat 43, and the bevel gears 32 and 33 are engaged while the bar is pushed back in normal position
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The carriage arrived in this position remains there until a new unclogging is necessary, which is determined by a timer of the appropriate type, which closes an electrical circuit so as to activate a solenoid 45,
the piston 46 of which, pushed forward, enters into engagement with an arm 47 placed at the lower part of the projecting part 23, pushing the latter out of the recess 39 and into the thread of the screw, causing thus the movement of the carriage to the right, movement which continues as explained above.
A device is provided to replace the action of the solenoid by a manual action, in the event of a power failure, or in the event that it would be necessary to perform a cleaning at a time not provided for by the clockwork mechanism.
Figs7, 8, 9 and 10 illustrate a variant of IL-invention according to which the stripping, instead of being carried out from one end of the carding machine to the other in a single operation, is carried out alternately in halves, therefore without having to interrupt the supply, which avoids the connection of the interrupted web.
In this variant, the parts common to the two embodiments are designated by the same reference numerals, but the plate 16 is mounted this time so as to slide and not to rotate between the plates 170 The valve 16 is mounted in so as to slide on the carriage 19 and takes on a diamond shape with a roller or roller 48 at each end.
On each side of the tube is an arm fixed at its ends on the support 21o One of these arms 49 is provided with a projecting part 50 with oblique sides ,, and the other arm 51 is provided at one end with an element. 52 one side of which is inclined in one direction, and at the other end of an element 53 one side of which is inclined in the other direction
In the position of the carriage shown to the right of FIG. 7, the valve is closed since it was closed by the roller 48 rolling on the inclined face of the element 52, when the carriage is advancing by the screw 24. o
When the carriage is driven to the left, the valve remains closed until the upper roller or roller meets the inclined face of element 50 on arm 49.
The roller is then pushed down, in the position shown in dotted lines, and opens the valve which remains open until it is pushed back into the closed position by the inclined face of the element 53 0
It can therefore be seen that during the movement from right to left, the valve is closed during the first part of the stroke; the cleaning is therefore not carried out, and open during the second, thus allowing the cleaning.
During the return from left to right, the valve is closed during the first part of the stroke - therefore no stripping - and open with stripping during the second part In this way, the sheet is detached by half, just like on one side , sometimes from the other, and is never completely interrupted, so that it is useless to stop the supply, and to perform the connection of the two ends of the web after the stripping
The start of the unclogging operation is controlled by the solenoid device already described, with additional hand control if necessary.
Instead of operating as described by half-strokes with a single element 50, several of them can be placed on the arm 49 at the same time as corresponding elements on the bar 51, so as to cause opening and closing. closing the valve at shorter intervals.
