<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

"Electric heating system for buildings".
The invention relates to an electric heating system for buildings and more particularly to heating systems using a liquid as a heating medium, and it is an object to provide an improved electric heating system, which can easily be installed. in new or pre-existing buildings, which is economical in current consumption and which does not require large diameter pipes for the transmission of the liquid medium and the operation of which, moreover, can be made relati- foolproof and automatic.
According to the invention, an improved electric heating system for buildings using a liquid as a heating agent or vehicle, is characterized in that there is provided an electric heating device or means for heating the liquid agent in a plurality of points of the system and a device or means for causing the forced circulation of the liquid agent in the system.
The invention will be described below with particular reference to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a general arrangement view showing somewhat schematically the improved electric heating system installed for heating a two-storey building.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary view, on a larger scale, showing in more detail how to incorporate an electric heater of the immersion heater type with a hot liquid heater used in the arrangement of the heater. figure 1.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Figure 1 is a diagram illustrating the remote control system used in connection with the arrangement of Figure 1, with the corresponding electrical circuits.
A water radiator 1 of normal construction is placed in a building at any place where heat is required, and below each radiator 4 is an electric heating device or means which is of the type immersion liquid heater generally designated by the numeral 2 'The resistor 5a of a liquid heater 2 is placed in a tube 6 which, in turn, is surrounded by a heating tube. - tection provided with an internal lining 8 of a material of low caloric conductivity, that is, for example, asbestos wool or. glass wool, packed between tube 6 and tube 7.
At one end, the tube 6 is in communication with an inlet section of tubing 9, coming from an anterior part of the system and with the usual riser intake tube 4a of a radiator 4.
In the tube 6, between its ends, a perforated baffle 6a is provided, the usefulness of which will be described below.
The output of a radiator 4 is brought by a section of pipe 10, which passes respectively through the tube 1 and the tube 6, but which has an opening 10a which opens inside the corresponding tube 6, so that the liquid heater 5 can be considered as connected in parallel to water heaters 4.
Each water radiator 4 is provided with the usual shut-off valve 4b. The inlet of the pipe 2 is connected to the exhaust of a pump 11 arranged to be actuated by an electric motor 12, while the return section of the pipe is connected to the inlet of said pump 11.
The arrangement of the opening 10a, opening into the tube 6, ensures a positive circulation of water through the radiator 4 since the pump 11 is, by this arrangement, made capable of exerting a more or less full effect of suction on the water flowing through the radiator 4, at the outlet of said radiator.
Near the inlet of the pump 11, there is provided an adjustable thermostat 13, of standard type, which is associated with a traction relay switch 14, of known construction, for controlling the circuit connected to the pump.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
electrical network.
The pipe 9 is in communication with a collecting tank 15. by a check valve 16, and this pipe 2 is also in communication, under the valve 16, with an expansion pipe 9a, opening into the collecting tank 15. The latter is supplied by the main water pipes 15a and provided with a ball control valve of a known type, not shown in the drawing, and the usual overflow pipe 15b.
Each of the immersion heaters is electrically connected with a fuse 17 in a control box 18 which is located at a predetermined control location.
The switch controls for the immersion liquid heaters 5 and for the electric motor 12 are associated with a time switch 19 controlled by a clock movement, of known model, which is also placed in the control box 18. The time switch 19 is associated with a control switch 20 to turn the control by clockwork movement on or off, as desired.
Since the electrical apparatus is of known construction and the electrical circuit arrangements follow normal practice, a detailed description is not necessary and it will suffice to specify that the conductors coming from the thermostat 13 are connected to the terminals. terminals 13a of the CONTROL box 18, according to figure 3, and that in this figure, reference 21 indicates the mains switch or main switch, reference 22, the mains fuses, reference 23, the circuit fuse passing through the time-controlled switch mechanism, the reference 24, the fuse in the circuit of the electric motor 12, and the reference 25 a switch to arbitrarily complete the circuits passing through the liquid heaters 2 and the electric motor 12.
The control box 18 is of the type in which the opening of the cover 18a simultaneously causes the rupture of all the electrical circuits.
Assuming that switch 21 is in the circuit off position, the operation of the invention will be as follows.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The thermostat 13 is set to close or open the circuit passing through the liquid heaters depending on whether the temperature of the water in the pipe near the inlet of the pump 11 exceeds the predetermined temperature according to the setting of said thermostat. 13, or becomes lower than this temperature.
Switch 25 is then operated to complete the circuit passing through the liquid heaters 1 and the motor 12 of the pump, which causes the pump to come into action and circulate the water through the piping 9 and the tubes. 6. During its passage through the tubes 6, the water is heated by the liquid heaters, by immersion 5, and if the valves 4b of the water radiators 4 taken in particular are open, the heated water circulates in the radiator 4 , as in a normal water heating system.
If the radiator valve 4b is closed, the water passes through the corresponding tube 6 and is subjected to heating, while the restriction to overflow caused by the perforated baffle 6a ensures that the water is kept in the tube for a period of time. time, which guarantees heating without involving any heating of the room in which the radiator 4 is located, closed, since the lining 8 prevents any heat radiation from the tube 6.
When the predetermined temperature is reached, the thermostat 13 switches off all the heaters 5, until the temperature falls below the predetermined number. However, the pump 11 in the meantime continues to circulate the liquid in the system. If a time control is required, the control switch 19 is set to close or open all circuits at the scheduled time and the switch 20 is operated to turn the time control switch on.
The collecting tank 15 provides the make-up to compensate for any water losses and can be introduced into the system at any useful location.
As the water is forced to circulate in the system, the pipes 5 can be of small diameter, thus saving the volume of water to be delivered by the pump 11, and also facilitating a discreet arrangement of the pipes 9.
It will also be appreciated that the invention provides economy in
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
the consumption of electric current, since the heating does not continue when one or more radiators 4 are no longer working, only as long as a predetermined temperature of the liquid medium has not been exceeded.
In addition, in the case of a private dwelling or an office block, heating is carried out only in the precise places where it is necessary.
Although the ± immersion liquid heaters can be advantageously associated with the water heaters 4, it should be noted that, if desired, these liquid heaters can be placed in other places, in the piping 9. and not necessarily be integral with the water radiator 4, as shown in the drawings.
Likewise, although in the construction illustrated the fuses for the liquid heaters% are placed in the central control box 18, it is possible, if preferred, to place them near each immersion liquid heater 5,
A heating system according to the invention is easily installed and its operation can be made practically foolproof and automatic, so that a relatively inexperienced person can operate it with a minimum of care.
