Le bloc de support décrit ci-dessus est simple et peu coûteux et fonctionne de façon très satisfaisante, mais of- fre 1-'inconvénient que les pièces ne sont maintenues ensem- ble que lorsque le bloc de support a été fixé en position;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

  Sheet metal support block for rolling bearings.

   The present invention relates to sheet metal support blocks for rolling bearings of the kind comprising a pair of half-housings carrying outwardly directed flanges, which are gripped by a yoke surrounding the halves in a circle and now against each other, and also having a base plate which is connected to the other parts when the holder is fixed in position.
The support block described above is simple and inexpensive and works very satisfactorily, but has the disadvantage that the parts are not held together until the support block has been secured in position;

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 For this reason, special measures must be taken, such as clamping the parts together to keep them together during handling until they are assembled.

   The object of the present invention is to construct a device in which the parts can be kept assembled so that they can be handled as a whole immediately after having been assembled in the workshop and before being fixed in position.

   One form of the invention applied to a support block for a ball bearing mounted on an adapter sleeve is shown in the appended drawing in which Fig. 1 is a section along an axial plane and Fig. 2 a view of housing profile. Figure 3 is a section through part of the stirrup.

   The housing comprises two similar halves 1, each having a cylindrical part 2, the inner surfaces of which fit on a ball bearing 3. The combined width of the parts 2 is greater than the width of the bearing so as to allow some lateral displacement of the bearing if necessary. When the position of the bearing must be fixed, a pair of bays 4 is introduced between the side faces of the bearing and lesmoité of the housing of the bearing.

   The bearing is fixed to the shaft 5 by means of a conical sleeve 6, one end of which carries a thicker cylindrical part 7 on which is mounted a closing ring 8. Part 7 forms a seal with the annular edge 9 of the housing anda closing ring 10 placed inside a cylindrical part 11 of the housing having a diameter smaller than the cylindrical part 2 mentioned above.

  A ring 12 is dead at the other end of the conical sleeve. The outer surface of the ring is cylindrical and has

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 the same diameter as the cylindrical part 7. This ring forms a seal with the other closing rings 8 and 10.

  The sleeve 12 is held in position after assembly by bending upward two tabs 22 on the sleeve 6
The housing halves 1 are each provided with a break 13 extending outwardly. A stirrup 14 is placed above the halves of the housing and serves to hold them together and secure the housing to a support. In the form shown, the stirrup is made of a tape whose sides 15 have been folded back so as to form between the edges a channel 16 having a width corresponding to the combined thickness of the flanges. When the yoke is fitted over the halves, the flanges 13 enter the channel so that the halves are held against each other along their edges except for their lower straight edges.

   The base plate 17 is provided with a slot 18 into which flanges 19 of the flanges 13 fit. The ends 20 of the base plate are bent back so as to surround the foot 21 of the base plate. caliper 14.

   When assembling the support, the two halves 1 with the bearing 3, the closing rings 8 and 10 and the rings 4 if they exist are assembled, and the yoke 14 is then pushed over the housing. The base plate is then mounted from the side above the feet 21 of the caliper. During this operation, the base plate must be slightly bent to allow the / edges to pass through.

  However, as soon as the base plate is in its correct position, it moves back so that the flanges enter the slot 18. The entire support block is thus held in one piece.
