<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

"Device for obtaining a resistant corrugation on endless wires".
In order to obtain a resistant corrugation effect on an endless wire, it is known that it is common practice to over-twist this wire, to fix it in the over-twisted state and then to untwist it. For the sustortion, use is advantageously made of so-called false-twist devices such as those described, for example, in English Patents Nos. 424,880, 442,073, 464,981, in French Patent No. 884,965 and in Belgian Patent No. 457,727. it has now been observed that the undulation effect obtained by the devices employed hitherto decreases again following an extension of the wire which has again been over-twisted.
The object of the present invention is to avoid this inoon-
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
venieat and it relates to a device for obtaining a resistant corrugation on endless wires by transient over-twisting of the latter between two fixed points by means of a twisting device arranged between the two aforementioned fixed points, said device being characterized in that the distance between the twisting device and the second fixed point is chosen so that the thread travels a distance as short as @o: sible in the stretched and untwisted state.
It has been surprisingly found that with a device according to the invention, it is possible to obtain a much more pronounced and more resistant corrugation, than has been the case hitherto.
The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
FIG. 1 is a general schematic view of the device.
FIG. 2 is, on a larger scale, a view similar to that of FIG. 1, in which is indicated the arrangement of the device situated in the vicinity of the torsion device and of the second fixed point, in relation to a diagram showing the twist of the wire as a function of the length s.
According to the device shown schematically in Figure 1, the wire F moving in the direction of the arrow between the fixed points 1 and 2, which are formed in the case represented by the pairs of cylinders W1, W2, is temporarily over-twisted. using the torsion device D. The distance b between the fixed point 1 and the torsion device D serves as the milking distance .ent for fixing the corrugation and can vary between about 0.5 and 10 meters depending on the type of treatment - fixing and following the speed of passage of the wire. The twisting device D, shown by way of example, comprises a roller
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
guide R mounted on a axis A occupying a position transverse to the wire F. The thread F is wound once on the roll R.
As it can easily be seen, the wire F finds, in painting 2, the same original twist as in point 1.
From the ratio, shown schematically in FIG. 2, between the torsion b and the distance a between the torsion device D and the fixed point 2, it appears that the torsion decreases rapidly immediately after the torsion device D. The wire F is therefore strongly over-twisted over the distance a and the undulation is, as a result of the tension of the wire prevailing over this distance, again partial slow reduced. Under these conditions, the distance a between the torsion device D and the fixed point 2 is chosen, as shown in FIG. 1, so that the yarn travels a distance as short as possible in the stretched and untwisted state.
Thanks to this determination according to the invention of the distance a, it is therefore possible to limit the tension of the untwisted yarn or yarn F to a minimum, so that it is possible, in this way, to obtain a :), undulation effect a substantially more pronounced and stronger thread than with the devices known until now. As, in false-twist devices, the tension of the yarn between the torsion disc and the second fixed point is as great as possible, the aforementioned reduction of the waving effect by subsequent extension thread is often very important.
It has been found that it is advantageous to give the distance a between the torsion device D and the fixed point 2 a length of 5 to 50 µm. In many cases, it even turns out to be appropriate to bring the torsion device D closer to the fixed point, until the distance separating these two elements is no longer than a few centimeters. Distances exceeding 50 cm
