PERFECTIONNEMENTS AUX TRANSPORTEURS, DISPOSITIFS D'ALIMENTATION ET TAMIS
A SECOUSSES.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

ADVANCED CARRIERS, FEEDING SYSTEMS AND SIEVES
SHAKES.
In shaking conveyors of the approximately horizontal aisle type reciprocated horizontally inclined from bottom to top in the direction of the material advance, the corridor is usually supported at certain intervals by flexible members, for example leaf springs, attached to the passageway at one end and to the carrier bed at the other end, so as to eliminate any twisting which may occur as a result loosening of the pins in the connecting rod supports o With this arrangement it is extremely easy to balance the horizontal inertia forces of the corridor by means of balancing wheels in the control unit, but it is not possible to balance vertical forces in this way.
So far, these springs were bolted to a solid foundation, or the transporter was provided with a bed whose weight is relatively heavy compared to that of the corridor, so that the vertical forces are absorbed by the inertia of the seat.
The object of the present invention is to provide an improved construction or arrangement of a shaker conveyor, where the vertical forces resulting from the reciprocating motion of the conveyor are balanced over the entire length of the latter, so that a particularly heavy seat or a rigid foundation becomes unnecessary.
The invention consists of a shaking conveyor provided with devices which impart to it a reciprocating movement and comprise a series of levers, arranged at certain points along the length of the conveyor, which support the latter, impart to it a series of levers. vertical movements during its back and forth movements and carry balancing counterweights which move in substance in a vertical plane during the vertical movements of the transporter and in the opposite direction to these, the mass of each of the balancing counterweight being substantially equivalent to the mass of the part of the length of the conveyor which is supported by these levers,
so that the forces

verticals of the conveyor are balanced over the entire length of the latter by the support levers.
The invention further comprises a jerk conveyor in which the levers are interposed with rubber or the equivalent to pins rigidly attached to the conveyor, and other pins rigidly attached to a stationary bed so that 'There can be no scuffing or noise during the movements of the conveyor.
The invention further includes a shaker conveyor about 20 feet (6 m) long, supported by ten levers or pairs of levers evenly spaced apart.
The invention also relates to a shaker conveyor which receives a reciprocating movement of a cam or eccentric rotating at a speed within a range of 900 to 1500 revolutions per minute and imparting to the conveyor a stroke of 3/16. to 1/16 of an inch (4.8 to 1.6 mm).
The invention further relates to a shaker conveyor the passage of which is provided with openings in one or both sides at suitable points and with deflector plates adjacent to these openings for discharging any desired proportion of the contents. of the hallway through each of these openings.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figo 1 is a side elevational view and Fig. 2 a plan view of one embodiment of the shaker conveyor according to the invention.
Figs 3, 4 and 5 are details of balanced lever mechanisms supporting the conveyor lane, Fig. 3 being in elevation view, FIG. 4 an end elevation showing the passage in section and FIG. 5 a horizontal sectional view taken along the line A-B of FIG. 4.
The corridor a of the transporter is supported by levers b arranged in pairs below the corridor, as shown in Figs. 4 and 5. These levers b are articulated on axes c, fixed to consoles d at - stained on the underside of corridor a and are also articulated on axes e mounted in consoles f attached to fixed supports g.
1 Each lever b carries a balancing counterweight h. The lower part h of the counterweight can be removable, so that it can be replaced by a part of different weight for balancing. The removable part is fixed to the other part by bolts i.
The levers b are arranged at points along the length of the carrier a such that each pair of levers is dealing with only a part of the total vertical force to be balanced. The balancing counterweights h move substantially in a vertical plane in the opposite direction to the vertical movements of the conveyor corridor. The mass of each counterpoint is nearly equivalent to that of the corridor section supported by the connecting rod or lever to which the balancing counterweight is attached, so that the vertical forces of the corridor are balanced along the entire length of the latter.
The levers b can be connected to the axes. ± and e with the interposition of rubber or the equivalent, but one can use levers mounted on ball or roller bearings or on simple bearings tight enough to exclude any noise or scraping during the movements of the corridor.
In a conveyor 20 feet (6 ma) long, ¯ ten pairs of levers b can be employed, each of which therefore only deals with 10% of the vertical forces generated by the movement of the conveyor.
The conveyor lane can be actuated by a cam or eccentric rotating at a speed within a range of 900 to 1500 revolutions per minute and resulting in a stroke of three sixteenths to one sixteenth of an inch (4.8 to 1.6 mm) o Carriers operating at speeds and with strokes of this order of magnitude are less cumbersome than carriers
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
at low speed and long stroke and are particularly suitable for individual control.
The conveyor lanes may be provided with openings m in their side faces, at suitable points, and be provided with deflector plates n, which can be adjustable, near these openings to unload any desired proportion of the contents of the lanes by these openings In this form, the conveyor can be used as a feed distributor to feed a number of machines in parallel from a common source of material.
