<EMI ID=2.1>

STRAIGHT-LINE MOVEMENT TRANSFORMATION DEVICE
ALTERNATIVE IN DISCONTINUOUS ROTARY MOVEMENT.
The present invention relates to a device making it possible to transform a reciprocating rectilinear movement into a
discontinuous rotary movement.
According to the invention, this device comprises a body provided with projections offset with respect to one another in
different planes and a second body presenting at its ends
ramps of appropriate profile, the two bodies being arranged one
in relation to the other in such a way that one of the two being
subjected to an alternating rectilinear movement, the reciprocal contact of the projections and the corresponding ramps gives it a
discontinuous rotational movement, the amplitude of which depends on the profile of the latter.
This device can accommodate many applications
in industrial practice, but it finds an application
very advantageous in the electro-technical industry as an electromagnetic remote control switch. For example, the body carrying the projections will be used as a contact lever on a high voltage network.
tension, while the body provided with ramps will be part of a
inductive coil excited by a weak current.
The drawing appended to this specification gives by way of example only one embodiment of a remote control switch according to the invention.
Fig.I is an elevational view of the device, and <EMI ID = 1.1>
The device essentially comprises a tube I forming the central part of a coil 2, with low excitation. At each of its ends the tube I is cut out in the form of ramps 3a, 3b, the profile, pitch and number of which are calculated. in advance according to the desired rotation amplitude.
Inside the tube I can slide a rod 4, the lower part of which is made of magnetic metal and the upper part of a non-magnetic material; it has projections 5 and 6, formed by pins, cylindrical pins or the like. These projections are spaced from one another by a determined height and are offset with respect to one another.
Under the rod 4, forming a contact lever, are arranged two electrical contacts 7 and 8, one of which 7 is carried by a rigid blade 9, while the other 8 is urged to move away.
the first by the leaf spring 10.
It is easily understood that the pins 5 and 6 occupying the position shown in Fig.I, if the coil 2 is energized, the contact lever 4 is raised inside the tube I, the electrical contacts 7 and 8 therefore separate under the action of the spring 10, but the lower pin 5 coming into contact
<EMI ID = 2.1>
its axis at an angle which, in this case, will be 45 , until it comes to occupy the bottom of the ramp. But at the same time the upper pin 6 has left the bottom of the ramp 3b and overcomes tube I, when lever 4 has finished its upward stroke.
At this moment the current being cut in the coil 2,1e lever goes down again and its upper pin 6 in turn comes into contact with a ramp 3b, which pushes it back and thus forces the lever. contact to perform a new rotation of 45 [deg.]. Pins 5 and 6 have then finally resumed their original position in height, while the contact lever has made a rotation of 90 [deg.], which brings it back on the contact 8 which it presses against contact 7 thus closing the current in the high voltage circuit.
As a result each time the coil 2 is energized, the contact lever 4 alternately causes a break and a closing of the circuit to be controlled.
As has been said, the general arrangement of the transformation device will vary according to the envisaged application, and the profile, the number and the pitch of the two groups of ramps 3a, 3b will determine the amplitude of the rotation of the control member. It should in fact be noted that in certain cases it may be useful to make the body carrying the projections fixed, while the body provided with the contact ramps will perform the desired discontinuous rotational movement.
