BREVET D' INVENTION Pierre REICHARDT.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

DESCRIPTIVE MEMORY filed in support of a request for
PATENT OF INVENTION Pierre REICHARDT. "Socket wrench"
The present invention relates to a socket wrench for tightening nuts, comprising an arm provided with a ball joint engaged in the head of the socket so as to be able to be inserted into one or the other of the diametrically opposed notches. formed in this head.
In order to allow a greater clamping force to be exerted, according to the invention, provision is made to slide said arm in the ball joint so as to be able to be engaged simultaneously in two diametrically opposed notches, although it does not out of the ball joint only on one side during its change of orientation with respect to a diametral plane of the sleeve.
According to a complementary feature, the cross section of the channel for the passage of the arm in the ball joint is equal to the cross section of this arm. This feature makes it possible to reduce the size of the key
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
when not in use, since the arm can then be engaged in the socket.
Other features and details of the invention will become apparent from the description of the drawings appended hereto, which schematically represent, and by way of example only, two embodiments of a key according to the invention.
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a socket wrench according to the invention, in the position which the elements occupy during the normal tightening of a nut.
FIG. 2 is a diametrical section through the socket of the key according to FIG. 1 showing a possible position of the arm during the change of orientation of the latter.
Figure 3 is a diametrical section through the socket of the key according to Figure 1 ready to be stored.
FIG. 4 is a diametrical section through the key of the socket according to FIG. 1, for a position of the arm different from the normal clamping position.
FIG. 5 is a perspective view, after partial section, of another embodiment of a socket wrench according to the invention.
In these different figures, the same reference notations designate identical elements.
In Figure 1, there is shown a socket wrench for tightening nuts, such as those which are integral with spark plugs of internal combustion engines. This key comprises an arm 2 constituted by a rod of circular section, provided with a ball 3 engaged in the head 4 of a socket 5 whose end opposite the head has a hexagonal shape, The arm 2 can slide in the ball joint 3.
The part of this arm, 6, engaged in the ball joint during the tightening of a nut is located between two retracted parts.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
cies 7 and 8, the latter forming one of the ends of the arm, These two parts 7 and 8 can, as shown in Figure 1, penetrate into notches 9 formed in the head 4 and leaving teeth 10 between them.
These notches are diametrically opposed two by two.
Before exerting a tightening force, the narrowed end 8 can be engaged in one of the notches 9 while the constricted part 7 is engaged in the diametrically opposed notch. After a rotation of the sleeve 5, the end 8 of the notch in question is removed, so that the arm 2 then occupies a position such as that shown in FIG. 2, then the narrowed part 7 is brought into another notch. and, before exerting a new tightening force, the narrowed end 8 is reintroduced into the notch diametrically opposite to that considered last.
The cross section of the channel provided in the ball joint 3 for the passage of part 6 of the arm is equal to the cross section of this arm, so that when the key must be stored, its bulk can be reduced by bringing the arm 2 to inside the sleeve, as shown in figure 3. In this position, a protuberance 11, located at the end of the arm opposite to that located in the ball joint during the change of orientation, rests on teeth 10.
The part 6 sliding in the ball joint forms, with respect to the narrowed end 8, a projection abutting against the inside of the two teeth formed on either side of the notch 9 in which the part 8 is engaged. This projection therefore limits the driving stroke of the rod 2 in the ball when this rod has been brought into one of the notches 9. The travel in the opposite direction is limited, as can be seen more specifically-
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
ment in Figure 2, by a shoulder 12 with which part 6 of the aforesaid arm is provided. This epau-Lement consists of an attached part so as to allow the introduction of the arm into the ball joint. The channel of the ball joint in which this arm slides has a flare 13 for housing this shoulder during the change of orientation of the arm.
In Figures 3 and 4, it can be seen that the housing for the ball joint is such that xi the latter can be pushed slightly into the socket 5 parallel to the axis of the latter. Thanks to this feature, it is possible, as can be seen more specifically in FIG. 4, to engage the arm 2 at the bottom of any one of the notches 9 in a direction X making an obtuse angle with the axis of the sleeve Y. therefore use the key even in the event that the arm 2 cannot be rotated when it is in the plane perpendicular to the axis of the socket and this while this arm continues to rest at the bottom of the any of the notches 9.
In Figure 5, there is shown another embodiment in which the arm 2 ends at the end opposite to that which is engaged in the ball joint 3 when a nut is tightened, by a box 14 containing needles 15 and on which we screwed to close, a spark plug 16 for internal combustion engine. The needles contained in the box serve, in a manner known per se, to clean a fouled candle. With the key according to figure 5, when we have the key to remove a fouled spark plug, we have at the same time a device for cleaning this spark plug and continuously a clean spare spark plug if the boot cover 14 is made up of a spark plug clean.
It is obvious that the invention is not exclusive-
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
is limited to the embodiments shown and that many modifications can be made in the form, arrangement and constitution of some of the elements involved in their realization, provided that these modifications are not in contradiction with the object of each of the following claims.
CLAIMS 1., socket wrench for tightening nuts comprising an arm provided with a ball joint engaged in the head of the socket so as to be able to be inserted into one or the other of the diametrically opposed notches formed in this head , characterized in that said arm slides in the ball joint so as to be able to be engaged simultaneously in two diametrically opposed notches, although it only comes out of the ball joint on one side during its change of orientation with respect to a diametral plane of the sleeve.
