Gaurain-Ramecroix.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

<Desc/Clms Page number 11>
<Desc/Clms Page number 12>
<Desc/Clms Page number 13>

Gaurain-Ramecroix. Device for preheating clay-limestone mixtures for the manufacture of cement by the dry process in a rotary kiln.
The present invention relates to the manufacture of cement by the dry process su rotary kiln.

maintain good thermal efficiency.
In practice, if one uses ovens of 50 to 60 mettes in length and one wants to obtain a good production, it is not possible to bring the fumes at the end of the oven to a temperature lower than 500. The oven temperature is below 500. The temperature generally observed in this case varies between 500 and 8000 and is established on average around 650.
The mass of the gases leaving the furnace at such a high temperature includes not only the gases resulting from the combustion of the coal blown into the furnace, but also all the C02 expelled from the material and which represents approximately 55% of the weight of clinker produced. This mass of gas carries with it to the chimney a very large quantity of heat.
To reduce loss by gez going to. the. In the course of the chimney, various arrangements have been adopted which, while achieving an improvement over the normal oven of medium length, do not, however, allow complete and economical recovery of the available heat.
In particular, the extension of the rotary kiln has been recommended.
We arrived in this way, at. to build increasingly long ovens, some of which reach a length of 130 meters. Apart from the fact that the abnormal lengthening of ovens is very expensive, the construction and maintenance expenses which they cause being proportionately higher than for normal ovens, this solution
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
This causes a significant loss of heat by radiation from the furnace casing to the surrounding environment.
In fact, the abnormal elongation of kilns is a bad solution, because if the rotary kiln is a tool that can be considered perfect for producing the clinkerization and decarbonation of clay-limestone materials, it is of poor performance. when it comes to heating the material from room temperature up to the temperature of 800. In fact, clinkerization and decarbonation require a high temperature, ranging from 1450 to 900, at which the gases act mainly by radiation and are very active. We know, in fact, that the heat transmitted by radiation is proportional to the power of the temperature at which the transmission takes place.
The high temperature reactions therefore take place quickly and the clinkerization and decarbonation zones with a furnace kept at a very hot rate, can. be relatively short.
It is not the same for the zone of preheating of the material, where the gases being colder are less energetic and transmit a large part of their heat by convection. The operation is therefore performed more slowly and the contact surfaces being limited, it is necessary to lengthen the furnace very considerably to obtain use. as full as possible of the available calories.
The recovery of lost heat for the production of Tapeur was also recommended.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
By this procedure, it is possible to lower the temperature of the flue gases at their entry to the chimney to around 150, Bias @@ for this it is necessary to carry out expensive installations, both for the production of steam. as for the transformation of value into driving force.
The gases leaving the furnaces at a temperature of 800 maximum, it is necessary to obtain a good recovery. install boilers with large heating surface. The surfaces are 4 to 5 times larger for the same production of steam than those allowed for normal boilers with direct heating by mechanical grate fireplace or stove. pulverized coal.
In addition, it is necessary that these boilers be well insulated to reduce heat loss and be provided with installations for the systematic removal of dust entrained by the fumes leaving the ovens.
In addition, to operate these installations, specialized personnel are required. for these reasons, the recovery of calories by steam production may be of interest to relatively large factories which may organize a special department for the. production of their driving force.
CI ';) process is not to be considered for factories of small importance - or for those which can buy the motive power in good conditions, either of a power station
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
well-equipped thermal electric, or a hydraulic power station.
It was also recommended to transform the raw powder into granules with the addition of 12 to 14% water, and to introduce it into a short rotary kiln, via a mechanical grid of a certain length, on which the granules in heaps are heated progressively while moving towards the rotary kiln, by means of the fumes leaving this kiln around 900.
If this process has certain interesting aspects, it has on the other hand the drawback of introducing into the material to be cooked a relatively high percentage of water which must be evaporated and heated up to the starting temperature of the fumes at the fireplace,
The object of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks and to provide a device which makes it possible to obtain better use of the heat entrained by the gases leaving the rotary kilns for manufacturing cement.
For this purpose, the device which is the subject of the invention is characterized in that it is constituted by a vertical front rail comprising inside vertical tubes for the clay-limestone mixture descending by gravity, while the gases of the rotary kiln circulate up the outside of the tubes to escape to the chimney.
In the practical embodiment of the invention, the vertical fore-oven rests on a base having

