<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>

BOHDAN C E R V I N X A, Engineer Xenie Cervinka- Gradova Residing in Brussels, Belgium Vladimir Cervinka, sales engineer Residing in Kabul, Afghanistan, Clutch coupled with freewheel for automobiles etc.
The object of the invention is the clutch for vehicles of all kinds coupled with the device for freewheeling.
Numerous clutch systems and freewheel devices are currently known in use.
It is also known that the freewheel in the systems in use has major defects which has led to the gradual elimination of its use, despite the fact that the freewheel in principle is advantageous since it simplifies the handling of gear change. and also enables considerable fuel savings to be made en route.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The faults of existing systems are that the current freewheel devices are either of too complicated construction, or because they are not automatic and are controlled by a special lever *
During a descent for example on a steep slope when the safety of driving does not allow to keep the engine disengaged the driver of a current model automobile is required to eliminate the freewheel (by a lever) it is to say to engage the motor so that it is possible to brake by the motor.
Practice shows that it is not given to every driver to do this in good time and in a safe manner and we know the cases when the automobile acquired by inertia such a speed that it was no longer. possible to eliminate the freewheel (ie to engage the motor) and in case the malfunction of the brakes prevented reducing speed in time, the descent ended in a disaster.
The freewheel device provided by this invention does not have any faults specific to existing systems and for this reason can be used with absolute safety, especially for cars in current use and for this reason the freewheel device. provided by the invention can be used on a very large scale.
The clutch with the freewheel device provided by the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing.
The object of the invention consists of a combination of the clutch of any system with the freewheel followed also by a system of any kind, especially distinguished by the fact that the clutch is engaged or released automatically by action of the device. freewheel or at will using the pedal.
The drawing shows a dry clutch combination of a most widespread model with a single disc controlled according to the invention automatically by the freewheel device of a special model.
The flywheel 2 set in motion as usual by any motive force (for example by an automobile engine) has inside a usual disc 3.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
running dry and which is fixed on the sleeve 4 placed on the axis 1 on which this sleeve 4 can move in the axial direction along the grooves 21 while rotating with the axis I.
The disc 3 can be clamped using levers 6 between the wall of the flywheel 2 and the clamping disc 7 so that if the disc 3 is clamped the rotation of the motor is transmitted by friction from the flywheel 2 to the axis I which leads to the gearbox (not shown in the drawing) and further to the wheels of the automobile.
The particularity of the clutch proposed by the present invention consists in that the disc 3 in its normal portion is not clamped by the disc 79 but on the contrary, a weak spring 5 permanently pushes the levers 6 back. so that disk 3 remains free.
The tightening of the disc 3, that is to say the clutch of the engine can be operated according to this invention in two ways, firstly by means of the pedal 13 which, under the pressure of the foot, transmits this action by the lever 12 and the bearing. ball 17 on the special sleeve 9, the latter thanks to the grooves 21 rotates with the axis 1 while retaining the faculty of an axial movement the sleeve 9 transmits its pressure using the second ball bearing on the levers 6 and in this way clamps the disc 3.
Secondly! the disc 3 can be clamped automatically by action of the lever 8 turning with the handwheel 2 which engages in the groove 15 on the sleeve 11, placed in turn on the sleeve 9 and assembled with the latter using a friction device.
As can be seen from the attached drawing, in all cases where the flywheel 2 turns faster than the axis 1 and if the galekt 18 is mounted along the groove 15 of the sleeve 11 the lever 9 causes the sleeve 9 to be move along the axis and to the left (according to the drawing) exerting in this way the variable pressure, for example increasing, on the levers 6 and tightening the disc 3.
On the contrary, as soon as the rotation: relative in the opposite direction of the flywheel 2 and of the axis 1 will occur, i.e. the flywheel 2 will turn more slowly than the axis 1 (and consequently the sleeves
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
9 - 11) the roller 18 will descend from the groove 15, the spring 5 will release the levers 6 of the disc 7 and of the disc 3 which will cause the motor to disengage and which means that the freewheel comes into action.
The sleeve 9 comes into contact with the levers 8 by means of the sleeve 11 assembled with this sleeve 9 by friction. This friction between the sleeves 11 and 9 is effective at relative rotation in one direction while the relative rotation in the opposite direction makes this friction almost non-existent.
As can be seen from the attached drawing, the sleeve 11 pushed to the right (according to the drawing) by the spring 22 is supported by its bush 20 (in anti-friction material or a ball bearing) against the movable stop 23 which can be placed either in position 'A or in position B.
If the stop 23 is in position A, the roller 18 can move up the groove 15 and the device 8; 9; 11; 15 comes into operation (as described above).
If the. stop 23 is moved to occupy position B, the roller 18 is located in the cavity 24 of the groove 15, and is to say in position B, and the friction pad 16 fixed for example to the sleeve 9 already no longer touches the sleeve 11 which is moved by the spring 22 to the right (according to the drawing).
If in this position of the roller 18 (i.e. parts of the engine) the latter tends to turn faster than the sleeve 9 (which occurs in the event of an increase in gas) or slower than this same sleeve 9 (which occurs in the event of a decrease in gas) the roller 18, given the absence of considerable friction between the sleeves 11 and 9, carries with it the sleeve 11 which will slide on the sleeve 9 without moving this last in the axial direction, that is to say without tightening the disc 3, given that these movements described previously take place only in the case where the roller 18 @ mounts the groove 15.
In this way, the displacement of the stop 23 in position B means the cancellation of the freewheel.
This stop 23 can be assembled, in accordance with the invention
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
with the gear lever (not shown in the drawing) so that putting it in the reverse gear position automatically moves the stop 23 to position B, because the freewheel is not needed in case of reverse gear.
