<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
un rétablissement retardé de l'équilibre atmosphérique nécessaire à l'intérieur du dispositif;
3) à la fin de la décharge, le liquidé, restant au fond du double siphon, peut atteindre une hauteur supérieure à celle de la colonne résis- tante de la garde hydrostatique en produisant ainsi'une fuite d'air pour le double siphon avant que le niveau nécessaire au fonctionnement soit atteint dans le'réservoir; à cause des inconvénients spécifiés sub 2 et 3, le liqui- de d'alimentation du réservoir ne rencontre pas la résistance nécessaire dans la garde hydrostatique et repasse donc dans le double siphon sans avoir at- teint la hauteur désirée dans le réservoir;
4) puisque le désamorçage du double siphon se produisait à une hauteur notablement au-dessus de l'entrée du liquide dans le double siphon même, la décharge du liquide, contenu dans le réservoir, n'était pas complè- te et une certaine quantité de liquide, toujours le même, restait ainsi au fond du réservoir et, par conséquent, acquérait toutes les caractéristiques antihygiéniques d'une eau stagnante ;
5) puisque le poussoir de commande agissait par dépression, on avait l'impression qu'il était endommagé si on le¯poussait sans le lâcher en attendant la décharge du réservoir ;
6) des décharges automatiques du dispositif se produisent fréquem- ment à cause des limites altimétriques très rapprochées entre lesquelles on pouvait régler la fermeture de l'alimentation d'eau au réservoir au moyen du pointeau ordinaire à flotteur;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
tandis que le -petit siphon 30-31 continue a fonctionner jusqu'à décharger tout lé liquide demeurant encore au fond F du double siphon de déchargeo .Il est évident que le fonctionnement du dispositif reste par- fait, même-si le niveau du liquide dans le réservoir 36 monte sensiblement au-dessus du niveau prévu, puisque dans ce cas la colonne de liquide plus haute, s'établissant dans le ré-servoir 36 au-dessus du niveau dans le tube 6, n'est plus équilibrée par la colonne formée entre 14 et 15 ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

IMPROVEMENTS TO DISCHARGE METHODS AND DEVICES FOR
LIQUID TANKS WITH HYDROSTATIC GUARD.
The invention relates to a method and to a discharge device for liquid reservoirs controlled by a hydrostatic guard,
It mainly consists in making the discharge devices of the type in question comprise a tank divided into two parts separated by a partition with communication openings, one of said parts comprising a double siphon duct, the entrance to which communicates with the liquid reserve while its outlet is connected to the discharge pipe, the priming of the double siphon being obtained by breaking a hydrostatic equilibrium in the second part which forms a whole with hydrostatic guard,
this break in equilibrium being determined by priming using a small additional siphon suitable for reducing the height of the resistant column of this hydrostatic guard.
We already know a control device, by hydrostatic guard, for the discharge of siphons and in particular of those which form part of the flushes of lavatories., This device included a tank whose inlet communicates with a tank and the outlet of which is connected to the discharge pipe, this inlet and this outlet being connected to each other, in the tank, by a double siphon pipe.
The priming of the double siphon, for the discharge of the liquid, was obtained by breaking a hydrostatic equilibrium in a device of :; control called the hydrostatic guard, the guard and the double siphon being placed in communication with each other by openings in an intermediate partition
The rupture of the hydrostatic balance in the hydrostatic guard was obtained by an air depression produced by a control pushbutton.
As a result of this rupture of hydrostatic equilibrium, the height of a resistant column of liquid in the guard was reduced, thus causing, by one of the openings of said partition, the total escape of the air enclosed in the double. siphon and, consequently, the priming thereof and the total discharge of the liquid contained in the tank
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
At the end of the discharge, the deactivation of the double siphon was obtained by a lateral air intake established at a certain height above the entry of the liquid into this double siphon.
This air intake. by its special constitution, allowed to obtain a 'silent defusing and immediately re-established the internal atmospheric equilibrium, at the end of the discharge, so that the hydrostatic guard always contains the quantity of liquid necessary for a subsequent operation.
By this air intake one also obtained, at the end of the discharge, an almost complete emptying of the liquid remaining at the bottom of the double siphon. @
During the practical use of this known device it has been observed that its operation exhibited certain defects, in particular the following
1) using the usual tubes to send the liquid to the tank, it is necessary to cause the first discharge, after the device has been assembled, by water poured into the tank using a bucket to feed the hydrostatic guard so that it is ready for successive discharges.