carbonate rapidly and significantly lowers the temperature of the flue gases; moreover, it considerably increases, by the contribution of all the released CO2, the volume of fumes which must be used to heat the vertical furnace,
3 clinkerization is a complex phenomenon which requires a high temperature to be complete, but which can start below 1.0000 and it is necessary to prevent concrete parts from interfering with the descent of the products in the tubes and their flow towards the furnace rotary.
The assembly produced by the vertical pre-heating furnace, followed by a short rotary furnace, gives excellent thermal efficiency, mainly if it is intended to achieve, by means of an appropriate cooler, a good recovery of the calories contained in the heaters. clinkers for heating the air necessary for combustion in the furnace: botatif.
A vertical furnace of this system can also be installed very advantageously at the end of existing furnaces of medium length, working according to the dry process and letting their fumes escape at temperatures varying between 500 and 8000.
In this case, the dimensions of the vertical furnace may be smaller and must be the subject of a special calculation for each case which arises,

If you wish to regulate in a methodical manner the regular supply of the tubes with raw flour at the bottom of the oven, it is sufficient to place larger tubes above the heating tubes at a rate of 1 by 4, 9 or 16. heating tubes, These tubes (not shown) can have a length of 1 M. to 1 M. 50 and a diameter sufficient to supply the 4 or 9 or 16 tubes which they surmount, Inside and following the axis of these large diameter tubes can be fitted with very short pitch distributor propellers.
All the propellers then have their axis extended to the upper floor from where. they are ordered in series, that is to say, for an oven containing 1,600 heating tubes in 40 rows of 40 tubes, if one installs a supply tube for 16 heating tubes, it will be necessary 100 feed tubes and there will appear on the upper floor 100 axle ends in 10 rows of 10 that can be ordered in series, either in series of 5 or in series of 10 by means of control movements variable speed,
Thanks to this device, in the case of dry cement manufacturing, it is possible to cook the finely ground mixture of raw materials, without adding any quantity of water,
under absolutely economical conditions with a thermal efficiency that has not been achieved so far by any cooking system,
This device makes it possible to lower the temperature of the fumes discharged to the chimney to a temperature varying between 100 and 150, while by carrying out the

baking completely in a rotary oven, with an oven double the length of that provided for the oven attached to the vertical oven, we manage to let the smoke escape to the chimney at a temperature varying between 500 and 800, i.e. on average 650.
To succeed with a rotary kiln working alone, in lowering the flue gas temperature to 150, it would be necessary to install a rotary kiln of abnormal length, costly to build and maintain and lose a lot of heat by radiation,
The device which is the subject of the invention therefore provides a great saving in fuel resulting mainly from:
a) that there is no water to evaporate, b) that the fumes are introduced into the chimney at a very low temperature, c) a great reduction in radiation losses of the sheets of the rotary kiln, the length of the latter being very reduced compared to that of the kilns operating on their own throughout the baking operation, which makes it possible to reduce the charcoal consumption by up to 10 to 12% of the production of clinkers whereas for ordinary rotary kilns it is often 24% and with the best but more complicated processes employed heretofore for heat recovery, it does not drop below 15%.

2 savings in installation costs, the cost of an installation as described being much lower than that of an installation with very long rotary kilns or with rotary kilns of medium length followed by boilers for recovering waste heat, '
3 a great saving in maintenance costs, @ because it only has a very short rotary kiln running on two crowns of rollers only, easier to operate and requiring proportionally much less maintenance costs than larger kilns long., and a vertical static oven comprising very few mechanical parts which causes little maintenance costs.
4 great regularity in the operation of the installation and in the production of clinkers, due to the short length of the rotary kiln and the large mass of raw materials being preheated in the vertical kiln. , the rotary kiln being very short and comprising little moving mechanical equipment; it is less prone to downtime caused by small accidents to the equipment; on the other hand; since it is fed with a product that is already very hot, it is easier to maintain the temperature necessary for perfect clinching in the cooking zone regularly,
5 less entrainment of dust by the fumes going to the chimney, the latter being in contact with the material only in the passage of the rotary kiln.