The device 8,9,11,16 and in principle the device intended to automatically tighten or loosen the disc 3.
The force of this clamping of the disc 3 is variable and in certain cases increasing dangerously. To limit the growth of this clamping force, one can easily arrange the limited elasticity of the rollers 18 or even of the levers 8.
If we arrange at the same time the growth of inclination of the groove 15, at the end the roller 18 goes up to the end of the groove 15 while maintaining the axial pressure, the sleeve 11 slips a little on the sleeve 9 and then the coupling of the disc 3 will occur quite smoothly, without any shock even in the case of large car *
The advantages of the freewheel clutch described above as well as its operation are presented in a clearest way if we examine in detail the maneuvers of starting, braking etc ...
In describing these manipulations we represent that the axis 1 is assembled with a simple gearbox for 3 speeds controlled by a usual lever and that the number of pedals is conventional, that is to say 3 usual pedals namely an accelerator, a brake pedal and a clutch pedal 13.
For the initial position, we take an automobile at rest, the gearshift lever of which is in the neutral position and the stop 23 is in position A.
, Start-up begins with starting the engine.
When the engine is started (usual process) only the flywheel 2 begins to turn since the disc 3 is not tight, which is why at the first movement the axis 1 will not turn.
As soon as the lever 8 engages in the groove 15, the sleeves 9 - 11, move to the left (according to the drawing) and tighten the disc 3 and following this movement the axis 1 begins to
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
turn with steering wheel 2. However, the automobile will remain at rest since the gear lever is kept in neutral position.
The actual start-up is carried out as follows, the driver reduces the gas and at the same time puts the first gear without pressing the pedal 13, after which he immediately increases the gas.
Since for a while the gas was reduced, the compression of the disc 3 is weakened a little, because the lever 8 has disengaged from the groove 15.
As soon as, after putting into first gear but without any manipulation of the clutch pedal 13, the gas is increased, the lever 8 will engage again with force in the groove 15 the disc 3 will be tight and the The automobile will start in first gear.
In order to change to the next gear, it suffices once again to reduce the gas and put the lever directly into second gear without having to use pedal 13.
In this case also the reduction of the gas will release the lever 8 from the groove 15, since the speed of the flywheel 2 will be lower than that of the axis 1, which will release the disc 3, then passing the lever to the second speed and by increasing the gas the automatic clamping of the disc 3 is again caused.
The change from second gear to third gear takes place in an identical conventional way, that is to say without having to resort, as is the practice in cars currently in use, to pedal 13.
By comparing the operations described, necessary for starting a car of the current type with those of a car fitted with the device which is the subject of the present invention, we can conclude that the car of a conventional existing type requires (after the starting the engine) 9 operations (disengagement, first gear, clutch and so on up to third gear) while the car fitted with the device provided for by the invention requires only three operations and in this way the application of the invention reduces handling
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
speed change from 100 to 33% thus achieving the gain of 66%.
This reduction in operations does not exhaust all the advantages of the invention.
By using the clutch system provided by the invention, the driver can bring the gas back to "idle" either to safely take advantage of each descent that occurs on the road, or for a momentary stop (obstacles, crossing streets, etc. .) using in this way the force of the vehicle's inertia and saving fuel.
This way of driving the car using the device provided for by the invention does not constitute any danger even on a steepest slope because even if the brakes suddenly refuse to work, the driver could at any time and at any time which speed place the lever not only on second or first gear but even on reverse gear since disc 3 is not tight when the gas is at idle (axis I turns faster than flywheel 2 and the small ones levers 6 are repo @ ssed by spring 5).
As soon as one of these gear lever position change operations is performed, the driver presses the pedal 13 and the disk 3 is clamped, that is to say the axis I engages the engine.
In the event that the lever is put in first gear, the engine only slows down the movement, while this same lever placed in reverse gear even on a slope causes the vehicle to come to a complete stop and even if it is necessary the immediate reverse *.
In this way, driving safety for a car provided with the object of this invention. in the event of a descent is not reduced (as is the case with current cars) but on the contrary it is increased firstly because the braking by the engine in any case is absolutely assured and secondly 'seen that the clutch provided for by the invention makes it possible to use in exceptional cases even reverse gear which brakes harder than first gear, and stops the car without using the brakes
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
For normal stopping, it suffices to apply the brake and return the gear lever to its neutral position.
This last operation can be carried out after the car has come to a complete stop without danger of choking the engine.
The accompanying drawing represents the object of the invention as one of the many possible variations of its technical realization and therefore the protection of this invention exercised by this patent is not limited only by this example of its application.
Summary.
I. The object of the invention is the coupling of the clutch of any system for motor vehicles or others with a device commonly called freewheel also of any system distinguishes because the clutch (1,2,3,4,5,6,7 see drawing) is engaged or disengaged automatically by the action of the freewheel device (8,9,11,15,16,17,18,19, 20) on this clutch (I to 7).
2. The coupling of the clutch with the freewheel according to p.1 is distinguished because the freewheel device (8.9,11,15,16,17,18,19,20) automatically engages the clutch ( 1-7) when the engine components (2,8) in their rotation catch up (turn faster) the drivable components (1,3,9,11) or on the contrary release the clutch (1-7) when the components of the motcuL (2,8) are behind (turn more slowly) compared to the organs to be trained (1,3,9,11).
3. The coupling of the clutch with the freewheel according to p.I. and 2 is distinguished because the clutch mechanism is in the form of an ordinary 3 disc clutch, running dry, combined with the sleeve (9,11) rotating with the axis 1 (entrafnable) having the ability to axial displacement on this same axis I, the displacement resulting in the tightening or releasing of the disc 3 of the clutch.
