<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Adjustment pole for electric machines
Welding machines are, as we know, frequently provided with a graduated current scale to make the ammeter superfluous. These machines are indeed often exposed to a very brutal operation that the sensitive instrument would not support in a durable way. A current graduated scale is also provided, in particular machines for which the welding current is adjusted by means of a movable polar core which rises and falls in a pole collar in cup-shaped which produces a variation of the magnetic force flux and consequently of the current.
To the mechanism which produces the movement of the polar core is connected a needle which indicates on a scale the intensity of the current at each instant. Due to small deviations of the properties of matter and of the dimensions, the maohines are not always magnetically identical to each other, so that when
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
of the polar core does not always correspond to the same intensity of current. It is therefore necessary to adjust the machines individually with a view to adapting to the existing graduated current scale and this was done until now with the blade facing the adjustment blade, by displacement of a core that sits in the pot-shaped blade collar.
When matching with the graduated current scale, the core was immobilized in the corresponding position. This realization is relatively expensive. In addition, the pole facing the adjustment vane is difficult to access because it is located at the bottom of the machine.
The present invention avoids these drawbacks and consists essentially in that in the adjustment pole itself, relative to the pole sleeve which is the seat of the force flow, one or more parallel paths for the flow have been provided, which allow an adjustment of the machine and consequently the calibration of the graduated current scale.
Figs. 1 to 3 show as an exemplary embodiment an adjustment blade of a transverse field welding machine, in which the invention is applied. 3/4 denoted in the drawing by 1 the yoke, by 2 the pole piece, by 3 the pole sleeve which has a narrowed magnetic passage at 4. 5 is the movable polar core which can receive by means of a threaded rod 7 a translation in the direction of its axis. 6 is a wedge which prevents the polar core from rotating, 8 is a movable cover which can be connected to a handwheel or a lever and has a needle 9. 10 is the graduated current scale, 11 is a fixing screw which connects the cover key 8 to the threaded rod 7. 12 is a stop which
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
limits the rotation of needle 9 and therefore of cover 8.
During the rotation of the cover 8 and of the threaded rod 7 connected to it, there is a displacement of the polar core 5 and consequently a variation in the flow of magnetic forces and in the current intensity. The latter is indicated by needle 9 on the graduated scale 10.
According to the present invention, with respect to the magnetic path, which is made up of the pole sleeve 3 with the narrowed passage 4, and, depending on the position, more or less also by the movable polar core 5, a path has been arranged in parallel adjustable magnetic resistance; this path is formed, in the exemplary embodiment, by a spindle 20 which can be moved in the direction of its axis in the threaded rod 7. Part of the force flow therefore passes through the spindle 20. By the displacement from this one can strengthen or weaken the flow of forces in parallel and thus bring the current intensity in correspondence with the graduated scale 10.
After focusing, the spindle 20 is fixedly connected to the threaded rod 7, which in the exemplary embodiment is done by means of the screw 21. The spindle 20 then invariably maintains the position. in height given by the adjustment.
The cross section of the pin 20 is relatively small compared to the cross section of the pole body 5, but can be large compared to the cross section of the constricted passage 4. The influence exerted on the solder current by the pole. pin 20 is therefore for a high current intensity, that is to say for the lowest position of the polar core 5 (fig. 1), smaller than for a small intensity.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
ity of current, that is to say for the highest position of the polar core 5 (fig. 2).
This behavior is advantageous because when the pole core 5 is lifted, the pole socket 3 is highly saturated so that the difference between the current value indicated by the graduated scale and the actual current value can be larger in the region. small currents than in the region of large currents. By an appropriate choice of the cross section of the pin 20 it is possible to put in a determined ratio the value of the current variation in the region of large currents and in the region of small currents.
The calibration of the current scale can also be carried out with the polar core 5 and the pin 20 by the fact that in the region of large currents the adjustment of the current is carried out by means of the polar core 5 and in the region of small current by means of the spindle 20. After the calibration, the threaded rod 7 is fixedly connected to the cover 8 and to the needle 9 and the spindle 20 is fixedly connected to the threaded rod 7, by means of screws 11 and 21 respectively.
When the cover 8 is provided, instead of a sliding seat, with a nut thread for the threaded rod 7 and this is made sufficiently long, the threaded rod 7 itself can be used. as an adjustable parallel path of the lines of force. Coarse adjustment and fine adjustment are then possible without the use of an additional spindle 20.
