<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

The company known as: LE FOUR INDUSTRIEL BELGE, Société de
Persons with Limited Liability in Antwerp (Belgium). Drying oven, especially for wires, bars, etc., in bundles or bundles *
The present invention relates to an oven for drying various products, such as in particular wires, bars, casings or any profits, in bundles or in bundles.
Its aim is to provide a high-performance apparatus allowing to dry quickly and with a minimum expenditure of fuel, bundles of wires, bands or cables after operations such as stripping, rinsing, liming, etc. The wires, bands and cables are made of any material and may or may not be metallic, and the invention is particularly suitable for drying wires made of steel, copper, brass or light alloys. However, it is also applicable in the case of textile materials, in particular artificial textiles.
The dryers currently used are either rooms with natural or artificial ventilation, or continuous or discontinuous ovens in which the rollers or the bundles are brought to a more or less high temperature by having recourse to a natural or artificial air current.
All these devices are slow, because the air flow passes over wet surfaces with zero speed pu
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
with a relatively low speed, and, in practice, it is only the escape of the water vapor, by expansion under the action of the supplied heat which produces the drying. However, in the case of bundles or bundles of threads, the expansion of the water vapor coming from a given thread is thwarted by the proximity of neighboring threads.
Even in ovens equipped with forced air circulation, this licking speed is too low because the section of the passage of the air flow is too large or the air, seeking the section of passage of least resistance does not pass through the mass of the wires. A greater licking speed would require too much flow, which would lead to excessive expenditure of motive power.
However, the speed of licking is crucial because it is on this that depend, on the one hand, the transmission by convection over the heat, which is necessary for the evaporation of the water and, on the other hand, the rate of water evaporation. In fact, in still air, an adherent film of air saturated with humidity occurs on the wet surface, which prevents or delays the subsequent evaporation of new quantities of water.
It is therefore necessary to remove this sheath of saturated air as it forms and also to combat the tendency for the vapor particles to adhere by capillary action, which leads to the need for rapid air circulation. ambient which tears, tears off and entrains this vapor duct.
According to the invention, the oven chamber has a shape which corresponds to that of the products to be dried and it is constructed in such a way that the section of the air passage is that strictly necessary to house these products so that the air can receive a very high speed without requiring a large flow and is thus able to tear off the duct of air saturated with humidity as it forms around the wires, bars, etc.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
In practice, and in the case of boots or bundles of yarns, there is provided at the center of these bundles or bundles, means forming a screen making it possible to prevent the drying air from passing into the central area where there is no of products to dry and the. force it to thread between wires, bands, cables, etc. to dry.
The accompanying drawings show by way of example a furnace produced using the data of the invention.
Fig. 1 is an elevational view of the oven.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view through line II-II in fig 1.
Fig. 3 is a section through the line III-III in fig.2.
In the accompanying drawings, 1 denotes the chamber of the dryer which, according to the invention, has a shape which corresponds to that of the products to be dried. In the example shown, these products shown at 2 (fig. 2) are assumed to be in the form of annular bundles or rolls and the chamber 1 has a cylindrical shape, but it could be square or hexagonal if the products had such a form.
On the other hand, in order to give the air a very high speed without requiring a large flow rate, the passage of the air current between the chamber 1 and the products 2 has a section which is that strictly necessary to allow the housing. 'rolls or bundles of threads.
The air used for drying circulates in principle, following a closed circuit, in order to reduce the consumption of calories necessary for its heating and it is set in motion by a fan 4. After having a shoe shine in chamber 1 so as to tear, as explained above the duct of air saturated with humidity as it forms around the threads, the drying air passes through a flue 5 whose axis is parallel to that of the chamber 1 , then it is brought back by fan 4 to chamber 1 after being reheated by circulating around the corner chamber-

bustion 6 of a gas burner.
However, it is possible to use a fuel other than gas and heating could also be provided with the aid of an electric battery.
In FIG. 3, the arrows with one point therefore represent the closed circuit circulation of the drying air, while the arrow F with two points indicates a supply of a mixture of gas and reheating air in. the drying air circuit.
A certain quantity of fresh air can be introduced into the recirculating air circuit to maintain its water vapor content. at a determined optimum value.
This air can be introduced into the combustion chamber 6 as indicated at 61.
An exhaust is also provided at one point in the circuit to allow the air laden with steam and the burnt gases from the burner to escape.
Screening means are advantageously used reducing or canceling the passage of air in the part of the transverse sedtion of the chamber 1 where there are no products to be dried (for example in the central part of the annular bundles of threads). For this purpose, one can provide, for example at each of the ends of the chamber 1, a perforated plate 7 provided in its center with a solid part 8. One could also have recourse to a mandrel placed inside the package.
The apparatus is completed by a cover 9 provided with handles 10 and able to swing around a hinge 11. It is also provided with two rods 12 to each of which is attached a spring 13 fixed on the other hand to the frame 14.
The shape of the air circuit is designed in such a way as to avoid sudden changes of direction and to reduce the pressure drops and consequently the motive force required for the fan.
A thermostat regulates the burner in such a way that the optimum economical temperature of the recirculating air is not exceeded.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
The apparatus is heat insulated to prevent heat loss. The burner is usually fitted with safety devices in the event of an extinction, lack of gas or lack of electric current.
It should be noted that the room. drying could possibly, instead of being fixed, be replaced by a profiled carriage on which the bundles of threads would be placed.
The oven described could also be used with the same advantages to dry any bars, tubes or profiles, the chamber always having a section strictly proportional to the load treated.
It also finds its application, in the case of the drying of artificial textiles by providing during -T'avantage the tearing of the film, moisture / additional to increase the diffusion of internal moisture, towards the outer layer of the film. product.
