<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

"SEOURITE VALVE".
The present patent relates to a safety valve intended to be inserted in a pipe for a fluid, for example gas, serving lighting, heating, household or industrial appliances, so as to avoid, after a significant drop in pressure or total drop in pressure, the return of gas to the devices of use envisaged above, possibly remaining open by mistake, forgetfulness, negligence or distraction, and thus make impossible cases of asphyxiation, explosions, or other accidents, when pressure is restored, as a result of gas flow.
The envisaged valve will be required in pipelines serving gas boosters or extractors.
To this end, the invention provides a valve interposed in the pipe for using the fluid, such as gas for example, before or after a meter or before a device for using gas, said valve not being able to be moved, oonséquément deliver switch to gas, only by an intervention of an external force, for example manual which is replaced by the
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
gas pressure when it is sufficient. In this way, as long as the gas pressure has not stabilized within certain limits, it is impossible for the valve to remain open and consequently, the user, informed of the situation, will take the precautions required by this situation.
To achieve a valve operating under the conditions stated above, the valve stem is connected to a deformable membrane = one side of which is subjected to the pressure of the fluid and the opposite side to atmospheric pressure, and its extension beyond of the envisaged membrane, to a crank arm or a lever forming a support capable of oscillating on an axis, said support being constituted by, or carrying a tube or ohenal or the equivalent in which a mobile mass can move freely such for example a ball so that when the pressure drop has occurred, the tube driven by the valve drop,
rocker thus causing its movable mass to come to take position at one of the ends of the tube and thus come to accentuate the load on the valve which will remain closed. If the pressure of the fluid is restored, the valve will nevertheless remain closed, unless a thrust exerted by hand or by any other means on the tilting or pivoting device comprising the tube envisaged, does not cause it to tilt. the opposite direction and thus allow the pressure of the fluid to act on the membrane which, by lifting, replaces the force supplied by the hand. Consequently, this force can cease, because the ball or the movable mass is returned to the opposite end of the tube, a little beyond the pivot axis of the oscillating or pivoting device envisaged.
If a drop or a significant drop in pressure occurs, the membrane and the valve descend and their drop causes the tube to tilt, bringing the mobile mass envisaged to the other end of the tube, or its position causes an overload on the valve capable of keep the latter closed until further intervention from the outside.
In order to better emphasize the above discussion, the
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
accompanying drawings show by way of explanation and without limitation a safety valve made in accordance with the present patent,
For this purpose, fig.I shows a sectional elevation along A-B fig.2, in such a safety valve arranged to be interposed in a straight oonduite.
Fig. 2 shows a plan view of the upper part of the safety valve of fig. I, with the protective cover assumed to be removed.
Fig. 3 shows a sectional elevation through a safety valve arranged to be interposed in a pipe at right angles.
Referring to fig. I and 2, 1 represent the body of the safety valve 5 of which 30 is the seat established on the partition 4 of the valve body envisaged. 2 shows the fluid inlet tubing and 3 the outlet tubing. In the internal bottom of the body I is disposed a bush 7 in which the lower end of the rod 6 of the valve 5 is well guided. This rod 6 extends above the valve 5 and is provided with a membrane. 8 of suitable nature and fluid-tight, for example gas-tight. Two eorous 9 attach the membrane 8 to the rod 6.
On the other hand, the membrane 8 is clamped at its periphery between the annular face 24 of the body I and the corresponding annular face of a ring or ring 22 held on the body I by a series of screws or bolts 33. , On this ring 22, two 'supports 21 have been added or added to the upper part of which is arranged a pin 18 on which rests by means of a small nozzle 19 the tilting or pivoting device 35. Cedispositif 35 tilting or pivoting can be done in many ways. In the example shown, it comprises, in addition to the support 35, a closed tube 15 in which a ball 16 constituting the movable mass can move from one end of the tube 15 to the other.
