"Fusil automatique". 1

"Automatic rifle". 1
The present invention relates to an automatic rifle with a single barrel and aims to reduce the size and the weight of the weapon, at the same time as to provide other particular advantages which will become apparent during the description below. below.
For example, rifles of known types have certain not insignificant defects, including the excessive weight and the load of the cartridges unbalanced with respect to the center of gravity of the rifle; they differ greatly in model and profile from current double-barreled rifles.
The practical consequences of these drawbacks have a certain gravity, provided that the rifle has a certain peculiarity of use and generally requires quite a learning and routine on the part of the hunter, something undesirable for obvious reasons.
These drawbacks are eliminated, according to the present invention, by the presence of a cylindrical cartridge magazine placed in the barrel of the weapon, below the recoil chamber of the barrel, in a position such as the latter, by retreating. , occupies part of this magazine and, by means of its return movement, causes the cartridges to move in the magazine to present one in the space previously occupied, at least in part, by the recoil barrel; the shutter then ensures its introduction into the barrel tube.
To explain how the invention can be implemented in practice, a form applied to the hunting rifle has been described below, but it remains understood that it is given only by way of non-limiting example. We see in the accompanying drawings:
Fig.l: a schematic view of the rifle. Fig.2: a longitudinal section of the part designated at II of fig.l. Fig. 3: a section III-III of fig. 2. Fig. 4: an IV-IV section of Fig. 2 Fig.5: a V-V section of Fig. 2. Fig.6: section of a detail along line VI-VI of Fig.2.
The gun shown in Figure 1 comprises a barrel 1,
a fiat forming a cylinder head cover with different mechanisms 2, a small tube with return spring 3 and a butt 2 '. The magazine 20 of the cartridges (figs. 2 and 4) is constituted by an empty space delimited by a cylindrical wall 15 on almost
its entire extension inside the barrel 2. In this magazine acts a rocket provided with as many cells separated by longitudinal projections 16 'as there are cartridges capable of being contained in the magazine. These cells have a profile of a cylindrical section with a radius corresponding to that of the car keys 17.
The rocket 16 is mounted in the magazine 2 in order to be able to rotate idle around the axis of the chamber 15, which is parallel to that of the barrel 1 and located below the latter, in a position such that the barrel can move back while passing through one of the cells of the rocket 16, the distance between the two axes being slightly less than the sum of the radii of the barrel 1 and of the chamber 15. The barrel 1, the shutter 6 and its support 7 can in fact move back up to '' to be able to gain the indi-

The shutter holder is provided with a connecting rod 9 articulated in
10 and inside which can move the needle of the striker 11. At its end, this rod carries an appendage
12, in direct contact with the rod 13, connected to the shutter return spring 14 6. The latter is housed in the barrel 1 by the bayonet engagement 25 (fig.6) and its rotation, to engage or disengage from the barrel, is controlled by the multiple helical coupling 26 (fig.3).

véoles that the rocket 16 possesses and it is inscribed in a circle biting partly on the cylindrical space 5 where the shutter 6, its support 7 and the barrel 1 move.
Inside the rocket 16 is housed the spring 30 which
is fixed by its two ends respectively to the pivot 29 and to the pivot 32. The first is secured to the spindle 16 and therefore to the part 28, while the second is secured to the

Here is the operation of the various parts of the mechanism described: assuming that all the essential parts of the device are in the position indicated in fig.2, the barrel is moved back by hand, overcoming the resistance of spring 3. shutter 7 remains retained in the position indicated by the dashed line 8 due to the engagement of the projection 31 of the part 28 which is in the position described above.
In order to be able to insert the cartridges, a lever 21 (fig.4) integral with the part 53, mounted loose around the axis of the cylindrical chamber 15. This part 53, by means of the toothed part 27, is used. controls the lever 22 fixed to the window 23. By lowering the lever 21, the latter is brought into the position indicated in dotted lines at 24, thus leaving an opening free for introducing the cartridge which is housed in a corresponding cell of the fuse 16.
This controls the loading of the cartridges on the fuze, which rotates during the introduction of each of them, despite the resistance to torsion of the spring 30, prevented from resetting.