2) Partial clogging of the discharge tube of the reservoir can cause insufficient supply of liquid to the hydrostatic guard and, consequently,
a delayed reestablishment of the necessary atmospheric equilibrium inside the device;
3) at the end of the discharge, the liquid remaining at the bottom of the double siphon can reach a height greater than that of the resistance column of the hydrostatic guard, thus producing an air leak for the double siphon before that the level necessary for operation is reached in the tank; because of the drawbacks specified in 2 and 3, the tank supply liquid does not meet the necessary resistance in the hydrostatic guard and therefore passes back into the double siphon without having reached the desired height in the tank;
4) since the deactivation of the double siphon took place at a height notably above the entry of the liquid into the double siphon itself, the discharge of the liquid, contained in the tank, was not complete and a certain quantity of liquid, always the same, thus remained at the bottom of the tank and, consequently, acquired all the unsanitary characteristics of stagnant water;
5) since the control pushbutton operated by vacuum, it seemed damaged if you pushed it without letting go while waiting for the tank to discharge;
suction effect, necessary for the operation of the device, could only be obtained by allowing the pusher to return to its initial position
6) automatic discharges of the device occur frequently because of the very close altimetric limits between which the shut-off of the water supply to the tank could be regulated by means of the ordinary float needle;
as this adjustment could undergo certain variations by a progressive adjustment of the obturators, the liquid delivered into the reservoir could reach such high levels that it was capable of destroying the balance obtained by the resistant column of the hydrostatic guard.
The object of the invention is to improve the device with double siphon and hydrostatic guard, of the type in question, in such a way that the above-mentioned drawbacks are avoided.
In particular, the drawback 1) is eliminated by a delay in the supply of liquid to the hydrostatic guard; in the prior device this supply took place at the same time as the discharge of the water from the tank, while in the device according to the invention the supply takes place after the discharge which also makes it possible to remove the disadvantage 2) by modifying the construction in such a way that the supply of the hydrostatic guard is always excessive.
In addition, the invention allows to obtain the evacuation of the excess liquid accumulating at the bottom of the double siphon at the end of the discharge, to
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
using a small auxiliary siphon communicating at one end with the discharge tube and at the other with the bottom of the double siphon. The elimination of the disadvantage 4) is obtained by the elimination of the components for silent discharge which existed in the previous device.
According to the invention, the function of the aforesaid air intake is fulfilled by opening the inlet of water from the reservoir into the double siphon.
The disadvantage-5) 'is eliminated, by the object of the invention, by having recourse to a tappet capable of causing the rupture of the hydrostatic balance in the hydrostatic guard, by a compression causing the discharge of a part of the liquid of the resistant column or by suction, during its return stroke, capable of removing from said resistant column a sufficient quantity of air to trigger The rupture of the equilibrium in the hydrostatic guardo The elimination of the disadvantage 6), it is = - - that is to say automatic discharges because of the altimetric limits too close for the adjustment of the closing of the water of the tank,
is obtained by the rational use of the menisci of the liquid accumulating in the channel of the device and by the possibility of enlarging said channels.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, one embodiment of the invention. @ ...
Figure 1 shows, -in section vertically, the part 'with hydrostatic guard of the discharge device-established according to the invention .. --.-.-
Figure 2 shows, in vertical section, the double siphon part of the same device, this section being made along a plane parallel to that of the section plane of Figure 1 and behind this plano
FIG. 3 shows, in vertical section, the usual reservoir of a flushing device to which the device according to the invention is applied.
The dewatering device, as shown, comprises a batch with inlet A and outlet B, the latter being connected to the discharge tube C. The openings A and B are made in the part of the tank which functions as a double. siphon and ¯ which is shown in detail in Figure 2.
The part of the box functioning as a hydrostatic guard (figures 1 and 3), is connected to a pipe 22 to control the discharge of water from the tank using a pusher 23 (figure 3).
The hydrostatic guard part of the tank is separated from the double siphon part by a partition in which passages are established in order to make these two parts communicate only at the desired times, as described more explicitly below. The hydrostatic guard comprises channels or tubes 1, 2, 3, 4. The tubes 1 and 2 communicate, through an opening 5 (figure 3, with the upper part of the tubes 6 and 7 of the double discharge siphon (figure 2) while the tubes 3 and 4 communicate, by an opening 8 (figure 3), with the upper part of the tubes 9 and 10 (figure 2) of this double siphon. In addition, the tube 1 is connected, by an opening 11 , at the tube of the double siphon, at a level 12 slightly below the upper edge of the base 13 of the elbow formed between the tubes 6 and 7 (FIG. 2).
