<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Terminal box for electric meter allowing the rapid connection of control instruments.
Among the technical services of electric energy distribution companies, that of. Checking the meters at subscribers is of utmost importance.
The connection of the standard instrument, whether it is a wattmeter or a meter, requires opening the user circuit to allow the amperemeter coil to be inserted therein and requires establishing a voltage bypass which, to avoid the introduction of corrective terms must be made upstream of the voltmeter connection of the meter to be checked.
These operations are generally carried out with makeshift means which vary in each particular case and always by means of manipulations adapted to each of these cases: for example, the conductors are taken out of their normal terminals, several wires are clamped under the same one. terminal, we take a derivation by uncertain contacts, etc.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
If we take into account, in addition, the need to put the circuit thus modified in its original state, it appears obvious that any verification involves a significant loss of time.
In addition, there is the need to temporarily suspend the supply of current to the subscriber and the possibility of connection errors in the devices, which leads to inaccurate readings.
These considerations show the interest there is in realizing the meter terminal box, in a manner which makes it possible to facilitate the operations indicated above, to increase their speed, and not to interrupt the supply of the meter. current to the subscriber and simplify the connection of testing devices.
It should be noted that we know terminal bundles that can be inserted in the circuit, but the use of these devices is not widespread, due to:
1) The repugnance inspired by the need to introduce numerous devices into the circuit.
2) Their price which, because of the high number of meters in service, entails the immobilization of a significant capital.
The terminal box forming the subject of the present invention perfectly achieves the intended object, given that, thanks to the replacement, on the meter itself, of the terminals currently in service, it allows all the operations to be carried out. - necessary to carry out the measurements with the standard instrument, while avoiding the drawbacks mentioned above.
According to the invention, these operations are carried out using the terminal boot of the meter itself, this box being characterized in that the terminals which it comprises have elements arranged in such a way. that they allow the rapid connection of control instruments without having to interrupt the electrical circuit.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
In addition, this terminal box makes it possible to perform the necessary interruptions in the supply of current, while leaving the measuring device in service, which avoids the addition of expensive accessories and the disconnection of this measuring device, which would require protecting the free ends of the conductors.
The description which will follow with regard to the appended drawing, given by way of nonlimiting example, will make it clear how the invention can be implemented, the particularities which emerge both from the drawing and from the text, of course, by- tie of said invention.
Figure 1 is an elevation of an isolated element of the terminal boot; this figure shows schematically the amperometric coil of the meter to be checked and that of the standard instrument.
Figure 2 is a vertical section through the line II-II of Figure 1.
FIG. 3 shows a terminal box, for meters with several disks (three, in this case).
FIG. 4 represents a particular embodiment specially adapted to single-phase meters.
Figure 5 shows a vertical section of the box shown in Figure 4 passing through the line V-V of this figure.
In the embodiment shown in the drawing, above terminal 1 (Figures 1 and 2) is provided a bar 2 which is separated and electrically insulated from this terminal by the insulating part 17.
The two metal parts are connected to each other by means of the screw 3, screwed into the bar of terminal 1 and which passes through the bar 2 through a hole of significantly larger diameter than that of the shank of the screw 3, so that it does not touch the bar 2 when the screw is loosened, which
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
ensures good insulation between the two bars. The screw 3 has a head whose diameter is appreciably greater than that of the hole 18.
By fully tightening screw 3, contact is established between the. terminal 1 and bar 2 through the shank and the inside of the screw head.
The amperometric coil, shown schematically at 6, of the standard instrument can be switched on by two pins engaged in the two holes 4 and 5, or by any similar means.
The derivation of the voltage circuit is taken, on the one hand, from the amperometric circuit itself, and on the other hand by means of a pin through a similar hole made in the terminal of the return wire, as well as will be described below.
The connection of the standard instrument is obviously made by first inserting the amperometric coil, then by loosening screw 3 which acts as the disconnector.
For counters with several disks, as many elements similar to that of FIG. 1 are provided as there are disks.
For example, for a three-phase meter with three disks, with neutral wire, we bring together in the terminal box (fig.) Three disconnecting elements and the terminal for the neutral wire, the latter terminal having a hole 7 for the derivation of the voltage intended to supply the voltmeter circuit of the standard instrument.
In normal single-phase meters with a single amperometric coil, the. screw 3 which plays the role of disconnector (fig. 4 and 5) can be interposed between the bar 8 which serves to connect the terminals 9 and 10 and one of the terminals itself (10), so as to screw into this terminal and pass through hole 18, drilled in bar 8, with sufficient play so that contact is only established when screw 3 is fully tightened. With this embodiment, the terminal boot comes in a shape which is almost the normal shape and can be manufactured.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
economically in special tools; in addition, the terminals of the current circuits retain their simplicity.
An extension of the bar 8 penetrates into the meter through the insulating material of the terminal boot to supply the voltage to the voltmeter circuit which is connected by branch by the screw 15.
The ammeter coil of the standard instrument is connected by means of plugs engaged in holes 11 and 12 made in terminals 9 and 10, while the voltmeter coil is connected by the bypass taken in hole 13 made in terminal 14.
The standard instrument is connected as shown in figure 16.
