<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

"Internal combustion engine : @
The object of the present invention is an internal combustion engine, with fuel injection. This engine is characterized in that it has a combustion chamber formed by a recess formed in the piston and the opening of which is disposed eccentrically with respect to the axis of the piston and an inclined axis injector which delivers fuel in several jets in this combustion chamber, one of the fuel jets being directed along the axis of the injector t other jets being directed transversely to this axis.
The drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention,
Fig.l is a partial view in axial vertical section of this engine, and Fig.2 is a plan view of the piston of this engine.
The engine represents includes the -cylinder 1, the piston! and the cylinder head 3.4 designates a combustion chamber, formed by a recess formed in the upper part of the piston. This chamber has a form of revolution with an axis parallel to that of the piston and it is disposed eccentrically with respect to this axis of the piston. The inlet to the combustion chamber has a diameter smaller than the largest diameter of the chamber, the ratio between the diameter of the inlet and the largest diameter of the chamber being, in the example shown, 1: 1.5 . In the cylinder head 3 is disposed the injector, the axis of which is strongly inclined with respect to the axis of the cylinder.
The end of the injector is located outside the axis of the cylinder and it is also displaced laterally with respect to the axis of the combustion chamber 4. The nozzle of the injector is arranged so as to deliver several jets. of fuel in the combustion chamber, one of the jets being directed
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
the. extension of the axis of the injector, and several other jets being directed transversely to this axis. In this way, the injected fuel is uniformly distributed in the space limited by the wall of the combustion chamber. The sizes of the different injection holes can be chosen so that the doses of fuel supplied by each jet are equal, or so that these doses are unequal.
The centers of the intake and exhaust ports 6 and 7 are moved to the side of the cylinder head opposite to that on which the injector is mounted. The exhaust channel 8 is inclined in the opposite direction relative to the injector. The injector is thus located away from the hot walls of this channel. The subdivision of the injection into an axial jet and several transverse jets gives the possibility of distributing the fuel throughout the space of a combustion chamber of any shape while allowing to give the injector has a more inclined position than in the case of the known arrangements of this type of combustion engine.
This possibility of giving the injector a very inclined position allows, in these, for example, where the exhaust takes place through a channel formed in the cylinder head, to move it away more easily from the parts overheated by the exhaust than in the case of known provisions.