Therefore, the highest resistant column, which can form in the hydrostatic guard, is that obtained between levels 14 and 15 (figure 1).
A small siphon, formed by the tubes 16 and 17, plunges into the tube 4 of the hydrostatic guard and the tube 17 of the small siphon communicates with another tube 18 and, through an opening 19, with a tube 10 of the double discharge siphon (figure 3). In addition, the small siphon communicates with the control pusher 23 by a tube 20, a connector 21 and the pipe 22.
During the first filling of the reservoir 36, after assembly of the device, the liquid rises in the tube 6 of the double siphon while remaining at the same height of the liquid in the reservoir and, at the same time, the air contained. in this tube 6 can escape freely through the tubes 7, 9 and 10 of the double siphon since these tubes are empty or remain empty after each discharge, as will be seen below. When the level of the water in: 10 tube 6 reaches the height 12 (figure 1) the liquid enters the
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
tube.1 of the hydrostatic guard through the opening 11 and, therefore, it also invades the tubes 2, 3, 4 of said hydrostatic guard.
The water, which rises in tube 6, flows into tube 7 above level 13 and, arriving at level 24, closes the outlet of the air contained in this tube 7, which prevents it reach the outlet opening B via tubes 9 and 10. Then, the water level in the tank
36 rises in relation to the level in tube 6 of the double siphon and the column of liquid, between these two levels, is balanced by the column which forms in tube 9.
The equilibrium in the hydrostatic guard is obtained; on the contrary by the column which forms between the level of the liquid in the tubes 1 and
2 and that of the liquid contained in tubes 3 and 4.
In these last tubes, the level rise because of the air pressure contained in the upper part of tubes 6 and 7 of the double siphon, this pressure also being transmitted to tubes 1 and 2, of the hydrostatic guard by the opening 5.
The maximum height of this resistant column, between levels
14 and 15 of the hydrostatic guard, is slightly higher than that of - the pressure column formed, in the tank 36, above the level of the liquid in the tube 6 of the double siphon, when this liquid has reached a level sufficient to discharge into said reservoir.
However, it happens that while the level of the liquid rises in tubes 3 and 4 of the hydrostatic guard, it also rises in the tube.
16, so that the liquid passes into the tube 17 when it reaches the level 25. The small siphon, formed by the tubes 16 and 17, then starts and tries to completely remove the liquid contained in the chamber formed by the widening of the upper part of the tube 4, - since the flow of liquid out of the tube 6, through the opening 11, is equal to the flow of the small siphon.
Under these conditions, the maximum height that the column formed by Ies tubes 3 and 4 of the hydrostatic guard can reach is no longer represented by that of the column, formed between levels 14 and 15, but rather by that formed. between levels 14 and 26. Consequently, the hydrostatic guard works automatically as soon as the column, which has formed between the: levels in tank 36 and in tube 6 of the double si- phon, exceeds this height, which is much lower, from the altimetric point of view, than that which is reached when the level of the reservoir 36 is at the normal height, and which is also sufficient to cause the discharge.
For the successive fillings of the reservoir 36, a certain quantity of water remains in the tubes 16 and 17 of the small control siphon and consequently in the tube 20, at the time of deactivation, which reaches approximately the level 27 in tube 18. When the liquid rises in tube 4 of the hydrostatic guard, until level 28 is reached, while also having a tendency to rise in tube 16, the air contained in tubes 16 and 17 does not can no longer escape through opening 19 and, therefore, as the liquid level rises in tube 16, a strong column forms between the liquid levels in tubes 17 and 18, this resistant column being able to balance that formed between the level in the tube 4 of the hydrostatic guard and that in the tube 16 of the small siphon.
When the liquid has reached its normal level in the reservoir, the device according to the invention is in the following conditions. In the double discharge siphon, tube 6 is filled with liquid up to level 12, tube 7 is empty to a level slightly above level 24, and tube 9 is filled with liquid to approximately 'at this level 35. In the hydrostatic guard the tubes 1 and 2 are filled with water up to a level exceeding by a few millimeters the level 14, while in the tubes 3 and 4 the liquid reaches up to 15. In the small control signal 16 and 17, the tube 16 is filled with liquid almost to 25, while the tube 17 is completely empty.