In its lower part, the support 35 is provided with a lug 17 integral with the nozzle 19 engaged on the axis 18, on either side of this nozzle 19 are arranged two other tuselures 20 intended to hold
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
eorreotement in a vettical plane the angular displacement of the tilting or pivoting device 35, and of another tab 14 provided with a slot 13 dans.laquelle is engaged the pivot or journal 12 on which is articulated the upper end of an arm 11, the lower end of which is for example engaged on a thread 10 of the end of the rod 6, in order to mechanically connect the valve 5 and the diaphragm 8, to the tilting or pivoting device 35 described above which is provided in addition,
a threaded rod 25 on which the adjustment counterweight 26 can be moved and the free end 27 of which constitutes the place where the action of the external force is exerted to cause the device 35 to swing into the position according to which the valve is lifted (open).
A cover 28 provided with a slot 29 for the passage of the outer part 27 of the rod 25 is fitted on the periphery. laughter of the ring 22 to protect the mechanism.
In fig.3 the safety valve 5 is arranged in a valve body 31 of which 32 is the inlet pipe and 33 the outlet pipe. In the body 31 is provided a central bush 34 for guiding the stem 6 of the valve 5, of which, as above, the circular shoulder 30 forms the seat.
All the other elements or parts are the same as in the case of Figs. I and 2.
Considering the description above, the function is understood ai.
96ment,
Referring to Figs. I and 3, the valve 5 is closed due to the fact that, considering the position taken by the tilting or pivoting device 35, the ball 16 loads, through the intermediary of the arm II and the rod 6, the valve 5 which cannot, because of this additional load, be lifted despite the normal pressure of the gas. If now the end or the pusher 27 is pushed along arrow X with the finger 27, the tilting or pivoting device 35 is brought into the position shown in broken lines in FIG.
It will be noted that the mobile mass or ball 16 has moved
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
by rolling to the other end of the tube 15 or it remains held as long as the pressure of the finger remains exerted on 27, or as long as the gas, if it has sufficient pressure on the membrane 8, can replace or substitute for the action first exerted by 27 having aimed to lift the valve 5.
In this case, the pipeline is in service, but if the gas pressure drops or stops suddenly, the pressure on the diaphragm 8 weakens and the valve system 4, diaphragm 8 and rod 6 with its appendix II loosens causing by 12 the pivoting of the device tilting or pivoting about the axis 18, from where the movable mass 16 moves towards the other end of the tube 15 or its immobilized position then the valve 5 in the closed position preventing the gas from circulating . '
As can be appreciated, alternative embodiments can easily be envisaged. Thus, the arm II could be replaced by a small connecting rod articulated on the top of the rod 6, and the deformable membrane 8 by an equivalent device.
The tube 15 could be made of glass, contain a mass of meroure and be secured to a support 35 comprising the legs 14 and 17 and provided with the rod 25-27, attached or not.
The mobile mass could also consist of a weight sliding on a rod or a wire stretched between the ends of the support 35:
The valve 5 could be provided with a conical periphery resting on a corresponding seat of the body I or 31,
The tilting movements of the tilting or pivoting device 35 can be controlled remotely by light or acoustic signals or both at the same time by operating, by moving the tilting or pivoting device 35, the closing or covering of electrical circuits. appropriate for this purpose,
Likewise, the thrust on 27 can be obtained remotely by an electrical or mechanical control.
The dimensions of the envisaged device will be determined by
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
relation to the importance or the value of the section of the pipes which it will be called upon to control.
The nature of the materials for constituting the apparatus will obviously be chosen in relation to that of the fluid to be controlled.
In summary, it is to be considered as coming within the scope of the present patent, a safety valve characterized by the following:
CLAIMS
I) Safety valve intended to be inserted in the pipe for using a fluid, characterized in that it can only be lifted (opened) by the intervention of an external force on a tilting device or pivot comprising a movable mass, mechanically connected to a rod integral with one or an equivalent deformable membrane device, of an appropriate nature, and the envisaged valve and cannot be kept raised (open)
that when the pressure of the fluid to be controlled on the deformable membrane is sufficient to immobilize in this position the tilting or pivoting device, the mobile mass of which is then kept displaced at one end of its stroke, and in that the envisaged safety valve closes when the pressure of the fluid falling the membrane moves in the bottom causing the tilting or pivoting device in an angular displacement causing the displacement of the mobile mass at the other end of the device and thus an additional load or additionally capable of keeping the safety valve closed despite reestablishment of normal fluid pressure.
