<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>

These objects and characteristics of the invention and others still emerge from the following description relating to two embodiments of the invention shown in the appended drawings, it being understood, however, that these drawings are given only by way of reference. example in no way limiting.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view partially in section of an electro-hydraulic servo or control apparatus constructed in accordance with a first embodiment of the invention.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Figure 2 is an enlarged detail view of part of the construction shown in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a section taken substantially along line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a view, similar to Figure 2, 'of a variant thereof.
Figure 5 is a view similar to Figure 1 of another embodiment of the invention; and
Figure 6 is a section taken substantially along line 6-6 of Figure 5.
Referring to Figure 1, the apparatus according to the embodiment shown therein roughly comprises a variable phase drive motor 10, a screw forming the pilot valve drive 12. , a tubular member 14 / pilot valve, a 'motor' piston 16, an autosyn servo drive member 18, a servo or autosyn 20 and an output control lever 22 .
More specifically, the embodiment of Figure 1 comprises a housing body 24, comprising; arranged successively along the latter from one of its ends, from left to right, as shown, in the order indicated, opposite side openings 26, a partition 28, and a cylinder 30 having an orifice of side inlet 32 for pressurized fluid, and a closure 34 for the left end of the housing body 24, as shown.
A housing member 36 comprises a closed end 38 fitting into the right end of the body 24, a mounting housing part 40 located at its other end and an intermediate wall 42 cooperating with the closed end 38. so as to form a chamber 44 comprising a lateral discharge orifice 46.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The synchronous servo-control device located in part 40 comprises a rotor shaft 48 capable of being controlled through a seal 50 provided in the wall 42.
The motor 10 comprises a shaft 52 on which it is mounted, said shaft being able to drive through the closure element 34 a shaft 66. The lever 22 comprises an arm 54 projecting laterally from one side of the motor. housing body 24 /, the end of which appears as shown in the figure ;, and a fork 56 surrounding the housing body, this fork comprising branches 58 passing in front of the openings 26 and mounted pivotably on said body, for example by means of of a shaft or pin 60, on one side of the housing body, in particular the underside of the latter, as shown, opposite the arm 54.
The tubular pilot valve element 14 comprises an internally threaded portion 62 located near the motor 10 and cooperating with a screw 64 integral with the shaft 66 by which it is connected to the motor shaft 52.
The piston 16, in the cylinder 30, is provided between its ends with a compartment 68 in communication with the pressure inlet orifice, and has a central bore 70 thanks to which this piston slides axially on the pressure element. valve 14. The piston includes a hollow extension 72 and a tubular rod member 74 extending the bore 70 on either side of the piston, through the septum 28 and the end wall 38, respectively. A member 76, fixed to the extension 72, extends laterally on either side of the extension 72, through the openings 26 and is pivotally connected to the branches 58 of the lever 22.
Several pairs of passages 78 and 80 each forming a passage between the valve insert 14 and the cylinder 30 on one face of the piston 16 and several pairs of passages
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
The like 82 and 84 and each forming a passage between the valve member 14 and the cylinder 30 on the opposite side of the piston are provided in the piston 16.
The extension 72 and the rod 74 respectively comprise orifices 86 and 88 for exits from the cylinder.
The valve element 14 has lateral outer recesses 90 and 92 forming passages on the valve element capable of alternately opening and closing the passages 80 and 84 of the piston, and orifices 94 and 96 capable of closing. and alternately opening cylinder outlets 86 and 88, respectively, to permit discharge of fluid through and along valve member 14 to chamber 44, and discharge channel 46.
A large pitch screw and nut connection 98 and a ball bearing is provided as best shown in Figures 2 and 3, between the rod member 74 and the shaft 48 of the servo apparatus 20.
In operation, if the remotely placed control autosyn is moved to a new position, the motor 10 is forced to rotate in the proper direction in order to correspondingly drive the pilot valve 14 through the injection. - via the screw and nut connection 62 and 64.
The movement of the pilot valve 14 from the illustrated zero position forces the working fluid to flow to the desired side of the piston 16 in order to produce pressure on that side, and connects the opposite side of the piston. to the drain hole.
The piston 16 moves the lever 22 and acts through the long drive screw connection 98 so as to rotate the shaft 48 until the servo device 20 is again on. tuning with the autosyn sender, an action that suppresses the control signal to motor 10. The motor stops, valve 14 stops, and the
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
piston 16 stops in a new position so that its orifices are covered by the side recesses on the pilot valve 14.
As shown in Figure 4, the shaft 48, instead of being driven by the piston rod 74, as discussed above, can be driven directly by the valve member 14.
In Figures 5 and 6 is shown an alternative embodiment of the servo or control apparatus using a rotary type fluid motor instead of the linear type discussed above. The motor 10 is connected by a gear mechanism 100 to a synchronous servo device 20, which may be of the type shown in the US patent? 2.269.902 ;, so as to drive it to the zero position, that is to say so as to suppress or reduce] zero the deviation signal between its electrical signal and an input signal coming from a source which produces an output signal, which depends on the displacement of the final control element 102.
The deviation signal is sent to an amplifier 104, the output signal of which controls the action of the motor 10 so as to make it operate as discussed above.
A rotary valve stem 106, connected to a shaft 108, can rotate within a valve sleeve 110. The hydraulic motor housing 112 is provided with a pressure line 114 and a discharge line. 116 related to. a source of pressurized liquid and a sump respectively. The vane-shaped radial pistons 118 are connected to the sleeve 110 so as to move therewith between the fixed radial separators 120, acting as cylinder heads so as to develop torque.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
Valve 106 contains two pairs of pressure slots 122 and a pair of purge or discharge slots 124. Sleeve 110 has four longitudinally spaced radial holes 126, the inner ends of which cooperate with valve slots 122 and 124. so as to connect the opposite faces of the radial pistons to the pressure duct and to the outlet duct so that the sleeve 110 follows the movements of the rotating rod 106.
The sleeve 110 is connected to a planetary toothed wheel 128 which engages the planet pinions 130 rotatably mounted on the terminal control lever 102, the planet wheels 130 also engaging an annular ring gear so as to provide a reduction stage with a planetary mechanism in order to that lever 102 moves with increased torque through a smaller angle than paddles 118.
The end of the sleeve 110 is connected to the outlet through holes 134 formed longitudinally in the valve stem 106, and connected to the discharge slots 124.
The apparatus of Figures 5 and 6 differs from the apparatus of the preceding figures as shown, in that the synchronous servo device 20 is directly driven by the motor 10, instead of by the piston 16, with a the resulting increase in stability in the combination comprising the motor 10, the synchronous servo device 20 and the rotary valve 106, which would otherwise tend to. give rise to a high frequency oscillation, for example of the order of twenty cycles per second, by receiving a sudden shock or pulse.
Such stability is also obtained with the embodiment of Figure 4.
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
However, according to the invention, any of the servo connections can be made either with rotary devices or with linear devices.
Although various embodiments of the invention have been illustrated and described, several modifications in the shape and relative arrangement of parts, which will now be apparent to those skilled in the art, can be made without changing the mind. of the invention nor to go beyond its domain.