Tube 18. is full

of liquid almost to level 2'la
It is evident that the column of liquid, formed in the reservoir 36 above the level-in the tube 6, is balanced, in the double discharge siphon, by the existing column in the tube 9 and, in the guard hydrostatic, by the column formed between levels 14 and 15.
In the small siphon 16 and 17, on the contrary, the column, which formed between 15 and 25, is balanced by the column formed between 27 and 29.
Under the aforementioned conditions, if a slight air pressure occurs in the tube 20 using the control pusher, part of the liquid from the tube 18 is discharged through the opening 19, thus reducing the height of the resistance column. between 27 and 29 and causing the drain of the small siphon 16-17. This results in the discharge of the liquid contained in the tube 4 of the hydrostatic guard, through the opening 19, the tube 10 of the double siphon and the discharge pipe C.
In this way, the resistant column of the hydrostatic guard is reduced and, since this column is no longer sufficient to balance the pressure column, formed in the reservoir 36, the hydrostatic guard intervenes, which has the effect of completely removing the pressure. air contained in the tube 7 outside the double siphon and to allow the expulsion of this air to the outside through the opening 5, the tubes 2, 3, 4 and -an opening 8 for communication between the tube 4 of the hydrostatic guard and tube 10 of the double siphon.
For the embodiment, shown in figure 3, the control pusher 23 is formed by a small piston which can slide in a cylindrical chamber with a slight friction and which is returned to its initial position by a spring, as soon as you stop pressing this button.
During its active stroke, that is to say when it is pushed back by a finger, the pusher produces air pressure in the tube 20 through the pipe 22 and the connector 21, this pressure causing a decrease in the pressure. column of liquid in the tube 18, since part of this liquid is expelled through opening 19. During its return stroke, that is to say when it is pushed back by the spring, the pusher produces a vacuum in the tube 20 and, consequently, the suction of part of the air contained in the tube 170
The discharge device according to the invention is completed by another small siphon, formed by two tubes 30 and 31.
The lower end of the tube 30 is in communication, through an opening 32, with the bottom F of the double discharge siphon between the tubes 7 and 9, while the lower part of the tube 31 is in communication with the lower part. of the tube 10 of the double discharge siphon through an opening 33 and, therefore, with the air released through the Co discharge pipe During the operation of the device, the siphon 30-31 is primed, but since its level 34 is higher than level 35 of the double siphon, it can only be primed by the suction caused by the discharge of the liquid through the tube 10 and the Co duct The double siphon 6-7-9-10 is deactivated when the tank is empty,
while the -small siphon 30-31 continues to operate until all the liquid remaining at the bottom F of the double discharge siphon is discharged. It is obvious that the operation of the device remains perfect, even if the liquid level in the tank 36 rises substantially above the level provided, since in this case the higher liquid column, being established in the tank 36 above the level in the tube 6, is no longer balanced by the column formed between 14 and 15;
Consequently, the hydrostatic guard comes into action automatically without the intervention of the control pushbutton., All this eliminates the risk that water could overflow from the tank, for example due to the rupture of the supply line. or an imperfect operation of the needle which regulates the closure of the feed water. If you wanted a periodic discharge device, it would suffice to remove the part controlling the hydrostatic guard, that is to say the push rod 23, the pipe 22, the connector 21 and the tubes 20,16. , 17, 18, and to adjust the admission of water to the tank 360

According to the invention, it is possible to obtain premature operation of the device, without waiting for the reservoir to be filled.
In fact, if the pusher is actuated while the reservoir 36 is being filled, part of the liquid contained in the tubes 17 and 18 is expelled through the opening 19 and the remaining liquid is no longer. sufficient to establish the column between 15 and 25. Consequently, the small siphon 16-17 is primed and remains primed until the total flow, through the opening 19, of all the liquid introduced into the hydrostatic guard by the 'opening 11, before the' liquid reaches its normal level in the reservoir 36.
In this way it is not possible that a stronger column is formed in the hydrostatic guard than that formed between 14 and 26, and consequently we will have the anticipated automatic operation of the hydrostatic guard and , consequently, the priming of the double discharge siphon.
As goes without saying and as it already follows from the foregoing, the invention is in no way limited to that of its modes of application nor to those of the embodiments of its various parts, which have more especially been indicated. ; on the contrary, it embraces all the variants.