forward by the spring 48, which, with its inclined plane 34 ', allows all the projecting parts of the element 28 to move forward but not to move back.
By rotating element 28, however, the shutter holder would be released which would return to the barrel under the action of the

53 controlled by lever 21 and which temporarily replaces

shutter holder which must thus remain stationary in the position indicated by lines at 8.
Once the last cartridge has been supplied (the fourth in the example chosen), the barrel 1 performs its return movement which, before reaching the limit of its stroke, advances longitudinally, overcoming the resistance of the spring 48, the appendix 39 of the stop 34 which releases the rotary movement of the part 28, therefore of the rocket 16. The latter, however, moves slightly because it is braked.
<EMI ID = 11.1>
Sée itself so that the tooth 34 can no longer gain its original position, but only to approach the projecting part of the part 28 when the barrel begins its return movement. During this movement, the rocket 16 remains stationary, engaged with the barrel 1; but when the latter, in advancing, has reached its stop position, the rocket is free to turn and to carry in the direction of the barrel the cartridge introduced first into the magazine.
During this rotational movement, the protruding part 31 of the member 28 rotates by describing an arc of a circle in the seat 5 and consequently in front of the front wall of the shutter holder 7, always keeping the latter stationary in the position indicated in lines in 8 throughout the operation, while the fuse rotates the tooth 34 abandoned by the barrel; the latter regains its original position and, once it has reached this position, it limits the rotational movement of the rocket to a single cartridge; but, before the end 31 approaches the tooth
34, the next cell of part 28 merges with the lower axis of the seat 5 and, at this moment, the shutter is released and is triggered forward under the action of the spring
14, pushing into the barrel the cartridge which appears in
chamber 5 and allowing it to gain the position indicated in figure 2.
The rifle is thus ready to fire: indeed, if the trigger is pressed, hammer 50 will strike the end 35 of part 11, which in turn actuates firing pin 52.
Under the reaction of the discharge, the barrel moves back, the shutter holder 7, again pressed by the projection 31, is driven into the chamber 5, and the barrel, under the action of the spring 3, advances again to its position stop. Hardly the movement

recoil and return of the barrel, and it closes when the tooth 43 of the barrel, at the end of its return stroke, presses the head 44 and the spring 45, thus releasing the window from the pressure of the sector 36, and leaving it / closing under the action of a small spring provided for this purpose, and not shown.
The barrel, having performed its maximum recoil, frees itself from the shutter 6 which remains engaged by the point 31 of the part
28.
The case of the discharged cartridge remains hooked by
the spout 37 shutter holder 6 but, pressed on the opposite side by

ture provided by the lifting of the window 23, which is then open, as described above. During the retreat,

As long as the shutter holder 7 remains stationary, retained by the projection 31, the shutter 6, while rotating, moves forward, releasing

the ejector, which, under the action of the spring 47, pushes the bottom of the cartridge which leverages the spout 37 and is forced to be triggered when leaving the barrel.
The lever 47 (fig.3), which can be controlled from the outside by hand, can hook one of the projections of the rocket 16 and stop its rotation; this blocking allows only one shot to be fired. The spring needle 39 serves to fix the two extreme positions of the lever 42.
The button 41 (fig. 3) is used to push the sector 36 to lift the window 23 and let see the interior of the chamber 5.
If we then want to extract a cartridge from the magazine, a simple pressure and a rotation of the lever 21 integral with the part 53 (fig. 4 and 5) is sufficient. End 54 of the room

of the inclined plane 34 ', the end 54 is found to correspond to
a cell 34 "of the part 34, so that the latter abruptly advances and stops the next projection 31, thus limiting the rotation of the element 28 and of the fuze 16 to the angle corresponding to a single cartridge. end 54 is articulated to a catch (detail not shown for simplicity), by which the part 53 and the lever 21 can move back under the action of a return spring not shown and, at any pressure on the lever 21, the fuze moves back in a similar way for a cartridge. The part 53, through the intermediary of the tooth 27 and the part 22, opens at the same time the window 23
