On connaît déjà des installations de ce genre com- prenant une poche de coulée fixe et une ou plusieurs lingo- tières horizontales reliés au fond de la poche. Dans cer- taines de ces installations, un lingot-bouchon est prévu dans chaque lingotière pour régler La vitesse de démoulage du métal solidité au début de l'opération ; chaque lingo- tière est munie en outre d'un dispositif de refroidissement et la communication entre chaque lingotière horizontale et la poche de coulée est réalisée. par unconduit rectiligne en matière réfractaire- et de même section que la lingotière ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

installation for the continuous casting of ingots, bars, etc.
The present invention relates to an installation for the continuous casting of ingots, bars, etc.
Installations of this type are already known comprising a fixed casting ladle and one or more horizontal molds connected to the bottom of the ladle. In some of these installations, a stopper ingot is provided in each ingot mold to regulate the speed of release of the solid metal at the start of the operation; each ingot mold is also provided with a cooling device and communication between each horizontal ingot mold and the casting ladle is achieved. by a rectilinear duct in refractory material and of the same section as the mold;
said duct is arranged in a box or case which is applied to the bottom of the tank in an easily removable manner and it comprises a housing arranged coaxially with respect to the nozzle constituting the flow orifice of the bottom of the tank. tank.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
These known installations are designed in such a way that this housing which opens into the horizontal duct is intended, during the outward displacement of the ingot-stopper; to receive a brick which is housed in the nozzle constituting the flow orifice of the pocket and which rests on the ingot-stopper.
The subject of the present invention is means which make it possible to produce such an installation in industrial form. To this end, each case or removable box is supported pays a member sliding in a cylinder disposed on a carriage which can be moved on a rolling path provided under the pocket. installation
The accompanying drawing represents / schematically partly in elevation and partly in section.
The pocket 1, lined internally with a refractory lining 2, consists of a side wall made of sheet metal 3, riveted to a base 4 which can be made of cast iron so that it cannot be deformed. The parts of the outer surface of this base which are called to come into contact with other elements are preferably machined.
This pocket generally constitutes an element separate from its support 5 which is for example made of cast iron / cast steel and on which it rests. the metallic bottom 4 of the ladle comprises in the example shown two openings allowing the flow of metal in two diametrically opposed directions through nozzles 6. The internal diameter of these nozzles will be as large as possible.
A pit 7 is provided under the support 5 and, in this pit, a raceway 8 is provided on which a carriage mounted on rollers 9 circulates.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The whole installation could also be built above ground level.
On this carriage are arranged the cylinders 10 in each of which can slide a piston 11 which can be raised or lowered by means of a threaded rod 12 provided with a flywheel 121.
The upper part of the pistons 11 is of a shape chosen to receive a metal box 13 which it must support.
To this end, this piston comprises a projection 11 * on which rests a projection 131 of the box 13.
Each metal box 13 is intended to receive a refractory brick 14 which is disposed aoaxially with respect to the nozzle or brick 6 and which is provided with an opening emerging in a bore formed by a horizontal duct 141 made of refractory material.
In the example shown, the brick 14 and the duct 14 form one and the same part.
Under these conditions, during the outward movement of the ingot- plug (not shown) filling the cavity of the ingot mold 17 and that of the duct 141, a brick (not shown) housed in the nozzle 6 and resting on the ingot-stopper will fall into 1) bore 142 of brick 14.
To prepare the installation with a view to carrying out an ingoting operation, the bag 1 will be placed on its support 5. The metal boxes 13 will also be placed on the upper part of the pistons 11. The cart is not at this time under the pocket, but has been moved back to a more accessible place in pit 7.
The refractory piece 14 - 141 having been placed in each of the boxes 13-131, the carriage will be advanced under the pocket until a stopper adjusts its position adequately. By means of the flywheels 121, the pistons II and, consequently
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
then through the nozzles 6, will reach the conduits 141 then in the ingot molds, where 11 will solidify under the action of the cooling water circulating in the liners 18.
It will always be easily possible to extract the solidified metal which could adhere to the wall and to the bottom of the pocket after an operation, even in the event that this metal crust is prolonged in the nozzles and the ducts 14. After having lowered the boxes 13, it will suffice to break the bricks 140-141 then to cut, either with a torch or by any other means, the fixed metal coming out of the pocket. The crust can then be extracted by the usual means.
Finally, it must be understood that the construction details which have just been described only show by way of example how the Installation could be carried out, these construction details being able to be the subject of many variations.
