<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
Les figs. 1 à 3 montrent schématiquement le rapprochement des extrémités de deux tubes et la formation du joint de soudure dans le cas d'un mode de mise en oeuvre de l'invention;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Method and device for the connection by welding of tubes.
The invention relates to a method and to a device for the connection or connection by welding of tubes, in particular of thick and very long kings. with a V-shaped or tulip weld, method and device according to which, by using a device serving to ensure the alignment and the retention of the tubes, they are first connected together without additional material in the root of the joint welding, after which the final weld is carried out.
The characteristic of the invention lies in the fact that the tubes fitted rigidly in a holding device and aligned coaxially are heated at their ends until the moment when the weld lips of the V-weld or of the tulip weld. are applied against each other by the thermal expansion of the tubes and are first connected by pressure welding, without having flown therein the molten material of which the tubes are made, after which the V-joint is finished being welded, in a known manner, forming a welded track.
The method according to the invention ensures a particularly simple and improved realization of welds by approach of great value and opposes the introduction of weld tracks @

inside the tube. In addition, a higher strength of the solder joint is obtained.
An advantageous implementation of the method resides in the fact that, according to the invention, the application pressure of the tubes is increased during the heating of the weld lips of the tulip joint, so that a repression of the lips liable to collapse as a result of their heating and that, in this state, the welding is carried out by pressure on the roots. This method offers the following advantage, namely that the welding of the roots can be ensured without a notch remaining in the inner tubular wall. It is particularly advantageous that during pressure welding the application pressure between the lips is further increased permanently. In the case of this process, a distance between the ::; At first glance, removing the weld is not expected.
In this case, the shoulder of the primed tulip joint is advantageously kept so weak that the transformation takes place when the tubes are pressed against each other.
According to a preferred embodiment of this method, the elements: of tubes are, before the beginning and during the welding, so strongly applied against each other that the roots of the weld applied against each other by their frontal ribs constitute, by repression, a bead projecting inside the tubes.
In the particular case of tubes of large diameters, the welding is preferably carried out in such a way that before the welding operation, the weld roots applied against one another are bent, by hammers , towards the inside of the tubes, in which case it is advantageous for an expansion ring gripping the joint of the tubes from below and having a groove formed around its periphery, with a flat trough-shaped cross section , serves as a counter-bearing In this case, the root of the weld can be heated.
During finishing and welding, the connection of the ends of the tubes by the pressure and hold device is removed. So that no additional tension can occur @

resulting in ruptures of the hooping, the place of the subduration, both inside the tubes and on the outer periphery of the latter, is, in this way, so reinforced that its resistance is greater than that of the clean wall of the tubes. In the case of messy edges of the joints of the ends of the tubes, which are the rule in practice, the process makes it possible to obtain a continuous and perfect weld joint.
For carrying out pressure and upsetting welding, a device is used in accordance with the invention which consists of two collars which interlock, in the center, the ends of the tubes, which are movable one by one. in relation to each other, in the direction of the axis of the tubes, on a guide member and which have traction anchors, by which the pressure on one another of the ends of the tubes is determined.
One of the collars is advantageously connected, by ribs, rigidly and without being able to move, to a torsionally rigid hollow apron and the other collar is guided, with a pad rigidly fixed to it by fins. on the free end of the hollow apron, while screws serving as traction anchors fit in the places where the two halves of the clamps *
An embodiment of the invention is shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figs. 1 to 3 schematically show the bringing together of the ends of two tubes and the formation of the weld joint in the case of an embodiment of the invention;
Figs. 4 to 6 show a device established in accordance with the invention for carrying out the welding of the ends of tubes with a tulip joint,
Fig. 4 being a side view of the device with the ends of the tubes shown partially in section,
Fig. 5 being a standing view of the device without the tubes,
Fig. 6 being a view, on a larger scale, of the profiled tube joint in fig.4.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
Following the process represented in figs. 1 to 3, whose fig.l is a longitudinal section made through a joint of tubes before welding. the thickness. !! of the wall of the tubes is shown in fig.l greatly enlarged compared to the diameter d of the tubes, to make the drawing more understandable. The two ends of the tubes 1 and 2 can, by holding devices not shown in FIGS. 1 to 3, first be maintained in such a way that between the bevelled V-shaped ends of the tubes, - ends which form an angle of 60 for example, a small distance a remains, which is reduced to zero when from heating to soldering temperature.
Fig. 2 shows this condition of the ends of the tubes, for which the weld lips are connected by a pressure weld without having melted therein of the material of which the tubes are made, but the process can also be implemented from in such a way that, at first glance, no gap is left between the welding lips, and in addition the application pressure of the tubes is increased during the heating of the welding lips, for example is increased in such a way permed.
After the welding of the root has been made, the application pressure is removed and the V-joint is finished being welded in the usual way, by making the material indicated at 3 in fig. 3 flow in molten it,
For the implementation of the aforementioned method under the conditions shown in FIGS. 4 to 6, a collar 6 is fixed, rigidly and without being able to move, on the hollow apron 5 reinforced by ribs 4 located inside, while the other collar 7 is capable of moving, with its pad 8, on the apron 5.
After insertion of the ends of tubes 1 and 2, they are precisely aligned co-axially by tightening screws 9 and 10 and are rigidly immobilized. The tension screws 11 shown in fig. 4 make it possible to increase the application pressure of the tubes, during the heating of the lips to the welding temperature and also to increase this pressure in a permanent manner. during the welding process. The weld lips or roots 14 are, thanks to this arrangement, so strongly applied.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
quées one against the other that they constitute, as shown in fig.6, under the effect of a simultaneous discharge, a bead projecting inside the tubes.
The lips or weld roots 14 applied with a certain pressure against each other can also be bent, by hammers, towards the inside of the tubes.
A copper ring 12 made of several parts and applied against the inner wall of the tubes has, on its periphery, a circular groove 13 having a flattened trough-shaped cross section and serving as a counter-bearing for the curved weld roots 14 inwards by pressure or hammer. The ring 12, which is preferably machined from copper, has, at the same time, the role of limiting heating of the place where the welding is carried out. Thanks to this ring also, during cooling of the weld joint, rubbing stresses are avoided, which could lead to breakage.
